We're In This Together ~~MAY~~

Hello ladies!

Today was Barefoot Cardio by Ellen Barrett. You just can NOT beat that woman for active recovery! I always feel so good and stretchy after one of her workouts! Not much for calorie burn like Cathe, but I really feel like her stuff complements Cathe well. At least for me:p! I also did yoga yesterday morning and one of my pilates dvds last night. It's so nice to do these dvds again! I haven't done some of them in almost 2 years! I'm really missing Cathe though!!! I'm thinking Saturday will be Afterburn!

I'm sorry about your mom's cousin and the difficulties with Bella Natty. Like Jen said, it does get better! I had the toughest time with my kids between 2 and 4 years old. They say the terrible twos, but actually I swear it's much worse at 3! Lydia is almost 5 and she is just finally growing out of some of that crying, whining, can't control their emotions or express them so they are destructive stuff. Just remember, this too shall pass!!;)

Sarah- way to go on Step Blast! I don't know if I recall that about holding the bar in the center for those deadlifts, I'll have to try that.

Good luck with your friend and the drinks Jen!:D

Have a good night ladies!

Sorry, I forgot to post yesterday.

I'm sorry for your mom's loss, and I hope it will be nice to get together and see family even under sad times.
For me when the girls were 2, and I was pregs with TJ was the worst year of my life. It might of had something to do with selling our house, moving in with my inlaws for 6 months, and vomitting all the time (even on my hubby, poor guy).

I used to have pilates DVD's by that really popular lady but I can't remember her name. That is one thing I got rid of. Although I think I remember liking the abs one.

I hope you have a good road trip Jen. I love road trips but am not good company, I fall asleep easily. Are you going to be helping your parents move this weekend also?

Yesterday was 4DS kickbox w/ leg drills afterwards. I'm feeling very sore in my hip flexers as I did Ab ripper on WED. Today is 4DS Bootcamp with Bi's and Tri's. The kids are going to Sisters, Oregon with my treehouse friend for a couple of days for fishing fun. Yippee

Sarah

Happy, it's Friday!! Per my discussion on OD, I have created a new blog that pertains to my life right now. Many of my Linked In connections are in the same place as I.
Attempting to turn something bad into good, although I didn't think I was on the long-term plan. I know there is a reason for it.

Have a GREAT weekend!! Hoping to do some workout tonight after I pig out at lunch.

Hi everyone :)

Today's day was.....well you know.....as good as a funeral viewing can be. The flowers I ordered on-line arrived at the home on time and beautifully arranged. I was hoping it would be a closed casket (and it was), as I find it sort of morbid to see a dead body on display. It provides loved ones closure I suppose. Thank you for all the kind sympathetic words.

Yesterday's w/o was D12 (legs). Today I have serious CSOTT DOMS . That 5% increase plus the killer bonus stability ball leg conditioning drill just fried me . I have come to the conclusion, I suck at leg lifts. Seriously WTH?! Can any of you do all those 1 leg hamstring roll-in's??? Please tell me they ARE hard and I'm not that wussy......please.

Sarah
I told you Step Blast rocks!! I'm glad you did it :D.
Sorry to hear about that rough year. It's bad enough to be pregnant and hormonal and then having to deal with all that stressful crap.
Have a great w/e without the kids ;) :). I'm officially jealous.
Jen
How was the drink with your friend? I hope it went well ;).
They say in life, everything happens for a reason. I hate to believe we have to go through extremely difficult crap to learn that "lesson", but it's usually the case. Hang tight! You've been very strong and positive :).
Colleen
Thanks for shedding some light into my dark tunnel. Bella never went through the terrible 2's, so I guess it's past due. 'Tis the joy of parenthood .
I'm thinking of doing lots of Yoga during active recovery. You're right, it's nice to have that balance.

Good night everyone :)

Jen - I love your idea of turning a neg. into a positive and doing the blog. Way to think outside the box again.

I love in 30/30 the tuck jumps and Cathe says let see you teeth (something like that) it always makes me work harder with a stank face : )

My husband and I went to REI and the guy that helped us had just moved to Portland 10 days ago from AA. I thought of you. He was kinda cute in a hippie dippie way.

Nat - Good for CSOTT dOMS! I hope everything is going okay with your family and that you are making time for STS completion of Meso 1. Awesome.

Colleen- I'm sure your plenty busy this weekend fitting in "Lots O yoga" and some good food and family time this holiday weekend.

