I am so sick of my 1991 Honda Civic that will not die. I'm in the market for a different car, but cannot afford a brand new one. I have been looking at 99 Grand Prix and and Grand Am. They are my two favorites. Any input on these cars, anyone ever own one or own one now?? What are your thoughts? Thanks so much to anyone out there with some knowledge re. these cars. Take care everyone. Mary

I have a 1995 grand prix SE and bought it new! It now has 52000 miles on it!It's great on gas! It is white with tan interior and has a moon roof! It's sporty and has alot of room inside! Before this I had a 92 used grand prix (same color) and I only traded that in because they were changing the body style! I have had no problems with mine except 2 weeks ago my driver door made a funny sound! It turned out that I needed a door check and they installed a new hinge! My cousin has a 1994 black and grey grand prix with 165000 miles and has been having electrical problems for the last 2 years! The lights wouldn't go out, so he took all the bulbs out!His car has been passed around by everyone in the house!Their not ready to give OLD BETSIE up yet!I wish you luck on your car hunt and hope you buy it from someone who took great care of it!Your friend in fitness~~Francine

Thanks guys. Coenan, I am sure you are right about my Honda, I have been told to just get another one,but I really want something different and sporty, Mid life crisis maybe. LOL Francine, thanks a lot, your post gave me some hope. If anybody else has any knowledge please jump on board and share. Thanks again and have a great day, have to go work out now. PS BBA this morning. Take care. Mary

Hey Mary!
The Explorer I currently own is my first American car! I also have a 1991 Mitsubishi Colt just to go to work and it has 200K miles on it. I have owned 3 other cars, all Hondas, all excellent. The Japanese kill us in quality of car, even though American cars are getting better.
On Carpoint it looks like new Grand Prixs get great reviews by people who have them. However I will say that I would NEVER buy anything used unless it was a Honda or Toyota. They hold their value and performance better than anything. Period. I'd check Consumer Reports to help you decide on a used Grand Prix. They are straight up honest in their comparisons because they don't have to answer to advertisers, etc.
Good luck!
Trevor :)

I think you can't go wrong with either! I had a 93 Grand Am, then I got a 96 Grand Prix, and DH just got (a company car) a 2002 Grand Prix GT. We are turning into a Pontiac Family! (Didn't even mean to). I got my Grands because I love the look, they are perfect and fun to drive, and no problems ever. I'd buy them again and again. By the way my BIL has a 1997 Grand Am, and his BIL has a 1998! Funny. We all like them!

couple of other notes:

1. if you want a used car, look for lease returns. You
usually find them with low miles (less than 20K)
at much cheaper prices. NOTE: lease returns
not rental returns. Rentals are driven hard.

2. Narrow down the models you want then go to a web
site like

http://www.edmunds.com

Go to their forums and see what others say about
the model you want.

Thanks so much everyone. A special thanks to Coenan because I didn't know about the edmunds site. I have been on epinions.com and they have a lot of reviews. Off to edmunds. Does anyone know the site where you can find out the history on a car. Thanks again. Mary

I own a slightly newer Gran Prix (2000) and my hubby has a 1998 Gran Prix and we love them. We are Pontiac freaks. They are sporty and darn fun to drive. Pretty cars. As a matter of fact, we are expecting our 2nd child and have to get something else. So we have to give up one of them. That will be tough.

We have always owned Pontiacs and have never had a problem. I cannot imagine that you would not enjoy a Gran Prix. You'll look really good in it!

Hi everyone. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who added their 2 cents to my question. I did buy a 99 Black GP GT, 29,000 miles for $13750. I don't have it yet, probably Monday or Tuesday. I am very excited, new toy. Thanks again and everyone have a great weekend. Mare
