What would you do??? Rest week timing is off

I will finish with Meso #1 on Tuesday. Technically I should take a week off and start with disc 13 on Tuesday March 3rd. But, I am going out of town and will not work out (except for light tennis) March 5th-8th.

I'm condidering March 5th-8th to be my true rest week. What should I do the week prior when I will have already finished Meso 1 but still have a week until my "rest week"?

1. Just do a week of cardio?

2. Redo week 4 of Meso 1?

3. Go ahead and start Meso 2 (if I do, should I redo that first week of Meso 2 when I get back or just move forward with the second week)?

If you have a different suggestion, I'm open to that also . . .

TIA,

Lauren

Hi Lauren:

First, congrats on finishing your first Mesocycle!!! that must be a great feeling of accomplishment! I should be finishing up next week too ,but I started over with Cathe and all on 2.16.09...

Second, what a dilemma to have! :) definately no scientific reasoning behind this, but one option would be to go back through the last 4 weeks and select your 2 favorite upper body workouts and your favorite Legs workout and do those this week in the same order you did them during the rotation... take your rest week while you are out of town and then start Meso 2 when you get back...

just my 2 cents :)

Theres only a 8-9 day difference so personally I'd start @ DISC 1 again and work thru as normal until your vacation. Thats kinda like doing a modified version of the 6 month rotation. When your vacation (recovery) is over you'll be perfectly primed for Meso 2

Hi Lauren,

If it was me, I would redo week 4 of Meso 1. Since you're already familiar with that last week of workouts, you'll probably have a great week working out! I think that would be better than breaking up your next Meso cycle.

I totally agree with Dani! I'm a big believer in using any series, including a structured series like STS, and adapting it to your own personal preferences, and I'm also a big believer in taking some time out from a structured rotation (not like I've ever been able to follow one myself) and doing a My-Own-Personal-Faves workout or workout week. Plus, practice makes perfect, and one more go-round with your faves from this meso can make your next pass though it that much more productive!

I too agree that that's a cool dilemma you have! Would that more of the American population could or would be faced with such a decision!

I will also add... that I started STS on 2/2 when I received them but when Cathe announced that she was going to be doing the program with all of us starting on 2/16, I kept going with the first 2 weeks of Meso 1 and then started over with week 1 again with Cathe...

I really enjoyed the DVD's again... While I really was completely hooked by the STS series because you would NEVER have to do the same workout twice for 3 whole months, I really did thoroughly enjoy "reliving" the first week last week! I got the flow and knew what to expect and think I got MORE out of the first week the second time around... if that makes sense :) AND bonus was that the DOMS I experienced with that killer disc 3 legs didn't KILL me the second time around, so that is a PLUS for me :)

I really don't think there is a "best" way so hopefully hearing from some of us that have done them a couple times and still feel that they are fresh and new, will help you feel confident that you will not be dissappointed if you opt to redo a few workouts this coming week...

AND if you decide to move forward with Meso 2, you could do the same thing... do the first 3 discs and take your week off during your trip, and then re-do the first week of Meso 2 when you get back and continue... maybe preview them and see which you would rather 'relive' so to speak :) Again, I really don't think there is any wrong answer here... the real goal is to work, so regardless of how you do it, you are at least doing it! ;)

I did the exact same thing (partly to be on the same schedule as everyone else and partly because I was enjoying Meso 1 and wanted to make it last a little longer) and I have had great workouts this week. In your shoes I'd probably redo the last week of Meso 1 and then take the rest week during the vacation. But I don't know if that's the "right" answer.

I completed meso- cycle one on Friday. If I had your situation I think that I would repeat week four and then enjoy your well deserved rest week.
