urinary track infection

Cranberry Juice . Not Cranberry Juice Cocktail. When I would feel one coming on I would mix a large bottle of water with it. I would take a 1 qt bottle put about 1/3 cranberry juice and 2/3 water. Refill when done. I would drink this all day for a few days.

Thank you so much...on my way to get some cranberry juice!!

Since I'm prone to them, I take a cranberry capsule 2x/day as a preventive measure and it has definitely helped. Plus I always make sure I drink plenty of water.

Good Luck..those are not fun.

Hi I've had 3 UTI's and in all cases I never had to resort to antibiotics. Thank goodness as I have gut problems which I CANNOT make worse with antibiotics. In all three cases I took cranberry pills. The one's I've taken are Cran-Max by Swiss Naturals and SISU's Cranberry Ultra. Both are excellent for treating UTI's but I think I prefer SISU's better. When I'm in the throws of an infection my Doctor prescribed for me to take 2 of the cranberry capsules A.M. and 2 capsules P.M. (4 pills a day total) and within 3 days you should START to notice an effect but keep on taking until absolutely no symptoms (minimum 7 days) and then continue dosing for another 2-3 days. I then always take about 1-2 capsules a day for the next month or so as a maintenance. It's really worked.

If all else fails ~ with my first infection, I didn't know to take that high dose ~ so I added in D-Mannose powder along with the Cran-Max. And got rid of the infection. But my last 2 times I just took the cranberry pills and it did the trick but you need to up the dose to at least 4 pills a day to cure it.

Hope this helps! :D

Cranberry Juice Concentrate

Lulu,

I buy this concentrate from GNC and keep it in the fridge! I take a tablespoon full... kind of bitter, but it's over fast! :D That helps me... and I have had a lot of UTI's!:p:rolleyes:

Cranberry Juice Concentrate

I second the D-Mannose Powder! My daughter kept having 2 UTI's a month and went to the doctor, as well as a urologist, for antibotics, which started a vicious cycle of UTI's and yeast infections (caused by the antibotics). She found NOW brand D-Mannose Powder on Amazon.com (cheaper than at the health food store). She got the OK from her OB-Gyn and family doctor that it was ok to use. They told her that she could take the powder forever. She also takes a probotic. She has not had a UTI since starting the D-Mannose powder. It's 1 level teaspoon 1 to 2 times a day in water or unsweetened juice, such as unsweetened cranberry juice.

But, of course, check with your doctor first.

My daughter hasn't had a UTI in over a year! I hope it helps you!

Thank you all so much for your very helpful recommendations I got rid of the urinary track infection and soon after that I got hit with a stomach virus and just now starting to feel better. Thank you again!!!

Does anyone know of a D-Mannose brand that's not derived from corn?

This thread was very useful--thank you!

I take two cranberry pills

a day, and sometimes I still get them. I had one last summer just because the weather was really hot. They are so painful for me, and my doctor usually gives me cipro. he did say I might get immune to the anitbiotic, but I have no car, so how do I get to a specialist?

Caitlin, that's awful that it doesn't work for you. Since reading this thread I've been looking at Amazon reviews and such. Have you thought of combining D-Mannose and cranberry pills? (I tried taking garlic pills at an onset but I now realize they were not close to strong enough.) Drink water copiously too.
Your doc should be prescribing different antibiotics precisely because you do become immune to them at some point. But I want to avoid them altogether because antibiotics wreak havoc on your body.
The UTIs are viciously painful for me too.

So sorry you have this. I have friend who gets them a lot. Cranberry juice is always good...but sometimes she has to take antibiotics....

And FYI...it is urinary tract, not track.......:D. Just a quirky thing I have with phrases and spelling and words... I am totally left-brained!

Hope you feel better soon.

You don't want to mess around self medicating if you do indeed have a UTI b/c if it gets out I control you can become septic, and that is life threatening. Just an FYI. ;-)

I agree. You need to see a doctor. This can lead to all sorts of problems if you don't get medical help.
I would not mess around with self medicating.

BCPW

Thanks for your reply; I am lucky that the antibiotics still work. What my internist did tell me was that eventually they would stop to work. One of the doctors in my internists office told me it did have something to do on how small or thin the woman was. I am only 5'1", and I had my kids via C section. I had a couple of UTI's during the summer just because it was so hot, and it had nothing to do with sex. I have been getting one every two months. I take cranberry pills every day,and I drink a lot.

This is interesting that you say this about small, thin women, because my friend who gets them a lot is very small, petite and thin!!!

I feel so short

I am barely one inch over five feet. Thank God, Cipro still works for me. I have no car, so how can I get to a specialist? I do not blame my neighbors on the seventh floor, because my friend John tried to help in every way he could, but he could not get it to start. It is really the cousin of the female who said he did not want to have anything to do with it, and it is his fault.

I agree with the D-Mannose. I've been taking it for almost 8 years now. I take 2 of the NOW Brand capsules everyday and (knock on wood) have not had a UTI since I started taking it.
I used to get them chronically and would be on antibiotics every month- it was HORRIBLE. I was seeing a urologist, had several tests done but, all to no avail. Then, I happened upon an article about D-Mannose and UTI's. I was desperate so I tried it and I will NEVER be without it. It's been a Godsend for me :)

Bilberry

I use bilberry to treat my interstitial cystitis I had it for many years as a teenager and it treated both infection and bleeding in the lining of my bladder, it takes about three days to cut down the pain and after that it takes about two weeks to kill the infection I take two, three times a day when I have a problem.

I take the Natures Way, Brand.
