HI everybody,Good Morning!

I went to my second WW meeting last night, and I didn't lose but gained .2!I was almost in tears,(did cry when I got home)I feel like what the hell is wrong with me,why can't my stubborn body let go of this fat(plateua for about 5mths).I did talk to a lady who told me to not eat any flex points,no activity points. I get 32pts a day so I hope its enough to maintain my energy for Cathe's workouts. She also said,no eating after 7pm,and to eat a lite supper(use most of my pts for breakfast and lunch)Anybody have any extra advice?Maybe something I'am overlooking!

Questions:
-Did anybody come into weight watchers with a plateua, hoping to break it,any luck?
-Is it "normal" to not lose the first week, but to gain?

I'm doing cathe's begginer rotation(my first week)!

Amy

I posted this is check-inns also!

This is only my thoughts...I think that after only your second meeting, and first WI, for her to say not too use any FP's, or AP's is a little extreme. I would use your AP's, and be very conservative with your FP's, and see how that works.

Hi Amy-

I'm sorry to hear you had a tough time of it yesterday. Don't get discouraged, if you following your point schedule, its working, really!

There are lots of reasons, why you might have gained... if you had a salty meal the day before, hormones, even a hard workout will make you retain water that will show up as "weight" on the scale.

If you don't think its any of the above, have you tried zig zagging your points? Maybe do less one day and more the next? Sometimes at a plateau, our bodies are so used to the same caloric intake it just burns fuel accordingly.

If you are working out, then I agree that you don't want to decrease your points yet.. give it a little more time before you try that.

Hang in there, Lynn M.

I agree with everything above.....STICK WITH IT! Journal everything and make sure you measure your stuff. Drink your water...that always gets me in trouble even on weeks that I eat squeaky clean!

HANG IN THERE!

Gayle

Thanks ladies
I'am gonna keep a "positive" attitude and just keep going,I did workout the day of the meeting, and the day before I used all my FP on chinese food!Maybe should stay away from that:7! For right now or at least this week,I'll stay at my target pts for the day,try not to use any of my flex points, and use activity if I feel I need them.

Maybe next monday I'll have better luck!

Thanks for the advice and encoragement!

Amy:)(or shall I sayx()

Hang in there! When I was in WW, I would lose one week and stay the same or gain a little the next. We actually had a meeting once that explained that everyone's pattern for losing was different and my "pattern" wasn't that unusual. The weeks when I did lose, it was usually 2 or 3 pounds.

Don't worry, you're going to do fine, I'm sure of it!

I would say the Chinese food probably did you in. Something like that would cause about 2 pounds gain, so you probably really lost. It will show next week. My advise is to really watch the salt intake a couple of days prior to weigh in. I never altered my work-outs for weigh in, but did watch that salt! If you have to have the salty stuff, celebrate after the WI!

Amy,

Have you tried to spread your meals 5-6 per day instead of 3, and eat every 2 or 3 hours. Spread it out some, you may not be as hungry when evening comes around.

Congratulations on doing Begginer's Rotation. That is fantastic! I've read losing calories by working out is far more better than losing calories by taking them out of your program.

If you decide this program is not for you, please don't give up or go on a splurge. Just pick another program. There are many out there. Curves, BFFM, Jenny.....

Being discouraged happens, but just hang in there anyway. I'm cheering for ya. Never give up, it will be OK.

The idea is to die young as late as possible.

We had a WW instuctor who said never eat chinese food or popcorn, or anything else really salty the day before a weigh in. I bet that's what did you in.

So Nice To Here Such Nice Encouragement!

Thanks sooo very much,I do feel better!

So,Zig Zagging my points, eat less one day and eat more the next.So on the days I eat less, should I carry the points I have left over to the next day?

Also, how much sodium is Alright!I did noticed last week I ate soup alot!(Cambells soup at hand)

I'll try it:)
Thanks agian

another thing, if you just started cathe workouts this week, your muscles might be retaining water. I also started the cathe beginners rotation last week and my weigh in was up 5 pounds! No way did I gain 5 pounds in a week!!! Keep the eating up and keep chugging your water. It will even out in a few weeks.

Very good suggestions.

I am confused by your post, if you have been doing WW for 5 months or for 2 weeks. If this is only your 2nd weigh in I don't think you have given it enough time to justify changing anything too drastically.

If you have been at WW for a while, and if you eat the bulk of your points at night, I would flip it and vice versa. Or eat foods different than what you are eating. MAKE SURE YOU DRINK THE WATER.

Make sure you are measuring your food. This is important in the beginning.

If you have only been at it for a few weeks, I suspect the sodium water retention, and workouts sometimes make me retain/temp retain weight.

Amy,
I think the WW program does work, but as others have said, you may find that one week you stay the same or even gain slightly and then another week - BAM! - you might drop 3-4 lbs. in one shot. The average when I did it was to lose about 1-2 per week. You've been given great advice - hang in there, and don't panic just yet! One thing I did find was that the activity points didn't seem to really give me enough for how intense I was working out, so I wouldn't listen to the WW person who told you to skip those. If you're working out, you need them. Follow the program as is - use the flex points as needed - and it *will* come off!!

Best of luck!
cathy :)

Weight fluctuates so much from day to day, and from time of day to time of day. Don't stress out about a mere .2 ! (Is that what you meant: 2/10ths of a pound?)

FYI: stress causes the release of cortisol, which can cause the body to hold on to fat (especially body fat) because it's interpreted as a threat.

You don't carry your leftover points over to the next day. The only thing that is flexible are your flex points. Also you're never supposed to have less than 20 points in a day.

As Jen said, measuring your food is very important, but not just in the beginning, always. When you guess on portion size it's easy to have the portions grow over time.

Good luck,
Amy

DON'T PANIC!

I did WW and it took a while for my body to adjust, especially when I started doing Cathe workouts. Some weeks I gained, some I lost and some stayed the same - even while eating the exact same things week to week (same menu for each Monday, etc, boring but it works for me)

Remember to drink plenty of water (I use lemons or limes to keep it interesting). Keep exercising. And measure and track your food very carefully (write then bite is my motto)

Hang in there - it gets better and easier. It's a process and it takes time - be patient.

We're all pulling for you! jasper

did you weigh in at the same time of the day, empty stomach vs full, vise versa? I always weighed in the same time of day, empty stomach, no popcorn the night before, and coffee an hour before. Oh, and always wear the same outfit. If I gained after all of that, then I took it as a true gain. I'm a two time veteran, I never wore my bathing suit under my clothes and stripped at the scale. But I did see a lot of people do that! Good luck, you'll do fine.

amy,

the advice here is amazing. i wish i had it all years ago when i went on ww. the plan works. just give yourself a pat on the back and go with it. i had the ups and downs and yet i lost over 40 pounds. went from a very tight 14 (probably should have been a 16) to a 6-8, and have maintained this size for almost 17 years.

stick with it. you sound like you are on the road to success!
