unclean & fun Turkey day thread

Oh, for crying out loud, people! You completely missed the boat on Thanksgiving. It was way back in October. Jeez, you'd think you were in a different country or something!

Oh. Hang on. Oopsie! Never mind. Go on about your business.

*whistles nonchalantly*

Oh, even though it's technically NOT Thanksgiving here, I'm running 5 or 10 K or something. I promised Sarah and I don't want to incur her wrath.;)

I never used to be a big turkey and gravy fan until we started doing 2 things. 1. We brine the bird - wow - what a difference, and 2. we baste with a wonderful concoction. (3 sticks of melted butter and a whole bottle of white wine. Let it get good and hot then soak a cheese cloth in it. Cover the bird with said cheese cloth and baste with the remainder of the mixture.) You wouldn't believe how tasty the gravy got when we started this. So now, forget the rest, I'm happy with the turkey and gravy. That's my cheat and I love every bite. (Of course I'll start out the day with an IMAX though.)

DH makes the turkey and dressing every year....because he is just so much better at it then me;-) ;-) . I just sit back and enjoy it ....what a guy!!! We will probably be having some friends join us in our little feast. Friends, food and fun....who could ask for anything more??

Lorrie,

We always brine our poultry. Try it with chicken sometime. It's amazing what happens when you soak chicken breasts in a brine. Sooooo tender and juicy. The same with lean pork chops. I can't get over the difference it makes.;)

I am staying at home 'cause somehow I always volunteer to work the next day so that people with large family's can have the next day off. OK. Enough of my whining.

I still try to cook a large meal just because, that's how we grew up & there's no sense in changing nice traditions. This year however, I'm thinking I need to eat lighter. We pigged out during our last RT, you ladies would be horrified. Heck! I'm still horrified. But it was all so tasty & fun!
