What's your Turkey Day specialty?

I'm getting ready to do some grocery shopping for the big T-Day and I was wondering...what does everyone make that is their "specialty" for Thanksgiving? Something you only make this time of year, or something nobody else makes, or at least not the special way you do.

My specialty is donuts! Everyone in my family looks forward to having these and I only make them for Thanksgiving and Christmas. So tomorrow night I will be frying away making a big double batch. I know, not clean AT ALL :9

So what's your specialty?

:) Nicole

Pumpkin pies from the bakery around the corner. Every time I ask if I should make something everyone screams "NO" at the same time! :+

My specialty is to stand around watching everyone else cook and say, "looks good, looks good!" :p

I have no speciality. I was hoping to develop one this year but since my MIL saddled me with the oh-so-boring mashed spuds, I guess my cooking glory will have to be put off til next year! :)

I make scalloped oysters. Oh so not clean, but sooo good. It's a family recipe handed down from my father's mother's mother's mother... Very simple, but I never have leftovers.

I would sell my soul for a homemade doughnut, Nicole. If you coat them in chocolate I'll sell DH's too. Are you currently in the market for a couple of slightly used souls? :p

Home made donuts! Yum! Wish you were in my family.
I make an Armenian rice stuffing with currents, pine nuts, allspice and a pinch of cinnamon. It is delicious with the turkey and cranberry sauce.

Mine would be the expected marshmallow fruit salad, and lemon and pumpkin pie. It is actually a twice a year thing. Christmas and Thanksgiving. I even have Halloween pumpkin cooked mashed and frozen in the freezer for pies.

Thanksgiving is NOT about eating clean!! I wish I could try those donuts - I'm the donut queen! Not to make them, to EAT them!
Just Do It! :)

Hmmm, homemade donuts do sound yummy...afraid my family will have to settle for Dunkin' Donuts:)
Seriously, I make this sweet potato casserole our DD's demand every year and the younger one also expects green beans almondine from Mama:)
DH gets all excited about my turkey...it's store bought, but I fill it with butter and sage and stuff...now if he'd bring home a Virginia grown wild turkey for me to fix up...then I'd get excited, too! Esp. if he finishes my cooking up with smoking the bird for us:)

I make a wicked pumpkin pie. It has a little praline layer between the crust and the filling and I make it deep dish.

A couple of years ago Good Morning America had a pie contest with Emeril Lagasse. This one was the winner and I have made it every since. Just thinking about it makes me happy!!!!

I also make a wicked sweet potato casserole with Southern Comfort in it.

Okay, people, if you're gonna brag about your specialties, at least have the decency to give us the recipes. Particularly the pumpkin praline pie;) And all the veggie casseroles.

Please?

<wicked sweet potato casserole with Southern Comfort in it>

YUMMMMMM!!! I make a sweet potatoe casserole but no Southern Comfort in it.

I actually developed a very yummy whole cranberry sauce. I LOVE cranberries (actually eat them plain, straight out of the bag), so it's my favorite. It's a cranberry sauce made with mangoes and a little brandy. Sweet, tart and delicious. I'm not an ice cream or cake eater, but I imagine it would be pretty good on those, too. I eat it plain - hehe.

pecan cake. I have to make it every year otherwise I am not allowed to come to the feast.

Also homemade cherry cheesecake and blueberry crunch.

My family likes the way I make desserts and I don't mind HOWEVER I have to have my Mama make the pumpkin pie, I LOVE pumpkin pie.

Pecan pie, and I love it! I make at least 6 every thanksgiving. MIL,mom, grandpa and work have me busy. But I don't mind it,its just that I want to sample a bit of each one!:9 }(

Ok...I have to agree with Shelley. You guys gotta cut loose with your recipes!

Maybe we should start another thread? Something like "Turkey Day special recipes" or something like that. I personally want every singe recipe mentioned! They all sound so yummy!

Whattya think?