Yesterday I didn't do bootcamp and bi's and tris. I did do 50 min on the treadmill and ab ripper. Went to dinner with my hubby and couldn't decide which dessert to order so I ordered 2 and ate both. : )

Today was Zumba with my cousin whom is visiting from Portland and a 3 mile walk on an old logging road with a friend. My friend also took me out for my birthday dinner. Then I came home and helped my cousin make Tacos Al Pastor which were delicious with brown spanish rice and shaker lemon pie for dessert. Too much food this weekend. But oh so worth it. Work hard, Play hard, so I can eat hard.

Sarah

Good morning :)

Hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend :)

Yesterday's w/o was D11 (back & tri's). DONE M1!!!! For some reason, I believe I might not have chosen my 1RM weights correctly for tri's. The weight I use is either too light, or too heavy where my elbows lock. I think using the weighted gloves for 1/2-1lbs increases is the key. TBH, I hate switching the weights in the gloves. It's hard to get those little sandbag suckers in/out.
For today's w/o, I'm going out with a bang with Imax3. Next week will be yoga, walking and trying to nail Rhythmic Step .

My aunt recently bought Bob Harper's new book, The Skinny Rules. As I was over her house, I had to take a little sneak peak. The few pages I read were REALLY good. I jotted down a recipe for banana-blueberry-protein pancakes and made them after my workout. YUMMY! :p.

Jen
Congrats on doing 30/30!!! It's my fav of the 3 hiit's
A local Timmies! You must be sooo happy :D. Ice Capps are tops for me in the summer. Get it with milk or chocolate milk to save calories and fat. If you wanna go all out, the one made with cream is :p. I like everything on the menu actually. The sandwiches are very tasty. In the winter, you can't beat the chili in a bread bowl. All the donuts, pastries, muffins, cakes, Tim Bits, bagels, ect are very good. The coffee quality is getting better again (remember I complained about it awhile back?). You can't go wrong there, my only grip is the price. A combo w/sandwich, donut and coffee can set you back $8.00 here . But of course it's a healthier alternative to McDonalds and it's not as expensive as Starbucks.
Sarah
I hope you are enjoying your w/e without the kids. A much deserved break for you and your DH that's for sure! Again, I'm jealous!!
Your tacos and pie sounded yummy :p. You've been so good with your workouts/eating and deserve a splurge this holiday weekend.

Enjoy your weekend ladies :D

Hello Everyone.
Posting to my blog, which I have to be commited before I get advertisers plus I am getting ready to promote it on YouTube. It is for those in transition over 40 all over the US. GOD answered prayer, doing things what I love to build connections maybe a career.
Natty-LOVE Tim Hortons. Yesterday, I had the chicken tucson and some timbits with tea. Thanks for the heads up on the Capps, I plan to get one. It's way cheaper than Panera Bread too and much of the same menu plus closer to my home.
Sarah-Love brown spanish rice, your dinner sounds delish once again. Zumba??? Did you like it? Many friends, thats the only workout they do.

Tomorrow, a Holiday here but I plan to job hunt and to do some blogging. Figure out my laptop video to use later. Tuesday, I will be with my Mom. Wednesday, asking for another deferrment for my student loans. : (.

Happy Memorial Day!

Yesterday's w/o was Imax3 intervals 1-6 + Imax2 intervals 7-10. I wanted to change it up a bit . What I failed to realize is that I had just completed those horrid plie jacks in Imax3 and had to do them again in Imax2. What the [insert swear word] was I thinking??? That has got to be the hardest cardio move for me EVER! At least I went out with a bang before active recovery.

Yesterday we also headed over to our new leisure center. Holy impressive! 2 NHL sized skating rinks, Olympic sized pool, kiddie pool, water slide, gym w/running track, weight room, basket ball court. Bella and her daddy went swimming. I watched some kids play hockey, which was really cool. It's so wonderful to see the community being so active. I also took a peak into the weight room just to check out the action ;). They have several fitness classes I can join, but I'm on the fence about that.

Jen
Good luck with your blog. It's nice to have that connection with people, very therapeutic. I believe that's why so many of us reach for blogs and forums. In the midst of all the crazy, hectic and stressful times in our lives, it's reassuring to put thoughts into words and connect with others who share the same common denominator. Without you guys to share my Cathe journey, I think a part of me would be lost.

Have a rockin' day ladies :)

Happy Memorial Day!! Hope you all enjoy this crazy heat. Tonight is week 4, disc one, cycle one.
Last night, I broke down and ordered pizza from Papa John's. When I do take out, I try to get stuff that lasts for more than one meal like Chinese.

