Where to begin again?

I am a returning Cathe fan. I used to workout to her shows on FitTV, plus video tapes years ago, and I had been doing video/TV at-home workouts for years starting with Jane Fonda's first video! I was also a dance minor in college (first time around), so became immediately enthralled with Cathe's workouts! Love, love her! Anyway, I've been away from the scene for a few years except for sporadically doing some zumba and barre with other instructors. I am eager to get back to working out with Cathe, which is why I signed up for Cathe.com, but where is a good place to start? It's been a few years since I've done step. Are there any videos in particular that would be a good jumping off point these days, or just pick one and jump in?

10 years (ugh) and 30 pounds (double ugh) ago I was an avid Cathe user. There was no DVD I couldn't do. Fast forward to the mid 40s and weight gain and I just got back on the bandwagon about 6 weeks ago. You may not be as far gone as me, but I found I had to go all the way back to the beginning with Basic Step and Body Fusion. I pretty much followed the Cathe beginner rotation found on the forum. I was able to build up to Cardio and Weights and some of the high step training workouts. Another good one was the step routines in 4 Day Split, minus some of the higher impact moves.

I hope that helps a little.

I like Athletic Step, Afterburn, Athletic Training, Slide 'n Glide, and Low Impact HiiT would be my recommendations. Those are the newer ones I can think of that are pretty enjoyable for myself. I like the Low Impact Series a lot, personally. Even as a newbie to Cathe, and at about an intermediate level of fitness, I could manage all of these fairly well (with some modifications on occasion).

I still love the "older" stuff, too, though. Like the little black dress, they never go out of style to me. :) Kick, Punch and Crunch; Cardio and Weights, Push/Pull; Legs and Glutes; the Pure Strength series- all are great when getting back into fitness after a break, or if at more of an intermediate level for a bit. Well, most of these are more in the weight-training category of stuff, but still...some have at least a bit of a cardio benefit.

Yea! Welcome back! Do you have the Cross Train Series? I have started back with that series after an injury break and it's good. You get a little of everything and can use as heavy a weight as you want for the weight part. It's got abs on a few of the discs and is just a real well rounded routine.

Lauren J,

Great to hear you are "eager to get back to working out with Cathe." I believe just being here and asking for ideas is a great beginning. Second, start doing - a workout - that is.

I've done it both ways, where I jumped in and did Cathe's workouts based on what I liked. And then again, I did a beginner rotation and worked my way up to the next level. Cathe has a diverse collection of DVDs that will certainly keep you coming back for more! Also,Cathletes have recommended some great DVDs. Go for it!

And keep us posted on your progress!

"Crosstrain Express" is the Deal of the day today! I think that's a good recommendation. I also like "Low impact circuit". It's labeled Intermediate/advanced. It has cardio, cardio blast, upper and lower body, circuit style. It's about 1 hour 15 min BUT you can do as much or as little as you want, skip the blast or upper body or lower body etc. So glad to have you back!!!!

Hi Lauren,
If you're looking for a step routine with a bit of a choreography challenge you may want to try the Party Rockin Step 2 DVD. Step Moves and Athletic Step are also good "re-introductions" to my step workouts. Happy stepping! ;)
