Vick gets 2 years--is it enough?

Personally I think no. Also what I haven't heard yet is 2 years of WHAT. 2 years in club fed? 2 years in jail where he can be hero worshipped by his fellow inmates? And when he's done, will the NFL re-hire him?

My opinion--he should've gotten 2 years of shoveling $hit & taking care of animals at a farm somewhere. No hero-worship, no real human interaction, just hard labor & learning what animals are REALLY about. Of course, that's just my opinion.

Nope. How can you get a life sentence and/or the death penalty for killing a person but only a couple months in jail for brutally murding over half a dozen helpless animals? It's sick.

Hopefully his career is ruined though. That's what will really get him.

No definitely not. He deserved what punishment he gave the dogs...death. IMHO killing/abusing an animal is sick and inexcusable.

I'll bet he's out in time for the next football season, and I'll bet he plays. I'm thoroughly disgusted. Nice example that judge is setting for everyone.

I bet the sentence either gets suspended or he will be out on parole before you know it.

Either way, I doubt he will do the two years.

No, 2 years is not enough for that scum-sucking jerkface (I have worse names to call him, but there are rules on these forums!). x(

I just caught a few more details at lunch. He will serve at least 21 months. He could get out 3 months early for good behavior.

ITA Evily. Frankly I don't think a word has yet been invented that describes him, however I'm willing to give it the old Jersey Girl try. ;-)

I agree with all of you and I'll add this....I am a huge NFL fan, if Michael Vick is re-instated, I will burn every stitch of NFL-related apparel I own, box up the ashes, and mail them straight to the Commishiners' Office, I will be through with the NFL at that point.

Here are some amazingly frightening statistics linking dog-fighting to other criminal behavior:

Research on the links between animal abuse and interpersonal violence and other crimes. A Chicago Police Department study, which analyzed 332 arrest records from 2001 to 2004, found that 65% of those arrested for crimes against animals had prior arrests for battery, 70% for drugs, and 26% for weapons offenses; 59% had gang ties; and 13% were sex offenders.

Great. That's just great. I'm soooooo glad he's getting such a light sentence. *insert ridiculous amount of sarcasm here*

Obviously if someone can do such horrific things to animals they wouldn't hesitate to do the same to humans. Why is the court being so lenient on this?!!??!?!?! I just don't understand. I'm so furious.

working tirelessly in rescue for the past ten years (and rescuing my fair share of "bait dogs"), i can't even begin to comment on dick. those who abuse animals think nothing of hurting people (*takes psychologist hat off*).

i hope he lives a miserable life and never sets foot on a football field again. should any team hire him, i will make sure they hear from me (and i know countless others will protest).

i only wish the "rape stands" he built and made his female dogs endure are used on him at least daily in prison.

At least one piece of "good" news I read - because this is a federal offense and a federal sentence, parole is NOT an option. Best case is a 3 month reduction for "good behavior." He will be in prison at a minimum, through May 2009 but more likely through October 2009. His stupidity and ignorance have also cost him an estimated $145 million dollars in forfeited salaries and endorsements! He will be out of football for probably at least three years, which makes a comeback, particularly at the QB position, very difficult, at best.

Lorie, "rape stands?" I really cannot read anymore about this subject. This is simply to horrific to imagine and sickens my heart.

He will get what the Universe deems is the right punishment, just wait and see. You cannot get away with abusing and killing innocents without something eventually happening, its the universal laws of justice.

What is even sadder to me (is 'sadder' even a word?;)) is that these "rape stands" that Lorie mentioned are how they impregnate cows as well so that they continue to produce milk. How awful. I just shutter to think of what humans to do animals every minute of every day.

All I can say is that I'm glad he doesn't live in Utah where animal abuse is a misdemeanor and all he would have received is a slap on the wrist. They voted twice this year to change animal abuse to a felony and the close-minded a$$holes in this state voted it down both times. It absolutely disgusts me and I can't fathom their reasons for wanting to keep it a misdemeanor. I don't know who they're trying to protect with that law.

Amy, I wanted to say something soooo bad,,,,but I will not. But as a former Utah resident, I know exactly how you feel!

the one thing we all (all us crazy rescue people) really fought for was getting animal cruelty to be considered a felony in georgia. now, the law is not that great (it's not nearly as strict as we would like it) but it has worked for us in the past. if you can handle it (and believe me, this is burned into my mind forever) read about this local case: http://www.pet-abuse.com/cases/9605/GA/US/

we protested, wrote letters, did everything we could to make sure these evil, vile, worthless boys were punished. the D.A. even had to try the case twice (because of a mistrial) and he did it. sad thing is, this is just one case. there are so many that are not even found out. working in rescue, i have seen way to much to ever be passive. i will do whatever i can to stop this.

i don't know what is in the "hearts" of these people who do these things. i can not comprehend hurting an innocent creature. i just don't understand it.

The short attention spans of Americans will likely forget all about this little unpleasantry (that's sarcasm) by the time he returns to the field (I've already heard sport casters predicting he will be back). However, despite the fact that I have virtually no interest in football, I will show up at the stadium, if ever/wherever it may be, to boo that subhuman and his "gangsta culture" as loud as I can.
