Whats up with the pajama pants?

Is it like this where you live? Kids have gotten into the habit of wearing their pajamas outside and DD wants to do this and I won't let her.
But yesterday I went to the grocery store and when I looked there was a LADY in front of me with bright blue pajamas on and it looked like mickey mouse could have been plastered all over them. What is wrong with people? Are you that uncomfortable in a pair of jeans? Is it that hard to get dressed?

I've seen them too. I think it's very sloppy and lazy looking. I read an article from Tosca Reno in Oxygen magazine where she says 'any self respecting women would never go out in public wearing sweatpants...' I happen to agree with that.
I realize we all have out moments where we have to dash out of the house for maybe one item at the grocery store late at night, but come on.

I was wondering the same thing. I see people in Wal Mart, etc. dressed like that. Mostly teens though. Not very flattering, huh?

Oh, I hate that trend too. How hard is it to throw on a pair of pants? I love my pjs but I don't consider them appropriate attire for wearing outside the house.

I was at the airport flying back from Chicago, and there was a woman in line at security wearing big fluffy pink slippers? WTH?

must be that old navy commerical LOL during the shopping season they had a commerical about a gal who won an award b/c she wore her jammies out in public and she looked so cute.

and for those that hate jeans they do have other options for comfortable pant. honestly the only way i would be out in public with my jammies on would be an emergency and didn't have time to dress.

O.k..so its every where then. I have seen kids upon kids wearing them and its no biggie cause you know what kids are like. But when I saw this women going into the grocery store yesterday, wallet in hand...I was thinking...were you to lazy to put on a pair of jeans? Even a pair of track pants would have been better the bright blue mickey mouse p.j's.
Maybe she ate to much over the holidays!:)

My DD is a swimmer, and that is what the swimmers wear into practice at night. I guess it does not bother me at all. I coached her Jr High rec softball team last summer. It was just a fun little slow pitch league, not the serious fast pitch traveling league, and all the girls on all the teams wore the PJ pants to play in, the crazier the better.

On campus I see the college kids wearing them, and they just look comfy!

DD with her swimmers hair had a pair that say bad hair day all over them that she loves to wear.

Since I am in the swimmer culture so much, frankly it does not bother me. There is so much WORSE out there, like the too tight, too low jeans and muffin tops, baggy PJ bottoms are somewhat of a relief.

I think what we're saying is that for the kids, it's fine, cute even. But for a grown woman to be wearing Mickey Mouse pjs to the grocery store is a bit much.

I think it's dumb. They are so obviously PJ pants. I don't even wear sweats in public. How hard is it to pull on a pair of jeans?

Okay, I do confess I love sweats. I wear those around for errands. PJ pants would be a bit much for sure. I'd be tempted for comfiness but I would never do that.

From what I understand, this trend began on college campuses b/c students would just kind of roll out of bed & go right to class in their PJs. I guess this is somewhat understandable considering most college campuses are self-contained communities so the only public students really see are other students, probably wearing the same thing.

Now I'm thinking it's part of this new trend of wearing clothing that makes you look as shapeless & unattractive as possible. I've actually seen people in the gym wearing pajama pants. Not kids either--I've seen two women wearing them & both were in their 40s-50s. I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but IMO it looks absolutely ridiculous.

There was a big uproar last year in our city as one high school sent two students home when then showed up in the pajama pants. The parents supported their kids wearing the pajamas and it became a big hot topic in the newspaper for a few days.

"Kids" have been doing this at my university (!) for the last two years or so. Is it just hitting your area?

It was one thing when it was just the flannel pants that looked kind of like p.j. bottoms, but the actual p.j. bottom thing is something I can't understand?

I've even seen kids wearing bedroom slippers with the pants...to class! I think that some of them literally just roll out of bed and come to class in what they were wearing! I mean, would you actually change from p.j.'s to p.j. bottoms?

To me, it's the American "relaxed" look taken to the extreme.

My SD10 tries to wear her flannel PJs to school, too. Complete with unbrushed bed hair and a sweatshirt. DH refuses to allow her out of the house. But we know that her mother lets her do it.

I don't care if it's comfortable. I don't think it's acceptable for school. If you wear them to your team practice because the whole team is wearing them, I guess it's more like a uniform.

But then again, I'm the evil stepmom who won't let the kids eat lunch if they are still wearing their pajamas }(

My daughter wears her pajama pants with her ugg boots! I think it is the most unattractive look around, and would never do it myself, but all her friends are wearing that look, too. I don't think grown-ups should be wearing their pjs, though.

>I'd rather see someone in pajamas than low rise jeans with
>their bu*t hanging out.

I have to agree with you on this one, ivorygorgon!
