Want to help me shop for a wedding dress?

Without searching for them on the web myself, I would tend to go with Nancy's idea of looking for "bridal party" or "cocktail" like one of the other's posted.

Sometimes you can even google this with colors too and it takes less time.

Have fun and CONGRATULATIONS !

Thanks, Catherine! It's been A LONG time since I went dress shopping for myself, so I was beginning to fear I was out of practice and was suggesting ugly stuff! I'm curious to see which one she decides on, regardless!! :)

Stephanie, you've still got it! Don't worry.

So far I like this one the best.

I just worry some that it isn't a petite. I'm not even 5'2" so the petite styling is really important.

I like the last one you posted too Stephanie. And a lot of the others as well!

Can't compete with Wreckreation Nation for DF's attention. Funny.

There's a great upscale consignment store in town that I'll check out.

I'm not quite as hard-body as I'd like so some structure is important.

Thanks for all your feedback and feel free to keep the ideas coming!

Suzanne, I love the dress you picked, but I'm not so sure about that color for you. Notice how dark-haired the model is. You have a lighter coloring, and I know you're probably not planning to wear dramatic make-up. I think you might want to stay away from such a deep, dark color. Just my two cents worth. :)

Nancy, ITA. Plus, if it doesn't come in a petite then it certainly won't work for me. I have to be careful with the shape due to the *ahem* shapely hips I've got. ;) Along with a short-ish waist.

I think the color in general is pretty. But in my minds eye I see something more silvery - a sage green or a soft violet.

It's very interesting to me to see how DF's interest in the wedding and all it's add-on's is growing. I was ready to show up at town hall in my blue jeans. But he's the one who wants a location, wants some fuss. It's very sweet!

So, the search continues. What I like most about that dress is the v-neck isn't too low and the sleeves are fun.

I'm also petite and have a VERY short waist. Some dresses actually give you the illusion of a longer waist, usually with some ruching, so that might be something to consider.

Suzanne, I think that the color would be OK if you wore your hair up and maybe wore a dramatic lip or eye. It's technically a bridesmaid's dress, so I'm pretty sure it could be tailored to fit? (Not totally sure about this.) Have you tried going to bridal shops where you live to look through the bridesmaids' collections? You might find something more in your color palate there.

When's the wedding? I know you must be so excited!! Congratulations, by the way! :)

Too much credit!

Ms. Stephanie you are giving me much too much credit here LOL!

My makeup style is the following: about once every 3 or 4 years there's an event, or I'll just get a yen for something to cover up my spider veins and dark circles. I'll go out and pick up a powder, maybe a foundation, tube of mascara. Those items will sit, used once, twice maybe, until they expire and we restart the cycle.

I'm a bit of a country bumpkin so it's a far cry for me to do anything dramatic with my looks.

Honey wants a bit of a fuss and I love him dearly, so I will don the foundation garments, and apply more than sunscreen, and try not to have my usual frizz-bomb hairdo, but I can't perform miracles! :D

Also, major budget constraints are part of the picture so I can't go out and spend $200 on a dress and then another $200 on alterations.

Thank you for your kind words and your congratulations :) We're looking at an end-of-August date at the moment. I didn't think I'd be this giddy about the whole thing but I am.

I'll try to post a pic of us so you can see what I'm talking about bumpkin-wise.

Let's try this - haven't posted pics in a while

I posted it in my profile here. Anyone know how to get it into the thread?

Suzanne, you are not a bumpkin!! You're a natural beauty! And I love your hair! Wish I had curls like that! I just suggested an up-do to highlight the neckline of the dress/for dramatic purposes. The MOST important thing is for you to be comfortable and to feel like a princess on your special day with your special someone. :)

I think it's sweet that you are giddy. :)

I like the entire line - a couple of the others on the page had some bolder coloring. The fact that they all have a little "glitz" would be really nice for a wedding ensemble.

Perhaps they will have some others at Nordstrom's when you get there.

Thanks so much Catherine and Jacque! The best I could do at my local mall was a Macy's but they did have one of the tiered dresses, which I tried on, and liked, but again... need more color.

DD said between the silver and the blue (I tried the silver) she liked the blue better.

I'll keep looking.

I wonder if Nancy found a dress for her occasion?
