Valentine's Day

My feelings exactly, in fact, I started to write a post this afternoon that I did not finish about those "Hallmark" holidays, and I think (here come the cat-calls!) Mother's Day is the biggest one of all. I taught my kids growing up that I did NOT like Mother's Day, and that it was just one enormous guilt trip. You have to rank Valentine's Day, Sweetest Day, and Mother's Day as the top 3.
Just Do It! :)

Corny as it sounds, we got married on Valentine's Day 13 years ago. It was his mom and stepdad's anniversary and his stepdad's birthday and it was his mom's idea. We only dated 3 months (got engaged after 6 weeks - we just knew) and we have the best marriage. But we don't really celebrate. My mom and her DH always take us out to dinner, but not on the actual day. Some years DH gets me something if I want it and others we don't do anything. But it's never a surprise and more like others said - a reason to get something we were wanting anyway. This year we are spending the night at friends house since we're leaving for Mexico the next morning about 3:30am and they live about 45 minutes closer to the aiport. So much for their romantic evening! :)

All I want is a funny tacky card.......I look forward each year to LMAO at the ones DH picks out (they are always "so" me). The Roses are okay, but I want that card!!!!

Romance, jacuzzi, candles and wine are always later....only if he shows up with THAT perfect card;)

Most definitely, we celebrate. It's my little guy's birthday on Valentine's Day too, so that makes it extra special. He turns 10 this year!

:)

We normally go out for a nice dinner and he'll get me flowers or candy or something small and we'll exchange cards. He tells me not to buy him anything further so I don't. I don't even care if I get the flowers and the candy is just TROUBLE!}( LOL I enjoy the dinner though. This year, actually, we had planned to do a dinner alone but a group is getting together and going to a Japanese steakhouse for dinner the saturday night we were planning our dinner and we decided to nixx the "romantic" stuff and hang with the crowd. Should be fun! :)

For me, it's all about the chocolate. Save the money on the fancy lingerie, just gimme some rich Belgian truffles.:9

We celebrate all year through. I am blessed to have husband who brings home roses for "no reason". It means so much more to me that way. I must say that I did love it the year that my DH took one of those adds out in the newspaper that said he couldn't wait to marry me.

I think Valentine's Day makes a lot of people that aren't in relationships feel badly. And that makes me sad. I agree that we should not feel as if we HAVE to celebrate our love on a certain day that is chosen by Hallmark!

it's my favorite holiday because as sappy as it sounds, i like the idea of celebrating love. the past two years our plans have gotten moved or canceled due to business stuff, but i still love v-day. I have a great dh and we are good at celebrating our love all year long. aside from my b-day, v-day has been my favorite holiday for as long as i can remember. i love the cards, the candy..everything.

ROCK ON VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!:7

p.s for those of you who don't like roses because they die, hang them upside down and dry them. they make great decoration as a dried bouquett, potpourri or the petals are great for dressing up a boring picture frame matte.
