What are you eating?

So, in an effort to "eat clean," though I'm not entirely sure what it means, I am hoping to be inspired by you all. What do you eat? What is your favorite "clean" and healthy three meals a day? And, are protein bars bad for you?

>Currently, I'm NOT eating chocolate chip cookies.:( ;-)

BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Robin, when I saw that you had responded to this post, I just KNEW that you were going to post that you weren't eating cookies!!! :7 I know you too well!

Come on over to my house later - I have some cc cookies to share with you! :9

To answer the original question... here's a sample of what I might eat in a day:

B - cereal (something whole grain, high fiber and moderate protein), soy milk and a banana
S - plain yogurt with granola
L - leftovers from the previous night's dinner
S - baby carrots and string cheese
D - whole wheat penne tossed with sauteed fresh veggies

As for protein bars... they probably aren'd BAD for you if you just have then once in a while. I wouldn't eat them every day, but that's just me. They're highly processed, and I try to stay away from highly processed foods (except for cookies :p )

Well, as many around here know, I'm the Big Salad Woman From Brooklyn. :+ As far as I'm concerned, the best invention of the century was a little thing called Newman's Lite Balsamic Vinegrette salad dressing. If Newman ever stops making that stuff, just look for me up on the Brooklyn Bridge, very close to the edge. :+ :p

Nancy,
Have you tried Newman's Light Sesame dressing? It sort of has the balsalmic flavoe with a little asian flavor in it. It is great!

Stephanie, on the serious side, go check out the Clean and Tidy thread under the Check-in and Challenge forums. There are lots of ideas and great support there.

Woe is me, Emily can read me like a book. Next time I'll post that I'm not eating vegimite. Or olives. Yuck!

Your right! My DD and I LOVE that dressing!!!!!

Catherine I swear, no kidding: the lite balsamic vinegrette tastes better than the regular balsamic vinegrette!

And Fach, 4 tablespoons go a long way and have only 100 calories. So I can make (okay, buy :p ) a huge salad and the dressing is never more than a hundred calories. And it is certifed "clean" by my nutritionist!

Ooooh - the light sesame ginger dressing is my favorite . . . I also use it in combination with mustard and honey (heat it up in a sauce pan) as a sauce to go over grilled salmon - wonderful!

Hey Robin, Thanks! I'm still trying to find that forum... I'll definitely have to try that Newman's dressing, Nancy. I love balsamic vinegarette-- and I love Newman brand because he donates proceeds to charity. Right now my current favorite dressing is Ken's Steakhouse Lite Olive Oil Vinegarette.

I've also become a big fan of cous cous lately, so if anyone has any cous cous recipes (i.e. creative add-ins, etc.) please tell.

Stephanie, instead of clicking on Open Discussion on the Ask Cathe page, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Check-ins and Challenges. It will open a whole new world for you.

I won't mention my two non-clean late night snacks but the rest of my day is pretty good (not perfect!):

B: 1 cup Kashi Go-Lean Crunch w/ 1/2 cup fat free plain yogurt
S1: Banana
L: Light Tuna, 1 tbsp light mayo, 2 slices whole wheat bread & granny smith apple OR turkey breast, 2% cheese and mustard on whole wheat with baby carrots.
S2: piece of fruit (another apple, peach, sometimes just mixed berries if they are in season)
S3: Kashi granola bar (post workout)
D: Grilled chicken breast, steamed broccoli & carrots, green beans OR home-made spaghetti sauce (4% fat beef) with no noodles with 2 slices whole wheat bread (I eat it like a manwich) with green beans.

Found it! Thanks, Robin! I know they aren't probably considered "clean" but has anyone tried the Fiber One Oats and Chocolate bars? They have a ton of fiber in them (9g per bar) and are SOOOOOOOOOO good. Robin, forget chocolate chip cookies, these things rock!

I have and ulterior motive (is it ulterior or alterier? asks the writer) for this thread too. I wanted to bump the ghost thread down. Why is that still going????

I don't think protein bars et al are neccesarily bad. All things in moderation (except chocolate, of course.) But they probably aren't really clean either. I've never been able to do the really clean thing. Life always gets in the way. (Is the ghost gone yet?)
