What do you suggest...?

Hello! :)

Any suggestions for a newbie to Cathe's workouts?

I have been doing Power 90, Karen Voight, Yoga for Inflexible People and Reebok Step for a few weeks consistently and I really feel the need to take it up a notch or two. A friend had suggested the FitPrime Strong Bear and as I was checking out that site, I came across Cathe's. I checked out the clips and was thinking these look like what I want and need, but where do I start...?

I am ready to give away these 40 pounds and get tight and toned, oh, yeah!!!!!!

Thankyou!!

Susann,

Where to start with Cathe's videos is always an interesting question around here.

It sounds like you have some level of experience, but oftentimes it is recommended that a Cathe newbie start out with the Wedding Video. It combines a step portion for the first half and then a weight training portion at the end. It will give you a good idea of Cathe's style, personality, and training techniques.

If I'm not mistaken Power 90 includes weight training. I would definitely recommend that you get at least one of Cathe's weight training videos if you are looking to lose weight. I would recommend Maximum Intensity Strength or the Pure Strength Series. They are both excellent and will help you build lean muscle mass to rev up your metabolism.

I'm sure others will have some different suggestions for you. In the interim, you may want to post a little more information about what your current level of experience is, your goals other than weight loss, what equipment you have, and what type of choreography you prefer so that we can help you better reach your goals.

Good luck.

Linda

Hi newbie! I'm a newbie too. I have been doing Cathe workouts for about 3 months now. I do want to let you know that I thought about getting the older videos first, but found that I really wanted the music and intensity of her newer workouts. I just went for it and bought what I wanted. I worked really hard to learn the coreography. I would preview the workout at least once or twice and try a couple of the tricker moves. I would of course rewind and do over and over until I learned. I'm glad that I bought the workouts I really wanted, because now I'm not tired of them. I find that some of the older ones, I just didn't enjoy as much as her newer workouts. I felt like I would really have a lot to work toward and I would not get as bored of the workout if I had to work hard to get the moves down. It all depends on what you want. I never found myself to be that coordinated when taking classes at the gym, but in your own home, you know what is coming with each workout and with practice and time you will improve. Don't get me wrong - All Cathe's workouts are great. Be warned you will probably go Cathe buying crazy once you start. I know that I did. I now own at least 19 of her workouts and I can't wait for her new releases to come out. There are many others who are much more knowledgeable than I and I'm sure they will help you a lot. Just keep in mind that you will have these workouts forever so get the ones you really think you will enjoy the most and have fun! :7

Thankyou, Linda and gogigi!

I am trying to get back into the groove after battling with my uterus this past year and two. Now, that I am able to get back to my 'normal' way of life, I want to shed this extra weight and get my body into tip top shape.
My cardio intensity is medium, I'd say with the length being 45 minutes tops on my alternate days. Strength and weight that I do with Power 90 is every other...lifting 8-10-12 pound dumbells. I am working out 6 days with 1 day off. I guess, I feel the need to shake things up! hahaaaa I have many, many excercise DVD's and videos, tho go back to the ones that really make me work up a sweat, ie...90, Voight...Miller. I, also find myself very tight and incorporate yoga to help me stretch and breathe.
Am working on my eating as I need to keep it as whole and as unprocessed as possible. have been a bit lenient lately.

I have been eyeballing the Bootcamp and Muscle Endurance series.....tho a good cardio step would be fun, fun.

May I ask, where did you purchase your 14 inch step?

Anyways, thankyou again......off to 'try' and narrow down my selections...... :7

Be blessed,
Susann

Hi Susann and welcome, If your thinking of getting bootcamp then you are up for a real challenge. It is fun! I got my step at Sports Authority. One of my favorite is the Pyramid. That one is all dumbells for the upper body and you use a barbell with your lower body, but sometimes I use my dumbells instead because of all the weight changing. I started out with Cathe's Volume 1 classic step and it really help me to get to know who she is and what kind of moves she uses. Now I can do all, well most of her videos like Imax, Step Interval, and ect. Well good luck on your goal;-).

Hi Barbara and thankyou!!! :)

I am thinking I may just have to bite the bullet and purchase the Intensity series....all of them! Tho, I definitely like the suggests to buy one and get familiar with her style....sigh...they all look so good and my wee mind is trying to soak it all up. Like a kid in a candystore. hahahaa

Again, thankyou!!

Be blessed,
Susann

Hi Susann,

If you are feeling enticed by Bootcamp and Muscle Endurance, I say go for it. It does sound as if you have enough experience to use those videos. Neither one of them has difficult choreography (save that for Rhythmic Step)!

Oh, for a 14-inch step, I use my Original Step with extra risers underneath that I purchased from Spri Products online. (www.spriproducts.com).

The new videos are fun and challenging. The older ones are good too though. You really just can't go wrong with whatever you choose.

Let us know what you decide. Good luck!

Linda

I would buy the intensity series if you could. It is a total blast, and would include the terminator too (part of the series, but just on DVD)
