Update on moving

Armywife

Cathlete
Well, for the people who read my last thread about Fort Lewis, WA or Fort Riley, KS, it is neither now. My husband just got told that he is getting orders for San Antonio, TX. We are in Fort Hood, TX right now. We were both stationed in San Antonio when we first met and then got stationed in Fort Hood. Now we are going back there after 5 years because he got an assignment to be an instructor there. So thanks to all who posted about Fort Lewis and Fort Riley. I really wish we were going to Fort Lewis because I wanted to go somewhere new and to get out of Texas but I guess going back to San Antonio is ok. There is a lot to do there so that will be fun, I just can't take the heat! We are supposed to be moving there in May so I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks again.

Toni,

i hope things go well with the move. Well at least you have been there before so you know the good and bad and what to expect. I never been to Texas myself but my mom says she will never go back LOL. she doesn't care for extreme warmth either

well, its better than fort riley for sure. Its just as hot there too, except you also have to put up with horrible winters.

There are lots of places worse than Texas. Bet your husband prefers it over Iraq! And isn't San Antonio better than Ft. Hood (ick)??? Good luck! When exactly are you moving?

The main reason my husband tried to get an instructor position is that it would keep him home for a few years. He has been deployed 4 times in the last 4.5 years. He has been deployed to Kuwait twice and Iraq twice. His unit just got back at the end of October from an 11 month deployment and they were already told that they are scheduled to deploy again next fall. He made some phone calls to get out of a field unit and so we ended up getting Fort Sam which he will be an instructor and get to be stable for a few years. He is so glad he won't have to go back to Iraq for a while. Yes San Antonio is better than Ft. Hood because there is so much more to do and experience but I just wanted to get away from this heat. It is killing me the last five years. We are supposed to be moving in May is what we have been told, we won't know the exact date until he gets his hard orders. I am an Army brat, was in the Army myself, and my husband is in so I like to move every few years so after being here for 5 years, I am getting antsy to move.
