What else can I do????????

............to get a job???? Oh, I never should have quit mine! I had no idea that getting even an entry level job would be SO competetive!!

I make the resume, draft the cover letters, buy the suit, I suffer the interview anxiety (now on top of the nursing school anxiety), I smile, I interview with 2+ people each place, same stupid questions, I write the thank you letters.. BLAH BLAH BLAH!!

Then I get REJECTED!! Does wonders for the self esteem lemme tell ya!
I know, I am way too hard on myself, but still...

Ok, so I went to this interview with this hospital that I REALLY REALLY REALLY want a job with. I have been applying there for eons. Anyway, a patient financial rep position came up that is per diem (only drawback, but OK I guess during school, especially if they have tuition reimbursement!}( ) I went and interviewed, all seemed to go super. I spent 2 hours writing 2 thank you letters. Within 48 hours I got a call back to say that the manager I interviewed with had selected someone else but wanted to refer me to the same job in another dept (ER). He put in a good work to that manager.

BUT.......the HR lady called me just to say my app and "good word" was now out there with this other manager and that the position closes (they stop taking apps) Monday, so I should hear by Thursday........but only to come in for ANOTHER INTERVIEW!! Uggghh. I mean, I'll do it, but how sucky. It is like I have to start all over. Plus, they are keeping the position open to get more applicants so it is not like they just shut it down for me! She said I interviewed well and they want to refer me to this job.......but all I did was get put in that applicant pool. I STILL have NO JOB.

I just want this so bad! It pays more than I thought and in the ER I would get to work around all different medical personel. Great experience!

Big Question........when I interview again it will be with a different manager but the same HR lady I guess. Is it OK to wear the same suit?? I shelled out big $$ for this thing at Petite Sophisticate and have nothing else. Do I have to go shopping now........again??? I have no money!! Please tell me I don't! Or will it look bad if I wear the exact same outfit??

Any other tips on how to secure this job? I asked her when I should contact her again if I did not hear from anyone and she said by next Thursday, but I don't know what else I can do at this point. I am so afraid I will blow it with the other manager. She said I interviewed good and that I was totally qualified for the job, so why am I NOT GETTING THE JOB? Do you think it is just because it is a different manager??

Sorry for the rant. Thanks!!;)

Oh, Janice! sending hugs to you!!! I know that something great is going to happen for you soon, so just hang in there!!! The reason that she went with someone else could be because of experience or this particular person had a specific skill that was needed for that position. Don't feel discouraged! It will all work out! :)

As far as your outfit....hmmm. If I was hiring for a hospital (would you be wearing scrubs?) I honestly don't think I would pay much attention to what you were wearing: neatness and hygeine yes, but to be honest I am not really sure that I would notice if you were wearing the same outfit. someone else will have much better advice.

As far as any other tips, just be yourself. Be honest and calm. You will do fine!!!

sending more hugs!!!

Thanks Missy so much for the encouragement. Actually, I am pretty confident that the only reason he passed me up was because I have school on Friday and am unavailable. He mentioned that Friday was one of his busiest days. I was wondering why he kept talking about this ER position so much to me......saying it would give me more experience, more hours...blah, blah. I think he wanted to hire me but knew that the other guy, who likely was available 24/7 (who isn't if you are applying for a per-diem position?), was available Fridays. He told me he only had two applicants and that the lady from HR wanted him to take more apps before he decided. Grrrr. But he decided. Atleast he put in a good word for me. As disappointed as I am, this has got to be the most positive thing that has happened for me in a while! LOL!

My school schedule is why it is so hard for me to get a job, too. I go to school ALL DAY Fri and Sat, so retail jobs are out (Costco wanted to hire me too if only I was available Sat, LOL). I wonder if the ER position may be out too being that I will be going to school FRI and SAT. Well, I'll be there though! My clinicals are at the same facility!

