Using the barbell for S&H back work

Anyone else do that? I'm thinking of using the barbell for the back portion of S&H. I think it will give me a better workout for my back that way.
Has anyone else done this, and how does it work for you?

I haven't done S&H for a while, so I don't remember what back exercises there are. I assume there are lat rows? I would be cautious doing slow and heavy lat rows without support (as in bending over with a barbell). They put a lot of stress on the lower back, and several fitness experts (like Douglas Brooks) recommend not doing bent over barbell rows (without support) at all. I actually change most of my lat rows to one-arms supported lat rows: I can lift heavier that way while still supporting my back.

You could support yourself by doing the barbell version face-down on a slightly inclined bench and pulling the bar beneath the bench.

I did the first set of rows with the bar, standing semi-upright.
Worked fairly well, but the bar was heavy. So for the next 2 sets, I used lighter dumbells.
And I always stand semi-upright for the rows. I just can't seem to be able to do those rows in a flat back bend over position.

I use a barbell for the deadlifts, it helps me maintain better form than when I use dumbbells for deadlifts.

I think that if you bend over, with good form, Douglas Brooks notwithstanding, you can increase your ability to bend over properly.

That is one of the aims of fitness. (And one reason I don't wear gloves, because I want some toughness on my palms) -- but I still wear shoes. What can I say. :p
