I need some help, I have a 12 pound turkey I took out of the freezer Monday but it is still hard as a rock!!!! how do I thaw it out in time for Thursday? I will just be crushed if I can't get it thawed out in time.
Yep! Cool water will work. Do it Thursday morning, as you don't want the turkey out of the frig for too long before you cook it. We've had to do that in years past too. Mine has been in the frig all week, and it still feels like a brick! LOL!!
Hi Leslie! Go to www.butterball.com; they have really helpful turkey hints! I think the cold water thawing method takes about 30 minutes per 5 lbs, or something like that. And I know you have to change the water every 30 minutes or so to keep it cool. You have to be really careful about not letting the turkey get warm--bacteria and stuff--blah! I have a big ol' 26 pounder in my fridge right now. I bought it frozen on Saturday, so I know there's no way it'll thaw by Thursday. I usually do the cold water method the day before and then just put it back in the fridge til Thursday. It's fine to put it back into the fridge once it's thawed.
