waterlogged!

Ok.....I know what the reccomendations are for water intake. I simply can NOT do it! I made a resolution this year to put serious effort into drinking copious amounts of water. The results.....aside from hitting the bathroom often, I feel bloated, my clothes are snug, I've gained a few pounds. Honestly it reminds of being pregnant and not yet showing the baby bump. Some say that this side effect will eventually go away. I am waterlogged and confused. I want to do the right thing but I feel like my kidneys and blatter are getting a workout while I feel REALLY puffy!

I have kept everything else in my life the same.....workouts and diet.

Help me out before I drown!

I am like you!!!

I don't follow the 8x8 rule (eight ounces, eight glasses of water). I can't do it and the last thing I want is to be over-hydrated. I am the winner on getting *caught* peeing off trail to the point where I started buying Lady J's (google it). I have suffered poison ivy butt, hunters in deer stands, amongst other things.

I think its all variable, depending first where do you live (dry, hot regions) versus cooler places (I'm in Minnesota). Depends on what you eat, lots of things have a high water content. How much do you sweat and what exactly are you doing. Today I did STS #9 and Cardio Coach #6. I poured a glass of water, but took just a sip or two, it was basically untouched. I just wasn't thirsty and that had to do in part that my basement gym is about 62 degrees right now and I wasn't sweating. In the summer, its completely different. There are times when I'm pouring water down my throat, and can't get enough.

Everyone is different, but I have never walked around with a waterbottle sipping on it. Don't feel bad, your body will let you know what to do.

Ignore the 'recommendations' and drink enough for your pee to be pale (white wine coloured - just not a heavily oaked chardonnay :p)

Same here, I am prone to UTI's and should be drinking more water, but I can't seem to get it down. Coffee? no problem I can drink 8 cups a day if I don't stop myself.

I asked on myfitnesspal.com for any recommendations to make it easier to drink more water. I have put a small slice of lime in it, and it's "ok" but not great.

anyone here have any suggestions?

I'm the same way....know I should, but don't. Sometimes I put a tiny bit of my kids' juicy juice in the water. It sweetens it a tad, and it makes it go down so much easier. Fruit punch is my favorite.

I put watermellon in my water sometimes. I don't like lemon or lime, but I love watermellon. You may also want to try oranges, that's what my grandmother loves. I live in SW FL so I have all these available most of the time and not too expensive. Hope this helps.

I learned to slice up a strawberry and put that in the water. At first it sounded weird, but it also has vit. C and is a little tart in the water like lemon. Also, Dr. Oz said some time ago that you don't have to do the 8 glasses a day anymore. I tend to drink 6, usually in my water bottle. I often put a little frozen oj (100% juice) in it, very dilute juice. Tap water or plain water tends to taste unpleasant to me.

These are some great ideas about flavoring up the water. I'm prone to UTI's also and after a horrible one about 6-7 years ago, he said to always pee after sex...always...even if you have to sit there and drink water. . I took that advice to the max and haven't had one yet. But putting in fruit in the water, like strawberries, watermelon and cherry, omg that sounds really good.

I like slightly carbonated water, so bought a soda stream. doesn't save much money but beats lugging big bottles of carbonated water home from the store. I don't carbonate as much as commercial waters seem to be. I have reusable bottles I fill and refrigerate. the flavor is a little sharper than plain tap water and I like it much better. I don't sweat much even when I work hard. I drink a 17 oz bottle of water first thing in the am to get things started.
I don't count glasses, but get 6-8 a day. I also use Nuun tablets which add just a little flavor to water for about 5 calories.

Just like everybody else said, ignore the recommendations. With your job, you have enough stress in your day to worry about over-hydration and electrolyte balance. I drink mostly water mostly between meals (no fruit juice or soft drinks) but I don't keep track of it. It varies from day to day. We get a lot of water from the meals we eat anyway. Sometimes I like "fizzy" water and I buy Perrier but I drink mostly filtered tap water. I like to add few slices of pineapple and a vanilla bean to the pitcher of filtered water. It makes water taste great.
