I just heard the great news a little while ago! I got choked up when they were talking about his family and home town. I just can't imagine the relief they must be feeling.

Yes, and I found out this morning my nephew is deployed on the Navy ship that rescued him! Great news!

Jo :D

OMG. I was watching a dvr'd City Confidential when I read your post and switched over to CNN. Thanks for the tip. I'm catching up now!

My brother is a retired merchant marine captain. He worked for Maersk and his last name is Phillips ~ too weird! Oh the stories he has from his world travels!

Glad to see we came, saw and kicked butt . . . . ! GO NAVY!

That was about as successful an outcome as one could hope for ~ great to hear an innocent man was rescued and none of our guys were hurt.

Go, Navy!

I have the utmost respect for anyone in the military, plus all those who work as first responders like police & firefighters - it takes a special breed to do that kind of work.

As for Capt. Phillips, he'll be the next Capt. Sully, and deservedly so!

I thought this was pretty cool, they said 3 shots were fired, and 3 pirates dead, now those are some skills!

I really did not expect a happy outcome for this, I was so happy to hear he was rescued.

Being a former squid, I admit I was choked up with pride! :) Take it pirates! I believe they picked on the wrong ship. :)

I'm going to see the movie and buy the book when it comes out! Cause you know that it's coming. Navy Seals Rock and kick butt!!!! The captain and Navy seals are all hero's in my book!

Wanna hear something funny? I was watching a story on CNN last night about what it takes to be a Navy Seal - and how they're recruiting hard among young endurance athletes (which I am NOT). I was thinking 'I think I could do that... and that...' and then the reporter said "These guys have slept a total of four hours in five days..."

If I didn't have things to do I could probably sleep 12 hours a day! And I'm a chick...

BTW, did you all know the first Ninja's were WOMEN? And the most successful pirate ever was a Chinese woman (I don't know how her name is spelled but it sounded like SHI-KAI). I used to spend a lot of time watching The History Channel...

I'm a former squid, too but the only time I ever ran into a bunch of SEALS I got an incorrect impression of them because they were really drunk. Working for the post office I'm around A LOT of former military. One day a bunch of us were talking and I said something about how they should recruit for the special forces among prisoners if they want people who'll do anything. That's when I found out I know NOTHING about our special forces and the men who make up the ranks. One of the guys told me most SEALS (all special forces, really) are fluent in multiple languages and have off-the-charts i.q.'s in addition to being monstrously physically fit and trained to the hilt.

I just remember a guy who worked in an office down the hall when I was on active duty. He came from a long line of SEALS and he flunked out of training AFTER having been scratched up lying under water on sharp rocks, breathing through a reed for EIGHT HOURS! I just thought those guys were nuts (really USEFUL nuts...). On that CNN story they talked about the sharpshooters, being deadly accurate while shooting on choppy seas. They said those guys are so practiced at that sort of stuff it's practically "muscle memory." Can you imagine? Just a superior breed.

Hey I function all the time on no sleep, I have that part down....the rest, nope.

There was something on the history channel about SEALS the other day and they were saying that they do a super intense 26 week training program then they do 6 month deployments/work in the field followed by another round of 18 months of training and continue with that cycle.

As mentioned before they are extremely smart. If anyone has ever watched the TV show The Unit it is close to reality in that they speak multiple languages, go on missions that no one knows about and have skills to do anything with nothing. They are truly amazing!

What a fantastic job they did.
