Vegetarian Question

Karen, I am out the door in an hour and the book will be on it's way later today. It's a priviledge to be a part of your fitness journey.
It begins with curiosity, leads to knowledge, and affects change that can make, not only your health better, but the world better. And that is indeed how revolutins begin! I hope you find what you are searching for and make it work for you!

That is a beautiful quote. I am going to print that out ond put it in my fitness book. Again thanks for the book. You inspire me to learn out of your kindness. Karen

i am very curious, Bubbles: how does one do atkins when they don't eat meat? do you eat mainly fish and eggs?

i have very much enjoyed reading all of these clarifications of vegetarianism! thanks for asking this question:)

Hi Jes -

For a brief two-week period, I will eat tuna and salmon and maybe talapia. I'm not vegan, so I eat dairy anyway and usually have egg whites scrambled with spinach or some other vegetable for breakfast.

I was on Atkins for a year and lost 55 pounds. I don't particularly like this diet anymore and am missing the whole grains and starchy vegetables and fruits, but it gives quick results.

I was too strict with my carb intake on Atkins and after a year on it I was getting muscle cramps in my legs and my hair was falling out. I felt great when I switched to a vegetarian diet.

thanks bubbles. so what could you eat besides fish and eggs then when you did atkins?

Kathryn: she said in an above post that she would be considered a "pesco vegetarian" according to the classifications someone else mentioned.

Hi Jes -

Here's the web site describing the induction phase of Atkins:

http://atkins.com/Archive/2004/12/27-833156.html

I'm trying to follow this phase for two weeks, eating only fish for a meat. After I lose the 5 lbs. I put on, I'll go back to a more strict vegetarian diet, which I prefer.

I am not a vegetarian because of my compassion for animals (although I love animals) but because I think it is a healthy way to eat after reading Joel Fuhrman's book.

Hope this answers your questions!

Karen it's the last line of a poem by one of my favorite poets:

The Summer Day

Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

- Mary Oliver

Not vegetarian, by my understanding (see my above post).
