What's your Turkey Day specialty?

I cook everything for the entire dinner, so i guess that is my specialty:p This year i ordered a honey ham cause we eat so much turkey year round. But everything else will be homemade. This year the only new recipe i am trying is Applebutter Pumpkin Pie. I saw it on foodtv and i have to try it:9 dh loves apple butter.

Sweet potato casserole. You have no idea how fattening it is, but it is so yummy. I mainly make it on Christmas though.

My mom would disagree with you, Honeybunch. She thinks Thanksgiving IS about clean eating, although she probably doesn't know the term. Everything my mom makes is natural, and often organic. Everything is low in sugar and relatively low in fat. And absolutely DELICIOUS. She's an awesome cook, and hers is the best turkey I've ever tasted.

My speciality is bringing the wine. That's all I can be trusted with.

I saw that same show with the Apple Butter Pumpkin Pie. I was tempted, but mine is too awesome. I am going to try those sweet potato balls she made.

We did try the bacon/breadstick thingies Paula's son's made. G-R-O-S-S. The breadsticks absorbed the bacon fat and they were just awful.

I'll let you know how the balls are....let me know how that pie is.

I'm posting it into a new thread. We don't want to incite the Limecat to violence.

Me too, Jes. Can't imagine Thanksgiving without good wine.

Nope, can't be trusted with ANYTHING around my Mom. Nothing I could ever make would ever be good enough for her. But she does seem to approve of the wines I bring. So I'm sticking with that.

The most simple thing I make is on the back of the Hershey's Cocoa Box for Chocolate Cake. The cake and the frosting is super good. It's often requested at every family function.

I would love some of Tammy's Carrot Cake!!!

My specialty is garlic mashed potatoes. I have always been in charge of the mashed potatoes and purely by accident one year I tried something different. I cooked a few garlic cloves with the potatoes. You were supposed to take the cloves out before you mashed them...I forgot, but the end result has been wonderful as everyone loved the garlic taste. Now though my DH wants me to put the chipotles chiles in them...that could be stretching it a bit...:)...Carole

Carole, sounds like your DH & I have the same type of cast-iron stomach. I've been know to eat salmon with Tabasco sauce- for breakfast. I say adding the garlic to your chipotle mashed-potatoes might be pretty tasty.

We spend Thanksgiving with my inlaws and my FIL does the cooking. I'm very grateful that I don't have to mess with all that but I do miss my moms feast. My FIL does a nice job though.

He asks me to bring this salad every year. It consists of romaine lettuce, red leaf lettuce, radicchio, spinach, belgian endive, red onions, toasted walnuts, and dried cranberries, then I mix in crumbled feta cheese. I toss it with a simple dressing of red wine vinegar, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Recently I've been substituting fresh squeezed OJ for the red wine vinegar and orange segments in for the cranberries.
