Where can I find that barbell set?

Hi, I'm just getting started with Cathe and was wondering where to find the barbell set she uses? I've found the stepper but can not find a barbell set like that anywhere. The closest thing I've found is a 100lb set at Walmart that just doesn't look well made and the local sports store only has the larger and heavier bars.

Good for you. You'll love it.
I need to order me about 4 10#plates. Off to do that now.

If you haven't ordered already, just a tidbit of information that might be helpful. Target has Reebok plates that have rubber edges on them, if you like the Troy weights because of the rubber casing. I got the Reebok ones on sale and it saved shipping. I had only purchased the 40# set of the TroyLite and the Reebok ones are how I added to the set.

Hello,
this is probably a silly question, but which bar do you get? Which weight bar do you pick, I know it must vary based on your ability, but what is a standard for Cathe workouts?
Thanks,
Lisa

Follow the above link to Fitness First and scroll down that page until you find this blurb:

Troy Lite™ Workout System with Quiet Iron ™ Plates
The Troy Lite Workout System features the black oxide painted “lite” bar which has a maximum capacity of 80 lbs. yet weighs only 5 lbs. The 54” length bar makes it ideal for use in group exercises. The compact Troy Quiet Iron™ rubber enclosed weights help prevent damage to the floor and equipment and take up little space. The spring collars safely hold the rubber plates on the bar but allow for quick changing of the plates.

I like this Troy Lite shorter barbell for Cathe's full body workouts.

Wal-Mart carries the 55 and 100 lb USWeights sets that use the 5' bar and plastic covered plates. The price is reasonable and the bar (1" diameter) works with most weight plates.
Until recently, I have used an Ivanko 48" 10lb bar with 1" diameter bar ends.

I have acquired my weight plates by purchasing plate sets on clearance at Target (usually York).

That's great! You're very welcome. One thing I like about the Reebok plates is that they have "holes" in them that make them easy to pick up. Glad I could help.

You can add weight to this bar? I only have dumbbells at this point and was looking for a barbell to use with Cathe's Pyramid workout. I didn't realize you had to have a barbell until the dvd arrived and I watched it.

Don't confuse the Aerobic Weighted Bar with a regular barbell which is shown further down the page. The Troy Lite bar is five pounds and can hold 80 pounds of plate weight. They sell a 40-pound set for $69. You can't add any weights to the Aerobic Weighted Bars, they are a specific weight and you just lift that. But geez, it would take a whole bunch of those sticks to make it work for me.

This is so helpful; I'm glad I found this thread. I've wondered where to get the bar Cathe uses in the video. Mine has threaded collars, so it's really annoying when I need to change plates during a routine-- especially when I'm doing PUB or PLB.

Can anyone tell me if this bar is the standard 1" size width, or the larger 2" Olympic size? I'm hoping I'll still be able to use my standard 1" plates with it, in case I want to increase weight beyond the 40# potential in the set. Thanks!

I have the Troy-Lite system shown on Fitness First and it is a 1 inch standard bar with smooth ends, so if you get the set it will come with two spring collars. Standard plates have one inch holes, so any standard plate will work with it. I like the rubber encased Troy weights because the sleeve portion doesn't have any encasing and it slides really well on the bar. The plate hole is perfect for the bar, they aren't wobbly loose either and tighten down with the spring collars nicely. I have some other rubber encased weights by Excel, but the hole is also coated so it makes sliding the weight off harder. I would call them for specific shipping because mine was less then what popped up in the cart.

I found my set at Dick's Sporting Goods Shop. It was 25$ the bar is 4 lbs. and it came w/ 2-20 lb plates, 4-10 lb plates and 4-5 lb plates. It has the squeeze handles(?) like Cathe uses. I've had it for 3 years and am very pleased w/ it. It is very good quality. Hope this hepls. Kay
