What is the best combo of workouts to lean out the lowe...

I just had baby #2 3 weeks ago and was thrilled with how much your tapes helped me out when I had my first baby last May. I am pear shaped and tend to put on weight in my thighs, calves, butt and hips. Most of my pregnancy weight seemed to go there again. :( My upper body gets toned pretty easily, but after years of marathon running and working out, I still can't seem to tone my lower half as much as I'd like. I have about 18 pounds of pregnancy weight to lose and I'm wondering how many times a week I should do the lower body pyramid vs. straight cardio workouts like Boot Camp, Kick, Punch, Crunch, Step, etc. I always worry that I will make my booty bigger if I do the wrong ratio of cardio/weights. Thanks for all of your motivation and for challenging me with your workouts!

Your dilemma sounds like miine as well...although, I did not recently have a baby.

I, like you, have been working out for years, marathon/triathlon training, along with weight training and various other methods of cardio training, but still have a booty.

Recently, I have taken time off completely from all this training - I am in the middle of a move, and so things are hectic with that. I have been active - walking and keeping busy alll day, but have not worked out.

I am starting fresh once we are settled in a few weeks. Anyways, I do notice my leg/booty size has decreased. :) I think, at least for me, doing too much cardio, too much leg work, makes that area increase in size.

I am interested in seeing what the rest of the members and Cathe have to say - any advice for us pear shaped gals?

Good luck, and I am sure the baby weight will come off sooner than you think! :)

Everyone will respond to various forms of training differently so I think you'll need to pick an option and stick with it for 4-6 weeks to see if it suits your body. You'll get lost of suggestions to choose from I'm sure!

First- check out Cathes Rotations index and look for things like Lower Body Last in the title - those are really very very good!

What leans my legs out the most is 1 day a week of "cardio Legs" like Imax, LowMax, any kind of plyometrics work... B&G is good- Drill Max Cardio Leg Blast is good + 1 day a week of Strength Training for legs (a full hour) Any of Cathes Strength tapes for Lower - Legs & Glutes Leg Blast versions are awesome! Make sure you're getting your floor work in as well....

Just my ideas based on what works for me.

Alot of people have tried the freestyle training program by George Snyder, where you lift weights for lower body 6x a week. I just got the book myself on amazon. If you do a search on here you will read alot of people have had success leaning out their legs. That's my hope. Good Luck, Mary

Hi Wcarrie! Congatulations mommy! Everyones body responds to different fitness approaches so you will need to do a bit of experimenting. What worked for me after baby #2 was cross training. A mixture of a lot of circuit workouts, kickbox workouts, endurance workouts, and one total body heavy lifting session here and there ....all for about 4 months.

Hugs to you and you kiddies!

Thanks Cathe! I'm back to doing a modified version of your workouts until I get my 6 week check up and then I'll kick it into high gear! Thanks so much for responding - a mom like you that looks so great is an inspiration!
