Weight Bench

l23

Cathlete
Hi, I usually use a step (mine's small though) for chest and triceps work. I was wondering if a simple weight bench would be a good investment for these moves, plus some ab and glute moves I've seen in magazines that require a bench?

Thanks

Hi, 123!

I personally love my long step as a weight bench. It can be used
for all different moves, including all the moves you mentioned. The advantage I see in you getting a long step would be that it would serve the purpose of two pieces of equipment and also give you the opportunity of bigger moves in step aerobics. Does this make sense? I'm not even sure that you WANT a longer step but thought I'd let you know it's been the best investment I've made.(Besides my barbells and dumbbells!)Just an idea. Also, I picked
up extra risers to make the step higher for weight work.

Hi, I have a long step but also recently purchased a weight bench and can I tell you how much I love it!! Mine is by a company called parabody, and to be honest was a little pricey (almost $200) but its gym quality and a great investment for me. But, they sell less expensive ones all over for even 50 bucks or so. Im tall (5'9") so for me to get up and down off the step for weight work was hurting my back. The bench is sooo much easier to get on/off of. Plus you can do tricep dips, and seated upper body work on it too. Is it a must have, no, but I wouldnt trade it for nuthin'. Judy

RE: Hi, 123!

Hi Debbie

Was wondering where you got your long step from. I recently sold my weight bench due to room constrictions but would like to get a nice step that I can just slide away into the closet. I am tall so a longer one would be ideal. Anyplace online yours can be ordered.

Thank you.

Hi. I just want to add my vote for a long step to double as a great weight bench. I also purchased extra risers to make it taller. I really love the long step both for stepping and for weight work. You can get the club size "The Step" from several places on line: fitness1st.com, collagevideo.com, spriproducts.com, just to name a few (sorry, I don't know how add direct links to these sites).

I used to use a short step for both stepping and weight work. I can't begin to describe the difference going to a long step. It was well worth the investment (I think I spent around $115 for the step plus 4 extra risers).

Hi Kathleen!

I see Michelle has given you a couple of ideas of where to order a "Step" bench. I got mine from Sam's Club a year & half to two years ago. I was VERY lucky because they were selling them at the time for (if I remember right) about $40.00!! I was sooo excited because they usually sell for approximately $100-$110. Of course, I grabbed it up because I was using a short step at the time. Then, if that wasn't lucky enough, about a month or so after I bought it, they decided to discontinue them and marked them down to $20.00!!! I bought another one so my daughter could workout with me when she visits and also bought a couple as gifts!! Talk about the deal of the century! Sorry to be so excited about something to you that is probably not available in your area. I guess I am just trying to say, it has been one of the very BEST investments I have made since I met Cathe. (on vid!) Good Luck, Kathleen! Oh, one more thing~Keep an eye open at garage sales and thrift shops as steps do turn up there from time to time.

Debbie and girls on steps and such!

Thanks Debbie and ladies

You did find a bargain, Deb...isn't that great when you run into something like that. I might check a local paper that sells a lot of exercise equipment first. You might have to travel a ways into Pennsylvania to look at it but it may be worth it.

I was on the forum for awhile back late last fall and really enjoyed all the input from everyone. Mid September I had an attack of sorts and am looking at a probably diagnosis of MS. It is odd how your life can change so suddenly. I was lifting regularly and running a few short months ago and now have a hard time opening a bottle of soda and managing steps.

But, I am now past the shock, fear stage and want to return to some form of exercise...my muscles have all but disappeared. It won't be the same as it was before but I think I can adapt Cathe's videos and just listen to my body.

So, I will be back from time to time to absorb your knowledge.

Thanks again.

Hi Kathleen!

I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis and just wanted to say I want to commend you on your attitude and your drive to keep fitness in your life even with limitations!! That is wonderful! I can somewhat relate to what you are going thru as my twin sis has "temporarily" been diagnosed with MS also. The doctors are not SURE she has it but some of her symptoms lead that in that direction. It is so good to see you back posting. I remember your screen name. Keep up the good work, listen to your body and know we are thinking of you! Good Luck finding a step!:7

RE: Hi Kathleen!

Hello Deb

I am a twin also. Fortunately, my "other" is well. My diagnosis is not yet firm yet either...it is a frustrating disease to deal with. I hope your sister has a good doctor. I am learning to be very proactive regarding my health...otherwise you just fall between the cracks.

Take care.