If I don't get this job, I don't know how much more of this I can take!!! I mean, whatdya gotta do, carwheels and spin on your head??? LOL

Anyone else got advice on the same outfit???? :D

ETA: I did pass my finals!!! Yeah!! I have almost all A's! That is positive! Now all I have is clinicals for the rest of Block 1. So, if I can survive one more block, at least I can be a LPN!! :D

Hey Janice! Well, it does sound like this ER interview is a great possibility -- both that they're interested in you, AND it would be excellent experience. You'd get to see so many things! I will cross my fingers that you've gone through all of this mess because this is the right job for you; maybe it's "meant to be." I hope your interview goes very well! As far as wearing the same suit, can you change it a bit with a different shirt underneath, maybe different accessories? As long as you look neat and "together" (and I'm sure you will!), you'll make the impression you want to!

I hope classes are going well for you! I've just made it through a tough midterm stretch...but I'm having a pretty good time!

Good luck with this next step, and keep us posted!

Congrats Janice! that is great news about your grades!! that is VERY positive news:D in regards to your outfit question, i wouldn't worry about wearing the exact same one. like you said, it's a different manager and even if it was the same one, suits are fairly generic. i doubt anyone will notice. like the above poster mentioned, looking kempt and professional are the key issues in the "appearance" catagory;-) best of luck and keep us posted please:D

Janice, just wear a different color blouse. That should work. What color did you wear last time?

As far as the job is concerned, it sounds like an admitting (registration) person am I right? Did you tell these managers you were going to nursing school? That may or may not be a drawback. Once you finish school, you would leave their department. Have you looked for patient care technician positions on the floors? I know you've covered this before but I don't remember the answer.

I also encourage you to put more applications out there in different areas of the hospital that does not require liscensure. Good luck to you girlfriend.

I seriously doubt they are going to notice that you are wearing the same thing. I want to be a paramedic, the only thing I don't think I can handle is the calls for kids.:-( Are you applying at Banner Baywood? My friend said they were hiring.

Just wanted to widh you good luck Janice and tell you there is no problem with wearing the same suit. Keep us posted.

Janice, wear the same suit. They'll never notice. And please don't beat yourself up about not getting a job. When it's the "right" one, you will get it. I'm one of those people who believe things happen for a reason. There's a lesson to learn. Our task is to figure out what that lesson is and learn it, otherwise we keep repeating the same behaviors over and over again until we do. Jobs are no different, IMHO. Some are not "right" and we may not ever know why, but I believe we must simply have faith that there *was* a reason why it was not right for us, and just move on to the next one.

Best of luck to you!!

Thank you everyone for your support. Wanted to say that I did wear the exact same outfit and I GOT THE JOB!!! :) :D :) :D

It is "pool" but I have the opportunity to work O/C if I want to. It pays more than my old job(!), but I won't be working full time, of course. They said no gaurantee of hours and no bennies. No gaurantee of hours sucks but they said that usually you get plenty because of call ins or scheduled vacations. O/C I think I get $3 an hour just for being on call even if they do not call me in. I *THINK* if I get called in I get time and a half. Not sure, I will find out Monday, that is my orientation!!!

After a horrid first couple of weeks in clinicals, this is a blessing!Atleast now I won't have to worry so much about money! They also said that if i do a good job I can possibly go PT or FT very soon. Cool.........and that also means TUITION REIMBURSEMENT!:p

This is a cool job that is close to what I was doing before in medical claims, but it is in the ER so I will get to see all kinds of things relative to Nursing. Should be a great experience! And very flexible so I can't complain! It is at the same facility I am doing my nursing clinical rotation at.

Anyway............THANK ALL FOR ROOTING FOR ME!!! I MADE IT!!!! NO MORE INTERVIEWS!!!:D

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am never as low as I am when on a job hunt. They suck! Way to make it through your search and come out with a success!!! Have fun at orientation. :)

Thank you everyone for your well wishes. I needed a good thing to come my way!! I will keep you updated!;-)

Janice, there's a lesson to be learned from EVERYTHING, even rejection. Someone is going to realize that you hae just a little more of the right stuff for the right job and snap you up, girl. Keep looking and know it's out there and you'll find the right one if you seek it! Someone is gong to see the gifts you possess which are so obvious to us here in Catheland. Go, Janice, go! :)
