What time of day do you workout?

It depends on what rotation I'm doing and how intense it is.
Right now, I'm working out intensely. I do cardio in the morning at 7:30 and Weights around 3:00pm. If I'm on an easier rotation and my workouts are 1hr. or under, I get them over with in the morning. Anything over an hour, will have to wait until 3:00pm.

I'm up every morning at 4:30 AM. I workout at 5:30AM (that hour is my only "me" time). I used to have problems getting up, but I took at 6AM class one time where there were only 4-6 of us. I always felt I HAD to be there just to make sure the instructor had someone to instruct. It did get easier with time. I just don't really give myself an option. It's the only time I hav e to workout, and I'll be darned if I miss a work out, so I do it. I know I'll feel better in the long run.

On a side note - my workouts used to be fairly inconsistent until I did start the morning routine. Now I workout 6 days a week like clock work. It's worth it to me.

Luvmylabs,
I set my alarm to go off at 5:30 and roll out of bed at 6ish(sometimes earlier and sometimes later). Hitting the snooze a few times really helps me, I figure I'm already up, I may as well get out of bed. Another motivator for me is that I sub and sometimes I get calls about 7:30 and I know if I don't work out in the am, it will never get done. Also, that way I eat and shower and am ready for the day. So, I work out 6 days a week at 6am/ish because if I don't I wouldn't work out and thats not an option for me.

My alarm goes off at 4:20a.m. This gives me 10 minutes to get dressed and awake, then start my workout at 4:30. That way I have 1 hour to workout. With my schedule, I MUST be in the shower by 5:30 to make everything work just right in the morning. I leave for work at 7:00. Usually when my alarm goes off, if I'm not feeling like getting up, I just have to think about my thighs and that gets me right out of bed!! It was hard at first, but after a couple of weeks, it became routine. Of course this means I have to go to bed by 9 or 9:30 at night.

I WORK OUT IN THE AM BEFORE ANYONE IS UP. I GET UP AT AROUND 4:45. MY BODY IS SO USED TO IT THAT IT IS JUST HABIT NOW. I KNOW IF I DON'T DO IT THEN I WILL GET BUSY LATER ON. IT HELPS THAT I AM A MORNING PERSON.

I'm a AM person I usually start my workout around 5:30 all depends on how rested I am. But, I like to give myself 1.5 hours to play with.

I work out early. I get up around 5:30 (I'm a total morning person, don't even need an alarm) and am usually exercising by 6 or 7. I used to try and workout at night but then I spend the whole day thinking "I need to workout later." Besides I want to spend my evenings with DH, not the treadmill!!

ETA: tips! Move your alarm clock out of reach so you have to get up to turn it off. Lay out your clothes, water, weights etc the night before. Don't think about it, just get up. After a couple of weeks it will be routine.

I'm up at 4:15 and start my wo btwn 4:45 and 5:00. It depends on what I have planned. I have my clothes and my wo all laid out and planned ahead, so I don't have to think too much. I have to have coffee before I start. My coffee maker is set to brew at 4am, so it's ready when I get up.Yea, I have to go to bed by 9:30, and my family thinks I'm nuts. But, it's so worth it to have the wo over with so I can get on with my day and evening. Good luck!

I'm in the very early am camp for two reasons. First, it's really the only time that is consistently available to me. Second, I'm far too physically exhausted at the end of the day to even think of doing anything but eating, showering and bed. I like to program the coffee pot for 4:50 that way I know when my alarm goes off at 5:00 that my coffee is awaiting...mmmm, nothing like that smell to get me going :9 ! I have half my breakfast and 1 cup while I wake up then usually start my workout between 5:30 and 6:00, depending on fast I wake up. Believe me, a natural morning person I am not! I actually have grown to really like this schedule, though. When I'm done I have much more energy to start the day with and any DOMS that might result are lessened because I'm constantly moving and riding horses all day.

All I can say is find what works for you, on your terms so you're more likely to stick with it and enjoy the time spent.

Since I am a SAHM right now, the window is anywhere between 8:30am and 1ish depending upon if I am at the gym or not. If I go to the gym I am often done and home by 11am (which includes getting my son & getting home). Sometimes I'll just do cardio at the gym and then come home to lift, so I'll go until lunchtime. Today I did from 11:30 until 12:30 just at home. So I guess morning is a safe answer for me nowadays. I am pooped by the evening. I remember it was so hard to get motivated after a long day at work.

I am totally NOT a morning person....Heck, I work 12 hr night shifts!!! I typically workout late afternoon. When I work, I get up at 3:45pm and go for an hour or so. When I am off, I may workout in the morning, but it's late morning, early afternoon. Sometimes I can even be found doing my thing around 6 pm.

I work from 7 until 3, so what i do is some of my workout in the morining, which is just pilates and some light stretches(which makes me feel awake and ready for the day) and then after work i do the rest which is usually cardio and weights. This really works for me because i feel i can work harder after i have been up for awhile and plus it helps relieve the stress from a long day at work.

Between 4:00 and 4:30, depending on the workout I have planned. If I waited until I got home, dealt with everyones' issues, cooked and cleaned, did laundry, helped with homework, etc., etc, etc, it would be time to sleep again!! It's dark out that early, no one else is awake (even the cat sleeps!!), and that hour is ALL MINE. It took a LONG time to get used to it though.

I am really the procrasinator here as I don't work out most times until 8:30 or 9:00PM. Sometimes, depending on when I get dinner, I don't get downstairs until 9:30 PM.

I don't work out early on the weekends either.

I leave school at 3:45 most days. The horse gets his workout first, especially now that the days are so short, I like to get to the barn before it gets dark and I feel safer.

When I get home I eat, and then start exercising about an hour after that.

I don't have any problems falling asleep, although many articles I've read on the subject say working out before bed is not good for you. (Next thing you know the experts will say working out after sundown causes breast cancer too- hahaha!!!)

But I don't have little munchkins to tend to either - the whole bedtime routine, etc.

I'm an early riser also. When I'm running & training for a race, I get up at 4:45 to be out the door by 5. I'm kind of a get up & work out type of person, the workout will wake me up once I get going!! ;-) Just a bottle of water & I'm good to go!

Now that I'm off from running (IT band problems...) I can sleep in a little bit & get up at 5:45 to do a DVD & be done by 7 when I have to wake up my dd's for school. I prefer to do cardio first thing, and then weights later. Thankfully I'm a SAHM & my 3yo still naps in the afternoons so I'll fit in my weights then. Also, 2 mornings a week my dd goes to preschool so I have 2 hrs I can fit in a workout then also.

But I really prefer to get my butt out of bed & get it done first thing. My day runs much more smoothly & I feel accomplished all day.

Also, a few tips. Pick out your clothes & lay them out the night before. Put your alarm clock somewhere you *have* to get out of bed to turn it off. Then once you're up DON'T get back in bed. Also, I find that just telling myself that I *have* to get up then I will. It was easy when I was meeting my running buddies, I knew they'd be waiting for me at 5AM so I'd better get up to meet them!
HTH!

Now I mean my next statement with the deepest love. I say :p to all you morning peeps! lol My body is barely moving before 10am let alone thinking about working out. I've never been a morning person and don't think I ever will. I've got so much muscular tightness that any attempt to stretch, mangle or discombobulate my body in the early morning would land me on my massage therapists table lickety split. :7

With that in mind, I work out best mid-late afternoon when my muscles have loosened up or in the evening if I didn't have time earlier. Of course there are those occasions (like over-eating on Halloween candy after dinner) when I have to add on an emergency aerobic workout at 9 or 10pm. Thankfully, Halloween only comes once a year! }(
