Weird: re: body types and sizes

Ok, I think this is really strange.

I'm 5"7, and currently wear a size 12. (got much to lose to get back to my pre-preg size 8)
My co-worker is 5"6, weighs as much as I do and wears an 18.
And my other co-worker is 5"4, weighs 40lbs LESS then me, and also wears a size 12.

All 3 of us eat differently and have different exercise programs. I"m the only one of the 3 that weight trains. Makes me wonder????

I think it has something to do with where you carry your weight and how evenly distributed it is. I wear size 10-12 and weigh more than my sister who's the same height as me and wears around a 16-18.

I solemnly swear that I am up to no good

It also has a lot to do with muscle mass, since it's heavier than fat. You can be thin and muscular and weigh more than someone who is chubby with no muscle tone. Also, if you really work your abs, your waist will be thicker with muscle.

Also, sizes vary in different name brand clothing. I sell clothes and I know. I have sold a pair of 18 jeans that measured the same as a size 12. Just my opinion. I wouldn't get too caught up in sizes anyway for this reason.

I agree that weight and clothes sizes do not account for anything. I am 5'4 weigh 140 but I wear a size 6 and am now down to 16.5% bodyfat. Go Figure ;)

I think what size one wears does depend on body type more than just overall size. I wear a larger size on top because of wide shoulders.

I know I've always looked smaller than the size I wear (when I used to wear size 10-12--back in the 70's, when they were equivalent to a size 8 today--several people thought I looked like I wore a size 5).

I totally agree. I have a co-worker that weighs less than me, too, and we wear the same size. Depending on how I feel when I'm shopping I might have trouble excepting one size versus another. Darn clothing designers, things would be easy if they were all sized the same. :)

P.S. - Dana, I emailed you yesterday did you get it?

No kidding on the size thing. I can wear a size 0 at Old Navy. I am 5'2" and weigh 126. Normally wear a 6. When I was in my 20's and weighed 115 I wore an 8.
