What is your favorite site for tracking calories?

I have been journaling my food for about a month now. Just the basics of what I eat. I eat then write it. It has been helpful since I feel like my exercising has been a little lax lately. I have lost 4lbs and the tracking has helped to keep them off. I would like to lose about 50lbs, it just seems my body loves to hold onto what is there. I tried to follow WW at home but alway found I ran out of points by lunchtime and felt frustrated. Then I bought the calorieking calorie counter book. It has a lot of good info but I don't find the set up to be very compatible for my tastes.

I want something simple to use, friendly and free or inexpensive. I don't think I eat more than the average person. I have days when all I could do is eat everything sight and other days I'm fine.

Jenn,

I've used Fitday.com for a number of years. It can be a bit finicky with how foods are listed (example: "sweet potato" is listed as "sweetpotato" and a search for the correct two word spelling will yield 0 results) but overall, its an effective tool for me. There is a free online version and a paid version that I hear has more features. I've also used sparkpeople.com but went back to Fitday for some reason.

My husband and I both use the Calorie King Website - http://www.calorieking.com/ (I know you did not like the book). I believe it is $45 for a year. My husband and I both use it and we thought it was much better than Weight Watchers. The disadvantage is that their meal plans aren't that great, but we use sites like Cooking Light, Food Network and Discovery Health to find healthy and filling recipes.

If you are looking for something free, there is Spark People (http://sparkpeople.com/). I have never used it, so I can't tell you if it is good or bad.
Good luck to you!

I just started Sparkpeople this weekend. I like that, not only can you track calories, fat, carbs, etc., you can pick other vitamins and minerals to watch. I really want to increase my calcium, so I picked that as a nutrient to track daily.

Add it's free!

Another poster on this site suggested sparkpeople about 3 months ago and I now use it every day. It has a lot of neat features in addition to the nutrition tracker. I don't use their menu options but just put in the food I eat. It is a bit time consuming entering foods into your favorites list, but once you get those foods logged in, it's a snap. It is the only nutrition tracker I have ever used so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I just love it and it has helped me lose 20 pounds!:)

Hope this helps

Angie

I'm another who likes fitday (though I haven't even gone to spark.

I like it because you can put in your own foods (I just carry the box/bag back to my computer and go right of the labels).

Then you have a listing you can choose from of your most recent and it makes it really quick if you eat the same things often.

Another fitday.com user here. I am also following weight watchers and use their online tracker. Fitday is very easy to set up and once you get your favorites added, it really doesn't take much time at all.
