which beachbody program?

I have read over and over about the BB site and p90 system. They don't offer any video clips so I can't see what type of workout they are. Anyone out there care to give me some guidance about which to purchase? Your favorites and why? Do you like slim in six? Thanks in advance. My goals and stats are;

advanced program
light weights [don't need more muscle or would be too stocky]
loose weight [cardio]
easy choreography
lengthen muscles for leaner look

I thought maybe these might compliment my Cathe' tapes.

Power 90 and Slim in Six are more beginner/intermediate programs.

Some programs that might suit you:
P90X (the one that many of us rave about). Good for upper body and core strength especially. A complete rotation. Not so much for lOsing weight, though.

Slim Series. The advanced version of Slim in Six. High rep, light weight workouts, focusing on lower body and a Freestyle-like approach, working lower body most days of the week. These are long workouts (57 to 78 minutes) and are very similar. They are intended to burn calories and firm muscles without adding size. This might be a good place to start, since your goal is to lOse weight. If you can stand the long, similar workouts, that is. I personally find them somewhat comforting: no complex choreo, I can play my own music (there is a 'music off' option), and they do produce results, especially for lower body (but using the rotations they suggest is too much on the upper body joints IMO).

P90 Masters is a step between Power 90 and P90X, and has shorter workouts good as add-ons. There is more cardio/plyo work in this than in P90X, and it's kind of like a P90X-lite in some ways. I enjoy the cardio workouts and the sculpting workout.

In all these programs, whatever choreography there is is very simple.

FYI: There is no way you can physically 'lengthen' a muscle, despite advertising hype to the contrary.

Hi Kathryn,
Thanks for the info. Can you tell me if the slim series workout is similar to the Firm? Trying to get an idea of what to expect.

I agree that P90X and Slim Series would be the best options. I just recently started some of the P90X workouts (haven't started a rotation yet) and I now see what all the fuss was about. These are fantastic workouts. I've also had the Slim Series workouts for a year or two and I love the results of that program. It's fantastic as well. Either way you go they're both great programs.:)

I starting the Slim in 6 last year while mainly doing the Firm. I was wanting to add variety (didn't know about Cathe yet). I was BORED TO TEARS with it!!! It's very repetitive and boring. I never got to the "advanced" tape, I could only handle the beginner's tape because of the length of time. Also for some reason Debbie Sieber's voice grates on my nerves. Just my opinion.

P90X didn't click with me but I had great results with the Slim Series (not to be confused with Slim in Six). They can be boring but using your own music helps.

I wouldn't classify them as cardio workouts but rather toning workouts more along the lines of Jari Love...

The results on p90x are AMAZING! It's pure genius. I highly recommend following the full rotation (it has taught me what a rotation really should be). It is TOUGH!

I'm not sure if I'd recommend it for weight loss. It's great for toning, and building definition. Most folks loose inches. I guess it depends how much weight loss you are looking for.

A lot of catheites are doing the X and raving about it.

It is DEFINETELY NOT light weights. Most of us do the 8-10 with heavy weights.

I recommend you check out beachbody.com There is a wealth of information over there and wonderful supportive people!

Let us know what you decide.

The cheorography is easy. Even though I've done cathe for years i've never liked step. Imax is great but I just don't like the dancy cheoragraphy.

TJ is fun. Funny most people say it's easy but I do it once a week. I love the dancy stuff (as long as it's not step!)

I hated Slim In 6! I dreaded doing this workout every time because it was so boring! And the girl couldn't count. We'd do 12 reps on one side, then do 18 on the other...and when she'd say she was going to do a "couple more reps", it turned into ten! It was awful, unmotivating, and no fun AT ALL!

Obviously, it didn't take long and Slim in 6 found a permanent home on the back of a shelf somewhere. Don't miss it at all! If one of my Cathe's went missing, on the other hand, I'd tear the place up trying to find it!
