Okay, so already I had a big kerfuffle about my car (see the "I hate cars" thread).

Now the bank just phoned me to say that there has been potential fraud on my debit card and they've cancelled it!!! I now have to go to the branch (how I will do that with no car is beyond me) and get a new one and they will show me a statement and I have to figure out if anything on it is fraudulent.

Apparently I have somehow upset the Karma gods.x(

HOLY CRAP!! WTH, Shelley??? When it rains, it pours! Well, at least your bank recognized it and you won't be responsible for fraudulent charges. That's insane. Just tell yourself it can only get better from this point on!!

That happened to me once! That stinks!!!!!!

Someone got a hold of my debit card number and was ordering $100 worth of pizza like every day for a week!!! It turns out they only ordered $20 worth of food and wrote in an $80 tip to get the cash back. Some weird things pizza places do?

I got the money back eventually but it was a huge hassle!

I haven't read the other car thread, but I had a dream someone used my debit card for $3500...$500 was for a tatoo!!....can't remember what the $3,000.00 was for...I'm sorry Shelly...hope you can get it straightened out...:)...Carole

Awww Shelley, I'm sorry it is such a rough day. Hopefully a nice ray of sunshine will come to you tomorrow! I hope everything turns out alright.

I'm so sorry Shelley. I had a friend who had a similar experience with the credit but she didn't find out until she did a credit check when she was applying for a mortgage and someone had been using her personal info for a while without her knowledge. She eventually got it straightened out ... So I guess it is good that they caught it early but it really stinks to have to go through all that. I hope everything all works out OK. Many hugs!...

((((HUGS)))) More hugs for you, Shelley. You poor thing! This has not been your day. But at least the bank recognized the potential problem. This has happened to me too and everything turned out fine. I just had to go a few days without a debit card.

Hang in there - it can only get better from here! :)

Sorry about that shelley!! I had a problem with my card as well and had to cancell it. I know this can be a pain!!

Sending positive vibes your way!

I'm sorry about that Shelley! That really sucks!! Why are they making you go to them to deal with this? I've had to cancel so many credits cards before and I just had to do it over the telephone and the internet. What a pain!!
Carolyn

I didn't cancel the card, the bank did. And I have to go into the branch to get a new card and to review a statement of charges to ensure that none of them are fraudulent. And it's my debit card, not a credit card:)

I'm sorry this is happening to you. My DH won't even keep a debit card in his wallet. This happened to him before with a credit card. Hope everything gets resolved quickly!

I haven't read the I Hate Cars thread, but I feel really bad about what is happening! At least your bank cancelled the debit card to prevent any more damage, you have a good bank! :) Everything will work itself out! Just stay away from the cookies, you don't need to add guilt and a confession to your list of things that are going wrong :+ This will all pass and work itself out. Hang in there!!!

Shelley,

This just happened to me today, with my credit card. Someone tried to charge over $6,000 on my card yesterday -- plus two fradulent charges last week.

The bank closed the account today.

It's great that they catch fraud so quickly at least.

Hope your day shines better tomorrow. :)

Did you give the dealer your debit card? I'm wondering if that large a charge coming through put up the red flags. I've never heard of the bank cancelling a debit card without your authorization.

Kathy

I had something like that happen to me recently with a credit card. I ordered a computer for my niece with it and for some reason that caused the CC company put a fraud flag on the account. I couldn't use it until I verified with them that the charges were legit.

Well, it turns out that it was ME that caused the flag on my debit card, causing them to cancel it. I put two things through at Costco yesterday within minutes of each other and this, apparently, it typical of someone using a stolen card. So I now have a new, albeit temporary, card and my account is fine, no fraudulent charges.

Oh how frustrating! At least your account is fine. I guess we shouldn't go through Costco's line twice, should we - never would have thought!
