unmotivated

well, i just did about 15 minutes of exercise and i quite. I have been real unmotivated lately. Usually when i get going working out i get in the swing of things and get a good workout. Today was not the case. I couldn't find my rhythm at all. I didn't sleep last night so i'm sure that doesn't help. But in all honesty i'm just really sick of working out. This includes all workouts. I have posted on some new ones i have done and while i like them i'm still unmotivated to stick with them. I took a week of from working out hoping this would help but it didn't. I'm in this funk that i can't seem to get out of. I have tried doing different workouts to motivate me: kickboxing, bootcamp, circuit training, hiit, pilates, yoga, wweight lifting, elliptical, etc. I just can't get motivated anymore. Sucks! I feel guilty for not finishing my workout but i just felt like i was just going through the motions and resenting doing it.

Hi Kariev, we all go through a time when we are just not into the exercise. I was wondering and not trying to get personal, but is there anything else going on in your life? Anything stressful? Or do you have any goals regarding your workouts? Have you set any personal goals like weight loss, body fat reduction, or fitting into some smaller jeans? It sounds to me that you might be missing something to give your workouts a purpose. Sometimes we need to have a different perspective for exercising such as just to feel healthy instead of the usual weight loss, etc. Also, are you experiencing feeling the blues for a long time? It might be a good idea to check with your doctor to see if there any underlying issue that may be causing your lack of motivation. Sometimes we can be feeling a little depressed and I'm not trying to say that you are depressed, but maybe you may have a mild form of depression. Anyway, even if you exercised for 15 minutes that is wonderful, the point is you exercised. So I would still keep doing it, even if you don't really feel like it, it will come back because you enjoyed it before. Anyway, I hope I didn't get too personal but I've been where you are and I just kept working out and believe it or not the "fun" did come back. Hang in there.

I'm feeling exactly the same way. I'm on the last 2 weeks of STS and although I love this program I'm sick to death of working out, this feeling has NOTHING to do with STS. Sometimes work, LIFE, and day to day chores just gets to me and I feel smothered with all the things I have to do. I haven't done cardio in 2 weeks! I"ve tried, I just CAN"T.

thanks for the reply. right now i'm going thorough a few stressors. i just found out my brother is having some addiction issues with alcohol and oxycottons. second, i'm just now starting to study for my physical therapy board exams. lately i have been feeling mini panic attacks. my chest will feel tight, my heart begins to race, and its difficult breathing. i'm not sleeping either b/c i can't turn off my brain. mabe i should go talk to my doctor. i'm going to get a run in hopefully tomorrow morning before i sit and study for the day. at least my diet is on the right track. i think part of it too is i'm so confused how to get the results i'm looking for. i just want to be lean and toned. i don't want to increase my muscle size as i'm happy where i'm at. i don't really have a goal for my workouts and feel like i'm just drifting between all different programs. i just feel blah

Hi Again, well I can see that you are under A LOT of stressors in your life and since there are so many of them, your body is just trying to "survive" by somehow taking something out - our bodies do have a threshold of tolerance and when we are too close to that threshold it starts to rebel and your feeling of no motivation can be a signal from your body to slow down a bit. I think going for a run is a great idea, please do that even if it's only for 15 minutes, it will do your body good - honest. You know I always tell myself when I'm under a lot pressure that life throws at us, "this too shall pass" so instead of "fighting" your feelings just accept them and be kind to yourself, don't dwell on what you are NOT doing because you are accomplishing many good things right now in your life. As far as your brother, we can only be there for our family when they need our help but honestly when it comes to these problems, he is the only one that can really help himself. Right now, you need to concentrate on your health because we only have this one life, this one moment so please continue to eat healthy, go for your run. Something that can help is, if you would like to try, is write two or three things that you are grateful for, it can be as simple as "bottled water", whatever, only you will see it and do this every night before you go to bed - just write two or even just one - try it and let me know how you feel. Take care.

As someone who has struggled with depression most of my life, it does sound to me like you may be depressed. I'm sorry you're suffering - especially with panic attacks - they can be really scary to go through. It may be just a reaction to all the stressors in your life, but if it goes on much longer, I would get in touch with your doctor. I fought it for years on my own because I was too scared/proud to ask for help, but the moment I did get the help I needed I was like another person. I was the person I always wished I could be. I'm not saying that you're in the same boat as me, I just mean if it is something that keeps persisting, or if it comes in cycles, by all means don't be ashamed to get the needed help. Hope this doesn't sound too serious. I just know that dark place, and now that I'm out of it, I want to help anyone I can and let them know it will get better.

thanks ladies for all your support. I feel a bit better today. I got up at 6a.m. and went for a 6 mile run. Its put me in a better mindset. I noticed that my attitude gets crappy if i miss my morning workout. As far as workouts, i'm going to listen to my body and do what it feels like doing instead of making myself do a workout just b/c its scheduled for that day. Hopefully i will get back into the swing of things. If i continue to feel down, i will definately go see my doc.

Another suggestion? Just go out and do something fun! Something you enjoy that isn't a "workout." Go for a bike ride with a friend or family member or horseback riding, or anything else that's a favorite thing or just something new you had been wanting to try! Maybe getting out of the rut of the traditional exercise routine will help!
