Vick gets 2 years--is it enough?

>the one thing we all (all us crazy rescue people) really

OH MY GOD, Lorie. Those boys deserve nothing less than the death penalty for that crime. Think of what they could do to humans?!?! That poor, poor animal. I think I'm going to be sick....

"My opinion--he should've gotten 2 years of shoveling $hit & taking care of animals at a farm somewhere. No hero-worship, no real human interaction, just hard labor & learning what animals are REALLY about. Of course, that's just my opinion."

I agree--sometimes jail is just too pleasant. I think a more creative and less pleasant and longer sentence is in order.

Lorie--the case you referenced was horrible beyond words. What really floored me was that the family thought the sentence was too harsh. I know it happens all the time, but I can't understand how families justify the evil of some family members. What kind of a family produces children like this anyway? I'll bet these boys had behavioral problems before that should have been nipped in the bud and weren't. A brutal crime like this doesn't just come out of nowhere.

It really grieves me how crimes toward "least of these", particularly animals and children are not dealt with severely enough.

I know that it's not much, but I'm so glad Judge Hudson refused to let Vick enter his courtroom in a suit. He made him wear his white and black striped prison garb, complete with cuffs and chains.

As far as being lenient, the judge was harsher than expected. According to the plea deal, the Feds were willing to go with 18 months. Of course, it would have been nice if he'd been sentenced longer, but that will come with changing the laws to make the sentencing more severe.

I was reading about Vick earlier tonight, and I thought 2 years was not close to being enough, until I got to the part about him still facing a laundry list of state charges. The jail sentence for the state charges cannnot be served concurrently with the fed charges. So lets say he gets another 5 years for the state charges, he may end up serving 7 years in jail. Then he may be too old to play football, he would have used up all his money in legal defense and then have to go work at McDonalds. Just a fantasy. In reality he gets out in 23 months and plays football, and then we have to hear him on ESPN interviews how he is a changed man and crap like that.

He won't work at McDonalds, he'll go on welfare, food stamps and we'll support him while someone else is homeless, freezing on the street.

Happens with ex cons all the time

I'm glad that federal prisons don't have all the gym equipment and weight rooms that state prisons have...he certainly won't come out in the shape he's in now. Plus, two years is a pretty long time to be out of the game (literally), and there's a lot of new talent coming up that will make people in two years say "Mike who?" Maybe someone will take him, but he'll never get the money or the endorsement deals that were once his. Oh, and not only has he already lost millions, he has had to fork out close to $1 million for the care and upkeep of the dogs that survived his Bad Newz Kennel hell.

On a different note, the Virginia General Assembly has some new dog fighting legislation to vote on, due mainly, I'm sure, to this high-profile case. I think there's a pretty good chance that all of them will pass easily. Hopefully, other states will follow suit.
