What is most effective for back of legs?

Most of you know from my other post that I want to get rid of a bit of cellulite on the back of my leg. Other leg is tone without any, but the other is not. So should I run more or should I do lower body workouts everyday? I really want to shock the cellulite right off the legs so what is best?

My vote is for more running or cardio. Cellulite is nothing more than fat which lies over muscle. It has that dimpled appearance because of a layer of connective tissue and fasciae over it. The fat squeezes through and around this tissue causing that look. The best thing is to try and lower body fat but you already at the low end and so this might be difficult. Building more muscle tissue at the back of your leg might just accentuate the appearance of cellulite as you would be pushing the fat layer thru the connective tissue even further. Perhaps you might focus on endurance type exercises with light weights for the back of the legs. Good luck.

Hmmm, this is interesting and I've sometimes wondered whether this is what's happening with me.

I'm at very low body fat and am pretty toned/defined overall. My lower body is where I hold my fat, but I eat pretty clean and have been able to manage it. I recently, noticed some dimples/cellulite starting to form on my behind and am perplexed because I had actually been working my lower body pretty intensly (heavy weights and higher intesity cardio). My legs have actually become leaner and harder, and my behind is higher, but these dimples seem to have appeared almost overnight. Is it possible that I built up the muscle and the fat is pushing through the connective tissue?

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Charlotte:

I've read that deadlifts are the best for the hamstrings, but these can be tricky (I am always worried my form is off & that causes back problems). I've also heard alternately leg presses and lunges.

I actually asked this question at the bottom of a thread a while ago, but... it was the bottom of a thread. ;-)

Cheers,
Marie

Squats and lunges. Get the hamstrings, quads and glutes in both the up and down phases of the movements. If you can do them, squats are the biggest exercise bargain you can get. These exercises also build lean muscle mass. But, you also need cardio to do the major work of fat burning in addition to eating cleanly. Weight-bearing cardio is good because it also challenges the lower body muscles and helps decrease your overall body fat (which any cardio will do). My other suggestion, keep your expectations realistic. I have seen some very fit people with cellulite. It just is sometimes.

Marie- Thanks! I always wonder about my form too on the deadlifts, but I know I am doing it right if I just glance at my shoulder when going down and feeling it in the hamstrings. It is when I don't feel it in the hamstrings that I know that I am not doing the deadlifts correctly and have to check my form again. Anyhow,I just started doing some researching myself and so far found that these things help....

Green tea, pineapple stem, aloe vera and lots of raw fruits and veggies.

So far then I am doing everything right as I eat the pineapple and raw fruit and veggies and drink alot of green tea. Not to mention the strength training and cardio. I have one stubborn body and all my 15% of bodyfat is stuck on my one thigh! LOL!

Cellulite also gathers when you're not flushing your system with lots of water. Toxins will store in the fatty areas thus contributing to the look of cellulite.

I read that in last months issue of Oxygen.

Good point, Lois about keeping expectations realistic. I think I need to be remember this!

Yes, I've seen the Paris Hilton cellulite pics. At least they make you feel better. }( }(

Charlotte, you are amazing. 15% bf is fantastic and your pics are awesome!

My expectations always seem high, but that just makes me want to workout harder which is good. Legs actually look better today than yesterday. Sucking down the green tea/water and eating tons of watermelon. Just had a salad too along with my usual eggs or tuna.
I guess it is just a never ending battle, but my stubborness and my willpower will never let me quit...unrealistic or not!
From all that I read, it is probably a good sign to see more cellulite as that must mean that the fat is being pushed closer to the surface of the skin. And trying to control ones estrogen levels...well I am not going to go there.

spinning and running has done wonders for my legs.
They are solid and shapely.

My midsection however...... :-( :-( :-(
