I think "bad" carbs can indeed make you bloat or put on belly fat. Maybe your body just feels different because you ate differently than you usually do on vaction?
I try to avoid bad carbs too. I just eat heathly...raw fruits, veggies, low carb protein shakes, meats, etc. I think alot of it is common sense of what to avoid...french fries, pizza, donuts, etc.
I've been trying food combining lately (keeping concentrated proteins and concentrated starches separate, and fruit on its own) because my IBS (stomach cramps after eating) has been pretty bad. It seems to be helping. It is also making my diet healthier because I eat either protein and veg, or carbs and veg, so I am eating more veg than I normally do. I've lost a couple of pounds in the last week, but for me that is not good because I don't want to lose weight. Now that my IBS is more under control, I plan to increase the food intake.

I do not diet, period. I do not believe in restrictions. I eat for health, I don't want to suffer major diseases, and I eat to fuel my workouts. I have been vegetarian since I was 15.
Did you all read Cathe's comment yesterday to someone on her ASK CATHE forum? She said she has noticed that too many people in her classes are flaking out half-way through because they are following low carb diets and are not eating enough sustaining carbs to fuel their workouts. What's the point in that?
I basically try to eat healthy utilizing some tips from the "clean eaters" , I go low-fat in some things and I have taken some tips from the EFL cook book that I have....I'm not dieting...just trying to eat as healthy as I can with out feeling deprived and this "conglomeration" that I have created seems to be working for me.

I pretty much follow South Beach, but I noticed on the pole it is listed as low carb with Atkins. It is really falls more into the good carb/clean eating category.
Atkins for me, although I also prefer to think of it as a "good carb" diet b/c I pretty much stick with pork, chicken, fish & eggs & eat lots of salads & veggies. I don't think I'll ever go off this diet--it's so easy & effective.
6 small meals a day,--- about 300 cals each (I don't obsess about this ) ----as clean as I can get, most of the time, ---good carbs, plus a protein. LOTS of H2O.
I'm with Susan and Clare. I don't follow a diet, too much to think about. I eat healthy and maintain the same weight year round. I don't need to lose so I indulge when I want to without any guilt or weight gains. Life's too short to worry about everything I put into my mouth. If I gain, then that would be a different story.
