What beginner video is best???

Hi there. I think I am going to buy a Cathe DVD or 2 for a friend for Christmas. What beginner video(s) do you think are best? My friend is in average shape, has quite a bit of fat to lose and could also use some muscle strength and endurance work. She has dumbbells but no barbell and she also has a step.

It would be great to find a tape for her that she can work her way up to. One that will satisfy her easy needs now and also challenge her later.

She use to do Tae Bo once in awhile before she had a baby (that is now 1 year old). She has been easing her way back into cardio but is doing only a little. I don't think she is a cardio queen like some of us Cathe Crazies who have been doing it all our lives. However, she does enjoy a good workout and likes to sweat.

Any help you can provide will be much appreciated.

Thanks!!!!!!!

Hi Pammer:I would go with the Wedding Step video or Step Heat.I think they are very good for beginners. The pace is a little slower with both and you get 2 video for the price of one with the wedding tape.~Linda~

As far as strength, I would recommend Power Hour+ DVD for starters. I think MIS is a great video for beginners. It's a mixed between strength and endurance and can be split in 2 workouts... upper and lower body. She can modify the workout to do with dumbells only... I did that. If she is a beginners, she will gain strength from MIS or Power Hour.

What about CTX DVD? Do you all think that might be too hard?? She is very limited on time with a new baby but I am not sure if it might be too hard.

Right now she is doing Richard Simmons. She has also done Tae Bo in the past but isn't doing it right now.

Cheers,
Pam

I think the cardio in CTX is pretty hard. The choreography is complicated IMHO. It took me several hours to learn All Step while I did Rhythmic Step the first time I tried it. The choreography is from Cathe's earlier tapes and she assumes that everyone is familiar with it so she doesn't break it down. The intensity is also very high. I just came off of a CTX rotation and experienced some knee and shin pain. Every cardio portion has intervals. Even the easiest one (IMHO) Kickbox has those darn power scissors. Had CTX been my introduction to Cathe I probably would have gotten discouraged and given up. My first Cathe cardio tape was Step Heat which is shorter than many of her other tapes. I think it's available on DVD. I highly recommend it because it's not as intense or as complicated as her newer tapes and is a really good introduction to Cathe's choreography. After I mastered Step Heat, I haven't had any problems with any of Cathe's newer tapes.

If your friend prefers (or do not have time to do the whole workout) shorter workouts, she can always skip a section or two. With a DVD, it's a LOT easier than FF with a VHS tape.
