Two best DVD's for building muscle

Happy July 4!
I bought a used Body Max video on Ebay recently and I love Cathe's workouts. I do some sort of cardio every day for at least one hour(swimming, biking, running or cross trainer). I am a farmer, I raise dairy goats and make bath and body products using goat's milk. I think I have great endurance but I need to work on building muscle. This will make lifting/carry bags of feed easier and wrestling the bad boy goat bucks!

I can afford two DVD's right now and I need some help making the decision. I am looking at the following DVD's

Pure Strength
Slow and Heavy
Power Hour
Pyramid Upper and Lower Body

Which two would be the best to buy that I could use for a rotation? Are there some better ones I have missed? Thanks for any advice,

I have all of the DVDs you listed here. My favorite are Pyramid Upper And Lower Body. The time flies by and they are so fun and effective. Matter of fact I'll be doing PUB this morning.

Slow and Heavy is just as the title says it is. I find I need to really concentrate when I use this series.

Pure Strength is a gym style workout.

I would say that Power Hour is an endurance workout so I'd get one of the other three listed since you said you need to build strength.

There are other ladies (Clare and Kathryn) who have used Cathe much longer than I have and will undoubtedly have much to add!

My vote is for the Pyramids right now. You'll get all of the rest when you can! My collection is almost complete.:) :) :D

S&H and Pyramids, hands down!!! Pyramids and Pure Strength are sort of similar, but Pyramids are newer and have a fresher variety (and better music). Plus, there is all the premixes on that one. S&H is just great for building muscle, IMO. I weighed the most when I did that series (muscle mass, of course).

Don't waste your time on Power Hour. That is all Endurance and similar to BodyMax.

Have fun!!

Hi there!

I have two suggestions:
1) Pure Strength and Slow & Heavy. If you are looking to buy two DVDs, these two are great. You can alternate them for a few weeks at a time to pack on the muscle.

2) The three Gym Style workouts (which would be roughly $80). These are excellent strength building workout, particularly GS Legs). The band work is sheer evil! }( There are also premixes on each DVD so you can concentrate on different goals.

Option 1 will give you more total workouts (6 compared to 3 in the Gym Styles) and provides more ab workouts. The more I think about it, option 1 might be the better bet. I've just been so impressed with the Gym Styles that I can't help but recommend them! :)

Hello and welcome to the forum. I see you are a NC girl; I am too!!

Of the four you are considering, I have PUB/PLB. I love those w/o's. You'll get a lot of good advice here.

I say go for SH and the Pyramids. I had my best success using those two series in combination. I would do SH during the week (sometimes one body part a day, sometimes two body parts a day), and the Pyramids on the weekend for two total body workouts a week.

I've never met a goat farmer before. Welcome to the boards!

Hello, Kaibic,

I would definitely recommend S&H for building strength & I want to lean towards Lunacat's #1 recommendation, but, I really think you also want some muscle endurance for your everyday activities. I'm sure you use your muscle strength for longer periods of time, such as you mentioned above "wrestling the bad boy goat bucks", & carrying these heavy feed bags around. That's where I feel Power Hour would come in. In fact, I think Cathe even mentions this in that workout & she makes an example of carrying heavy bags of groceries.

You could check out her rotations & look for one that is similar to your goals & see how she would work them in.

Hello,
I agree S&H for building strength and I'd either go with pyramids or PS series. You CAN'T go wrong with any Cathe purchase. :7 Good Luck!!

Definately Slow and Heavy (I'm on the last week of that rotation now and MAN, does it PUMP YOU UP!! :D )
and Pyramids.

LOVE THEM BOTH!!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I splurged and bought three DVD's instead of two.:D I think buying Cathe's DVD's could become addicting.

I decided on Slow and Heavy, The Pyramids and Power Hour.

Someone mentioned that they finished the "slow and heavy rotation" Where can I find this? Thanks again for the DVD recommendations!

For rotations go to the DVD/Video rotations forum and there should be a link to click on that has all her old rotations listed, but here is what I have seen some people do with the slow and heavy that I liked when I used them........

Monday: Slow and Heavy Legs and Shoulders (add 10 mins abs)
Tuesday: KPC (kickbox) or cardio of choice
Wednesday: S&H Back and Chest
Thursday: 60mins Cardio(running or biking)
Friday: S&H Triceps and Biceps
Saturday: Imax 2 plus 10mins abs of choice
Sunday: Rest

Basically you are just alternating one of the s&h with cardio the next day ----- and if you need more cardio, just do a quick 2 mile jog after you lift weights - (but the S&H is very challenging so I would just go as heavy as you can and you should feel pretty worked!!)

I also love love the Pyramids!!! I use that PUB almost once per week in all my rotations - if I need a challenge I just do a variation of the exercise for a change of pace!
