I've just started doing Cathe's workouts from TV, but I would like to own all of her DVD's (eventually). Which ones would you suggest I buy first? If it wasn't Christmas I would probably buy them all, but I guess I should save some money for gifts...right???:)

Welcome. You can start with the body blast and the ctx series. In the BB you have all step cardio with SB/ step, hi/low and weights with SJP, a great kickboxing workout KPC, a workout for the lower body legs and glutes and two workouts of endurance PP/SS. With the ctx you have six workouts: 30 minutes of cardio and weight training. One day you do the cardio and biceps, the next cardio and biceps etc. I recommend to you the dvd. The BBS is full of premixes and in the ctx dvd you will find an awesome upper body split and a great abs split. My favorites cardio workouts in the ctx are kickbox, power circuit and 10,10,10 but all deserve the money. Welcome.

I agree with Stayfit's picks to get you started. However, if you are already into strength training, you might want to get The Pyramids (from the Intensity Series) and Slow & Heavy. These DVDs will provide you with more thorough strength oriented workouts (compared to the endurance workouts in Body Blast and CTX).

i made the mistake of getting the intensities (pyramids) first.. and have been disappointed with most of the other workouts in body blast/pure strength, etc..

so definitly start with cathe's "easier" workouts and work up!

the best thing is go look at the list http://69.0.137.118/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=3&topic_id=35826&mesg_id=35826&page=
and start buying the easier workouts (if you want to start at the very beginning.. start with body fusion.. otherwise get body blast first, then CTX, then the intensities) if you plan to get pure strength.. i would recommend getting it before the intensities too.. as it's a much easier workout than pyramids and any of the other legs... i was sooooooooooooo disappointed the first time i did PS.. .i did both upper body workouts one day and was like "is that it????"

i realized too late i bought my cathe's all in the wrong order :-(

As a Cathe "newbie" myself, I've found that Step Blast and Rhythmic Step without the step have been great cardio workouts to start with. Body Fusion has also been good to start with...not too simple, not too hard. Do with a step or without.

I actually like the Pyramids for beginning weight work...but I use dumbbells instead of a barbell, and have started out keeping the weight light. I also do the modified lower body work instead of using the stability ball. I still get a killer workout. I also REALLY like Lower Body Sculpt off the Body Fusion DVD.

I'm getting ready to start the Slow and Heavy upper body series, and will be using light weights to start out. I also just started doing Power Hour abs. That's great, although I don't do the planks.

I think that these are great routines to give a beginner a well-rounded workout rotation as long as you don't use heavy weights or a high step.

Good luck!

All of Cathe's workouts have a place in my rotations, advanced or not. Even though I now consider myself an advanced exerciser, I sometimes (like NOW) need some easier/lighter/shorter...whatever...but still good (read: CATHE) workouts.;-)

If I have been ill, such as now, there's no way I can go all out. If I get up late or for some other reason am running out of time, then I need a shorter option. If I am battling a migraine, all bets are off! LOL That's when I reach for Basic Step!

Ruth:) :)
