I am curious what everyone does when they are stressed or having a bad day? I have a hard time working out because of the knees, even though they are almost pain free but when I workout they tend to ache after.
I workout, I go power walking in the sunsshine, I listen to books on tape wwhile cleaning the house and that spaces out my mind beautifully. Or i curl up for the day and just read.
Sometimes I cry. It's my body's way of releasing pent-up frustration. I've also noticed that I will kick my energy level up a couple of notches when things start piling up. I start "doing everything" so I don't get behind. Another thing I do when I presented with a stressful problem is talk, even if I'm just talking to myself. Talking about something really helps me figure out what the problem is and helps me put my thoughts together on how to fix it. Talking also allows me to get it out of my system so it no longer stresses me.
This is really satisfying, but best performed in private - BIG, heavy sighs, running my hands through my hair, saying ``Oh, woe is me'' just like the women did in the movie ``My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding.'' This usually makes me realize how ridiculous I'm being and I start to giggle.
If I'm really stressed, I like to drive my car in the country. If it's a nice day, I like to walk in the woods or go for a bike ride. Actually, all 3 of those things kind of rely on it being a nice sunny day. Driving in the dark or in the bad weather doesn't help.
If I can't do any of the above, I just need to be alone for a few minutes to recollect myself. Unfortunately, my daughter doesn't like to hang out with her father as much as with me...so...I don't get to do the alone thing very often.
Thank you all, I am in therapy for bulemia with laxatives and anorexia. I use the laxies when I am so stressed out and need to learn new ways to cope with stressers in my life, yes I am in therapy right now. and seeing a nutritionist and a doctor. I am hoping to be on the road to recovery soon! thanks for some great ideas all
Used to go for a bike ride through a really beautiful nature preserve and up this incredible, gut-busting hill on a dirt road. Now I live in the concrete, so I just go for a walk, even in the rain. I find that just being outdoors in the air helps. Swimming helps a lot too--having your head under the water muffles out all the sounds and is amazingly peacful. Also, calling a friend and venting. Venting to friends in emails. Writing in my journal--that's kept me sane more times than I can count. Finally, knitting also helps me--keeps my hands busy and my mind occupied, especially when I mess up, which I usually do! Good luck--hang in there. You can do it.
