What's causing this?

I've been experiencing pain behind my knee (not behind kneecap but right in the back of my knee - make sense?)when I do squats and pain decreases as I do more of them, anyone know what this may be? And what to do about it?
Thanks
Sherry:)

Well I'm no dr., & I would strongly suggest you see one, but it sounds like a cramped tendon or muscle, especially if it loosens up after you start working out.

The pain is not sharp but hurts enough that I tend to put more weight on the other leg, and now that I think about it, it's not only with squats, but lunges (power scissors, plyo jacks) only during exercising.

I don't know what it is, but mine does the same, but only usually when I have been exercising alot or hitting the weights pretty hard. Or the combo of too much hiking and weight workouts....Maybe you should try to do something low impact for a bit to rest that??

Hi Sherry!

Do you feel this pain all the time? Or only when excercising (and then it decreases with squats).

Sit down with your legs straight out in front of you. Does it hurt there (behind your knee) when you pull your toe of that leg toward your body? If that increases the pain, or gives you a sharp pain behind your knee, then I would recommend you going to a doctor. Sometimes pains behind the knee can be a symptom of a blod clot - and maybe the excercising increases your blood flow and thus decreases the pain??

I hope you feel better!

I just posted about how my chiropractor saved me (because I'd torqued my knee). I would bet you've "torqued" your knee, too...only differently than I did. Sounds like you've got a bone/nerve problem, so I would recommend seeing a good chiropractor who actually practices the manual manipulation of bones (not one who uses an "activator" or other "instrument" to complete his/her adjustments). If you do a little checking around for one, you might actually ask them how much experience/knowledge they have in adjusting the knees and ankles. Also ask them if they have a "hard-handed" or "soft-handed" technique. I find that the hard-handed doctors adjust the legs better than soft-handed ones (I've seen lots of chiropractors through the years).

mine does this too and it drives me crazy(but i have NO idea what causes it.) i don't use weights for leg work and i land toe-ball-heel:) we're just lucky i guess!

Bumping to find out if the original poster has investigated their leg pain further, because I really think a trip to the chiro will help tremendously!

I haven't checked out my leg pain with a Dr. (yet)and I haven't much interest in seeing a chiro (I've just heard way too many horror stories I guess). It's one of those things I'll probably put off for awhile, you know ... grin and bear it!! I couldn't imagine not being able to workout because of this darn knee, even having to take a rest right now would be very difficult (overeating, overeating , oh yeah and OVEREEATING!)

All of you are so knowledgeable, thanks for the advice.:)

Hi Sherry,

I'm sorry about your knee I know it can mighty aggravating. I do want to say that if you have pain that is not going away see a dr. I did the same thing about my foot and put it off for 4 months and now it has been 7 months since I have been able to exercise. THe dr. and physical therapist said it could take a year for this to heal, because of waiting so long to go I made my problem chronic.I don't want to see you end up doing the same thing I did. I said the same thing that I would not go because I loved exercising and I knew they would make me stop. And yes I eat eat eat! That's because I know that this will take a long time! But you can eliminate that by going to a dr.

I am really sorry if it sounds like I am preaching but I just don't want to see you in the same boat as me. Yes we love exercising but if you go now you may not have to lay off for so long.

Sorry so long, I am just concerned.