Natty-IMAX 2 and 3!!!! yes, I would be cursing too. OMG. Take a recovery day today.
With 3, intervals 3 or 5 or 4 and 6 are crazy hard then the last intervals of 2!!! I think its a requirement to have NHL rinks in Toronto, right? It is in Detroit. Hockey reigns.
Sounds like a beautiful facility. Yes, I would be on the fence too on the classes BUT they may not be challenging for you. Talk to the instructors if you can. Here, there are very few advanced classes because of insurance liability plus hard to fill them up. Good for change of pace and active recovery.

Blogging. It is therapeutic and gives me some purpose. My posts are hitting Twitter and Linked In so they are given exposure. My goal for it is to discuss unemployment and find emotional support.
Yes, I feel the same way, I would be lost without the forums here. A few years ago, I mentoned my Dad's situation with cancer. A person recommeneded he get a dietician and it solved the problem. Very grateful for that and the support now.

Happy Memorial Day ladies!

Sorry I haven't posted much this weekend! It's crazy how it gets when I'm at home. We went out for dinner and drinks with our neighbors on Friday. My mom babysat the kids and we stayed out pretty late! Saturday was pretty mellow but it seemed I constantly had stuff to do around the house. Then yesterday we had people over with their kids to swim in our little pool, then later at night we ordered some pizza and had a fire.

Unfortunately, Mark's grandma is back in the hospital with the diverticulosis this weekend as well. We had to go down there to visit her. She seems to be doing a lot better this time, though. They really don't want to put her through another colonoscopy so they are just basically watching to see if the bleeding stops. It's such a delicate balance with her health because on the one hand she needs to be on coumadin to prevent a stroke (she's had several mini-strokes in the past) and yet it causes problems with the bleeding. It's pretty much a waiting game at this point.

Let's see...my workouts :D. Saturday I did Afterburn! It was awesome except at that point Mark had refused to turn the air on since it was not so hot out but it was VERY humid! I thought I was going to pass out trying to breathe with all the humidity in the air:mad:! I was not happy about that! I totally can't wait until the new workouts come! I have this plan where I want to alternate doing AB and To the Max one week, then CrossFire and AT the next, along with a lower body workout (like LBB or B&G), a total body strength workout and then something pure cardio. I think I may do that for a month or so after I finish the STS alternated with circuits/kettlebell.
Yesterday I did Kettlebell Kickboxing, then today I'm going to do another new workout I got recently called Extreme Calorie Burn. We'll see how I like it. I kind of went on a buying frenzy this past month . VF is a very dangerous and enabling place! It has introduced me to new and fun workouts I wouldn't have discovered otherwise, though!

I totally feel the same way as you guys about this forum. It is so nice to be able to share this stuff with you guys! I would totally feel isolated and alone with my home workouts otherwise! Between here and VF, this online community has really helped me stay focused on working out and eating well. Granted, sometimes I get annoyed with VF on the whole Cathe controversy. It's just a select group of VF'ers who post negative things so I just try and avoid those threads! Sometimes I'll jump in to balance out the conversation, though;).

Good luck with the blog, Jen! Have fun with recovery week Natty!

Have a great afternoon, ladies!!

Nat- I totally agree about the plie jacks. That must have been a killer WO.

Today was STS TB and I was sweating big time.

Yesterday for some reason, I was on a bake-a-thon, not good. I made Scrumptious Orange Bites (dates, pecans, toffee chips, orange zest sounds weird but was super good) I also made cardamom bread (I have a little love affair going on right now with cardamom), and peanut butter sandwhich cookies (like nutter butters except the filling was PB and honey). Everything was so good. I ate a slice of bread, 2 PB cookies, and 2 scrumptious orange bites. Then I gave the rest away : )

Sarah

Sarah- Do you need deliver? All of your baking sounds good.
Colleen- Hope Mark's Grandmother is doing better. I would be infuriated if someone turned off the AC on me. You are brave to workout in that humidity.
Yes, I cannot wait either. 12 premixes for each one plus actual workouts. Almost one months rotation there.

My intuition is telling me to back away from my 'friend' this week. Don't like being too available. Time for blogging, job hunting, STS, and etc. It feels good to be doing what I am passionate about. It didn't work the other way. Tomorrow, I spend the day with my Mom.

