What are you reading now?

Fembot - I loved High Fidelity and really loved Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

When I recommended Mists of Avalon to a friend of mine she actually ended up calling in sick to work so she could stay home and read it straight through.

Must add Memory of Running by Ron McLarty(again with the sp?) Never wanted it to end.

Currently reading Mockingbird: A Portrait of Harper Lee by Charles Shields. I think my next endeavor will be to dust off my copy of Gravity's Rainbow and give it another go. Third time's a charm, right? :)

I could never come up with one favorite, but here are some that I was really taken by for one reason or another. It's a fairly eclectic list.

To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee
Love in the Time of Cholera - Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Reading Lolita in Tehran - Azar Nafisi
Stranger in a Strange Land - Robert A. Heinlein
Kitchen Confidential - Anthony Bourdain
The Good Earth - Pearl Buck
Santaland Diaries - David Sedaris

Currently reading Walt Disney by Neal Gabler.

My all-time favorite book is Jaws by Peter Benchley..this is for sentimental reasons...this book always reminds me of my summers as a child, and the fun I used to have with my father in the summer of 1975 when the movie came out.

Oh! How could I forget!?! Jamesland - Michele Huneven.

Now, someone, please, stop me before I post again!! I should be working.

Reading is definitely my thing. I tend to get a little silly about the fabulous books.

When I walk into the library the ladies say "Suzanne!" just like when Norm would walk into Cheers. That'll tell you something about how often I go! :p

I'm reading "The Count of Monte Cristo" and am LOVING it. I had no idea it had so much drama in it. It's kind of a hard read in places (and a lonnng book) but a good story! I find myself anxious to crawl in bed with it at the end of the day to see what the "count" is gonna do next. ;-)

<I find myself anxious to crawl in bed with it at the end of the day to see what the "count" is gonna do next.>

Oops! That sounds kinda naughty now that I reread it. my BAD!

I'm currently re-reading Harry Potter and am preparing to open book 5 this evening. I'm not sure what's on tap when I'm done with the series. I'm another Atwood fan. The Handmaiden's Tale was terrific. I actually liked the Blind Asassin, but it took me a while to get into. I recently read and enjoyed Ursula, Under, but someone I recommended it too isn't liking it much.

One of my all time favorites is The Shipping News by Annie Proulx. Also The Bean Tree by Barbara Kingsolver.

That would be LSAT prep books...more LSAT prep books...and for good measure, another LSAT book to keep things consistent!

ETA: I just bought "A Civil Action" by Jonathan Harr which I plan to read over Labor Day weekend! Finally...time to read something I have been wanting to read!

I'm reading the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. I'm loving this book. All of the incoming freshman at our college are reading it and they got extra copies for staff and instructors who wanted to read it so since it had a dog on the cover, albeit an upside down one, I figured what the heck. The author's narrator is a 15 year old autistic boy. I can't believe how much fun this book is to read. I can't wait to finish it but I don't want it to end.

I LOVED the Curious Incident! My son was first diagnosed as mildly Autistic when he was young, so I often read anything on the subject. For anyone with a loved one with a mental illness, this is a must read. It also has some humor in it but I also found it very sad.

Has anyone read Clan of the Cave Bear? I'm eager for an opinion on it. My list keeps growing.:)

I'm reading Blue at the Mizzen by Patrick O'Brian. It is the 20th book in a series. The movie Master and Commander was based on some of the earlier books in this series.

Favorite all time books are Persuasion, Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Gone With the Wind, Lonesome Dove, Outlander, The King's General, To Kill a Mockingbird and Jane Eyre.

In the Woods by Tana French. An intreaging mystery with fun characters. Can't wait until I have more time to just crash and read it this weekend!

oh, and my fav's...

I Know this Much is True and To Kill a Mockingbird. And in children's lit: Love that Dog (Sharon Creech).

Fun thread!

I LOVE Jasper Fforde's series!!!! I read his new one a few weeks ago and am planning on rereading the earlier ones, too. I kept laughing out loud and my husband started asking, "What happened to Thursday NOW?"

Let's see, I'm currently reading Gilead (Marilynne Robinson) and rereading Brave New World (teaching it again when school starts up).

Favorite book of all time . . . too many! Anything by Margaret Atwood (especially Alias Grace and Oryx & Crake), A.S. Byatt, Louise Erdrich - they're my current favorite authors.

:D

Suz, as one who works with children with autism, I can tell you that that book is very well-written. It is hard to imagine that the author is NOT autistic as the writing so perfectly mimics a person with autism's manner of logic and speaking.

Loved that book!

>I recently read and enjoyed
>Ursula, Under, but someone I recommended it too isn't liking
>it much.

ROTFLMAO!! But I'm gonna finish it, by golly!! I don't hate it, it's just not my cup of tea, although parts of it are riveting.

My fave book? That's nearly impossible to answer. Who doesn't love To Kill a Mockingbird? I was thinking about reading it again, I love it so much. I love biographies and 19th c English and American literature, as well as books on Christianity.

If I were to borrow a book from someone in this thread today, I would choose something from Beth's (beeg123) library ;)

Suz - I read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and it actually made me angry. Once I realized what was going on I was fuming mad about it. I'll be interested to hear your impressions once you finish the book.

The Bourne series.
Leslie Sansone's walking book, the walking/faith/new one.
the Bible.
You on a Diet.
You the owners manual.

I think I may have some problems. :)