Good morning :)

Yesterday was a pretty lazy day. Went over to my aunts house so Bella could play in the sprinkler. Came home and did 30min of Rhythmic Step. I love some of the moves Cathe has in it. This week I promised myself to do some Yoga, so I'm dusting off TBL Weight Loss Yoga and Jillian Yoga Meltdown. Speaking of Jillian, did you guys know she has 2 kids now? I knew she was a bisexual, but I had no clue she was with a woman and that her partner was pregnant. It was very interesting to hear her discuss the journey. Here is the link if you guys are interested:

Sarah

Your baked goods sound pretty awesome. You should have a little business going and sell your yummy deliciousness.
Colleen
I'm so sorry to hear about Mark's grandmother. It's very sad to see loved ones suffer from medical conditions.
Your w/e sounded very lovely. Pizza and a fire, two thumbs up!
I can totally relate to working out in a hot, humid room. We have 2 air conditioners, 1 in the living room and 1 in the bedroom. The spare room (where I do my exercises) is barely cooled :(.
Your rotation idea's sound great. I can't wait to test drive the new workouts . AB and To The Max in 1 week??!!!! You crazy woman you!!!!
Jen
Have a great day with your mom today :)

Great day to all of you :)

Woke up late this morning. Felt like my brain was a fuzzy today. But I managed to do Intentsity, barely. As I did the plie jacks I thought of you Nat. I gave up on the last set.

You know how I thought I was PMS-ing. Well I never had a period this month. So I don't know whats up with that, cause I'm fixed.

One of these days I will get your address and mail you some baked goods Jen. I love baking I just dont want the stuff around bacause thats when I head down the slippery slope of eating everything.

My friend asked me today if I would be willing to watch her kids a few days a week this summer. I feel kind of guilty, but I told her I would for only 2 days a week. Does that sound like I'm being a bitch?

Hope you had a good day with your mom, Jen. I might have to get information from you about blogging. I have been thinking about that idea for awhile.

How good does it feel to be on a rest week, Nat? I haven't taken one for awhile and thinking I might push through till the week of July 14th when we go camping for a week. I'm half way through this rotation, and beginning to look into what will be next. Any ideas, oh master of rotations?

I'm sorry your husband was being stubborn about the AC. I ashamed to admit it but thats the way I am. My husband, on the other hand, will turn it on anything over 78. To say the least I am always cold in the summer. Hope Grandma's doing better.

Sarah

Good morning :)

Yesterday's w/o was walking and some park time w/Bella. The weather looked kinda' weird, like a storm was brewing, but it got sunny again in the evening. It's been nice not having to do weights. I thought I would be going crazy, but I've made peace with it. Oh ya, I got a very nice compliment from the hubby yesterday. He told me he was impressed with my arm muscles!!!! I was like
"  thanks! You noticed?". STS baby! Yeah! On the downside my boobs are shrinking :(. Not just because of STS, but anytime I lose weight, even only 1 or 2 lbs. I guess I'll have to take the smaller ones for a more toned physique :(.

Today's w/o is supposed to be Yoga.....hmmm......I really want to do some steady state cardio though .

Sarah
WHY ARE THOSE PLIE JACKS SOOOO HARD??!!
I don't think you are being a b**ch agreeing to 2 days. You have your own 3 kids to take care of!!! I hate to ask, but has she watched your kids often? My guess is no. Regardless, don't feel guilty. Take care of yourself and your family first.
I was looking at the rotations for ya ;) (I don't mind, it's fun to see what Cathe has put together all these years). What is your goal? Do you want more UB muscle def? Fat loss? Overall LB/UB toning? Shorter workouts for the summer? A lot of my ladies from the the other check-in are bringing back some of the oldies like Pure Strength and Slow & Heavy. Perhaps you can alternate weeks with those 2, adding in your own selected cardio. I'm sure Cathe will put together a rotation for the new workouts coming out too .

Have a great day ladies :)

Happy Wednesday!

Today I did Athletic Training. It's funny because I just realized today that the last several times I did that one I wound up choosing the leg cardio express premix. I haven't done the whole workout since probably December. I forgot how good the upper body was in that one and the fact that there is even core work at the end! Good stuff! I like how well rounded that workout is. I really need to do the whole thing more often!

Grandma is back home again.:) It's such a tough balance between her need for the coumadin (to prevent stroke, she's had several mini ones) and the GI bleeding from the diverticulosis. I'm not sure they knew what they were going to do exactly if the bleeding hadn't stopped. Hopefully it'll be okay for awhile at least.

Natty- it's tough to decide between cardio and yoga on the recovery week! Do you have time to do a little of both? Maybe you could do some moderate cardio earlier in the day and a little yoga at night. Man, if I had time I'd totally workout like that twice a day. I love all my dvds so much I wish I had time to do all of them more! How awesome your hubby complimented your arms! Whoo hoo! That's too bad about the chest area shrinking though! I actually don't mind that mine shrunk after I breastfed the kids. I actually kind of welcomed it since I was always so self-conscious about having D cups before (now I'm more of a B cup). The one thing I could do without though is the droop!:( That's always a sad moment in the mirror!

Sarah- that's odd you didn't get your period this month...hmmm...are you sure your fixed? You always hear those crazy stories about people getting pregnant even after vasectomies and tubal ligation if the procedure wasn't done exactly right. You never know...(!) Also, I would not feel guilty for only committing to a few days a week. I tend to be careful about that stuff. I used to be the kind of person people could easily take advantage of but I've toughened up quite a bit in the past 10-15 years ;).

Oh and the plie jacks! I love those things! Ha! I'm so weird. For some reason regular jumping jacks, air jacks and of course tuck jumps make all the joints in my body feel like they are coming apart, but when I do plie jacks I can control the landing so much better. Now if I'm doing like a hundred in a row...yeah, I'd quit early! lol

Jen- how was the day with your mom? How's the blogging going?

Ellie how are you doing?

We seemed to have lost a few people...Nikki, Natalie, wasn't there one other person too?

Hello Friends.
How are you?
Colleen-AT is a great workout. one of my faves from that series. Good to know Grandma is back home again.
Sarah-Yes, I will send you my address sometime. I don't buy sweets at the supermarket because I cannot have them here nor do I bake. Rice Krispie treats 90 calories is my sweet with rasberry white tea. No period-could be lots of reasons.
Natty-Smaller chest means less gravity pull downwards. Myself, I have a smaller chest but I am in proportion to the rest of my body cause I short and small bone structure.
Yes, crazy weather here too. 90 degrees over the Holiday now maybe 65. Frost warnings north of here too. Ready for Cycle 2? Time for weight increase.

Ok. DFW is on hold till September. Don't need to be there with 100plus degrees although I would be living within a few miles of Lake Ft. Worth. My parents want to help but it's not a good time. We agreed to look back into it in September.
The blog. Thru Twitter and Linked in, I have been getting exposure. My former internship host company is interested in me managing part of her business. Time will tell. I got her attention from my blogging. My goal is to encourage others in the same spot. Plus, to notify decision makers as well on this continuing problem. Corporations and government are my goals to keep the conversation going. My next blog will be Home Fitness for Over Fifty. During interviews, a few asked me what I really wanted to do. If I was truthful, it would've been this. My myer-briggs personality test resulted as a caregiver plus writing is fun plus I have a subject I am passionate about.

Yes, I haven't seen Natalie, Nikki or Amy here lately.

Hoping to be brave and try an Ice Capp from Timmies soon.

Good morning :)

Yesterday was a very nice day. It was my anniversary (lol I almost forgot ) and I got surprised with a huge bouquet of assorted flowers. I'm not a huge fan of flowers TBH, and Mark rarely gets them for me, so it was very unexpected. A beautiful gesture which indeed made me smile. Is it bad that I was actually thinking I would have much rather been surprised with a Cathe gift certificate? I mean, flowers die, and I get much more satisfaction from a set of weights. I'm so bad .

My workout yesterday was a 2 mile walk + step only premix from SJP (26min). Cathe's oldies always make me :).

As far as Nikki, Natalie and Amy joining the group and then MIA, it happens often unfortunately :(. It happened at my other check-in too numerous times.

Jen
I'm happy to hear your blogging is going well. I have a friend that was blogging for years, she had tons of followers, lots of sponsors, and then she decided it was time to take a break :(. Do you find there is too much pressure amongst bloggers sometimes?
It's very nice that your parents want to help/support you.
Try the Ice Capp!!! I must warn you though, if you take it outside in very hot weather, it becomes an iced latte .
Colleen
Out of the entire LIS, AT, CSS and TB tops my list. I was thinking of doing the 3 month LIS/STS rotation once I finish this one, but include To The Max and Crossfire . OMG I hope Cathe comes out with a rotation that includes her newest and STS!!! I'd be on it like white on rice!!!
To answer your question, I do not have time to do 2 workouts in 1 day...although I would love to :(. My dream would be to start biking again but through various trails in Canada. I'm also thinking of going to my new rec center and get in some leisurely skating time. I'm Canadian, it's in my blood.

Have a great day ladies :)
