Finished the Take Charge of Your Fertility book. Awesome book. At some point, I'd like to use the technique for contraceptive,...for now as informative.

Today is CD1 (in other words AF arrived this AM). Perfect timing to check out the TCYF book concepts. ;) Even after a year of no conception, DH will not purse anything. He's content with three boys, and would entertain a 4th baby "if it happens". He's a no nonsense type of guy.

Anne, please keep us posted with DH's consult this week. Thanks for checking in. ;)

Autumn, your such a wealth of information.

Lisa, I"m bummed about the temp thing being before you get out of bed. :( Too bad you couldn't use an ear thermometer. Do use digital? Basal?

Maggie, congrats again! Are you feeling better? Morris, Kristan,...how are you preggos doing?!?!?

Hello to everyone else out there! Have a great Sunday, I hope it's as beautiful outside where your as it is here. A few big snowflakes falling onto the white ground, nestled along pine trees and other very tall tress. BEAUTIFUL! I just love it here. :)

Hi Ladies--

Thanks for your kind welcome:). You seem like a tight knit bunch (I mean that in a good way) and I've been lurking a while to try to get to know everyone.

This is baby number 7 for us. I feel sick, but amazingly I do not crave the usual 1st trimester junk food, so hopefully I won't gain as much weight as I usually do. I've been eating lots of carrots and mozzerella cheese and plain old-fashioned oats with craisins.

I pre-ordered STS. I'm really excited about it. I love intense cardio, but my body doesn't and as I age, I think I'm going to have to focus more on clean eating and weights and less cardio.

Melanie--that book sounds good. I'm interested in natural family planning. This baby may be it for us, but I want to do things naturally working with my body's own cycles.

I'll be praying for you all, whether you are pregnant or TTC.

Take care,
Maggie :)

Welcome back Maggie!!!!!!! Number 7, huh? That is the number of completeness, isn't it? Ha Ha. Little Jadon turns four this Thursday. You have a wealth of knowledge and experience for all of us. I"m excited that you'll be joining us! As far as age goes, are you even in your 40s?!?!?

Anne - I understand about needing to take a break. Do drop in and say hi because if not we'll really miss you!

Autumn - Thank you for the info! Just by what you said, my DH would rather settle for 2 then ever have to go in for sperm analysis. He's just like that. He's right now flatly refusing to even get snipped. Men, I tell you.

Melanie - Your DH sounds like mine about TTC. And yes, temp before doing anything and at approx. the same time every am is best. I bought a basal body therm. from WalMart for $8? It was pretty cheap and worth the investment. Good luck this cycle! Sorry about AF, but now you're all set to start your charting!

Maggie - Our bodies do definitley change with age! How old are all your kids? I hope your in-laws have decided to be more supportive. I totally believe how many kids a couple has is a personal decision and no one should "decide" for them unless the children are not being cared for or fed or abused, KWIM?

Morris - How has life been with DH home?

Hello everyone else!

I got 4 workouts in last week. Hoping for 5, but been busy with both kids in sports and dd in ballet. Eating has been good the last few days so I hope I keep that up. I got another positive on my opk yesterday and my temp dropped this am and we've been making sure we have our babymaking time so I'm hopeful this cycle. I finally am starting to ovulate on the same day, CD16. This is the 3rd month in a row I've ovulated on the same day. Makes timing so much better. The other months I knew we were out because I either ovulated earlier or later than expected. Please keep your fingers crossed for us!! Have a great Sunday ladies!!

Lisa

Hey Lisa - I got in the first week rotation for January! I'm going to skip to week 3 now, since I can't really run outside and that's in the second week. Any thoughts on what I could rotate in if I don't have Interal Max dvd? I know I could do IMAX2 or 3, but did that last week. Hmmm...

Nice job on getting in 4 workouts! That's awesome to do especially since you have kids! I find it hard with out kids under foot. Good luck this month. Sounds like your ovulation day is getting to be consistent, so that's good! I should be ovulating sometime this weekend, maybe Friday/Saturday, but I'll be leaving for WI to see my Mom in the nursing home, so we'll see if we can get some BD in Thursday and just cross the fingers!

I know what you mean about men too. It was hard enough getting DH in for 2 sperm analysis already. He IS willing to go under the knife though to increase the sperm count. Funny how surgery is no big deal, but providing a sample in a cup is like the end of the world! But, I don't have that kind of 'pressure' either, so I wouldn't know.

If it was up to DH to do charting, cervical checks, etc.... we wouldn't have had ANY kids. Ha. He's a great daddy, just not maternal in those kinda ways. What an awesome act of love, Anne, that you DH is willing to go through all that. :D :D

Lisa, is your thermometer digital? My digital does to 0.1 degrees, so that should be a good start. I think I will do modified temp charting,...starting on day 3-5 of cycle and every other day or so after ovulation. I'll check for mucosal and cervix position changes daily. We'll see how it goes.

<<Thank you for the info! Just by what you said, my DH would rather settle for 2 then ever have to go in for sperm analysis. He's just like that. He's right now flatly refusing to even get snipped. Men, I tell you.>>

Lisa ~ You are welcome. Just a bit of info, it is possible to collect a sample for a semen analysis via a natural act of intercourse. Some doctors are not supportive (for various reasons not supported by scientific evidence) and/or knoweldgeable of this option, but it is an option. In most cases, men are more comfortable and willing with this than the other collection procedure. Of course, NFP-only doctors are in most cases more knowledgeable about this procedure of collection than other docs. Feel free to PM me for more information even if is just out of curiosity. ;-)

I think I am going to attend a special Valentine's Mass for infertile couples. Our Archdiocese is very supportive and even offers a support group for infertile women/couples..... mostly women attend. I will remember each of you TTC and expecting if I attend.

I've been really good with my eating. My workout week is bit odd (Thursday-Tuesday).... don't ask me why but I am more productive. (shrugs shoulders & rolls eyes:)). This is what I am doing:
Thursday:Total body workout + 30 minutes additional cardio
Friday:Circuit workout + 30 minutes additional cardio
Saturday:All Cardio
Sunday:Total body workout + 30 minutes additional cardio
Monday:Circuit workout + 30 minutes additional cardio
Tuesday: All Cardio
WEdnesday:REST

So far, I've completed Thursday through Sunday. It is a rotation Imafitnessfreak posted re: her post-partum routine. I hope to add a couple of days of yoga but may not get it in.

Ok, I'm finished rambling.

Hope you have a great week.

Melanie - As long as you use the same thermometer to start with, it should be okay. I did find my bbt(basal body therm)to be a little bit more accurate and reliable. The bbt reads 98.56 instead of 98.6 which makes it a little more accurate. Sounds like you're off to a good start!

Anne - I don't have the original IMAX either, but have heard the intensity matches IMAX3. I don't know about doing IMAX3 again since that one can be hard on your knees with all the jumping. I would do something like the Scrambled Eggs premix on BM2 since that's pretty high cardio. Good job with keeping up with the rotation. I haven't been able to devote the time needed with the rotation and I was only on week one! How sad!

Lisa

Nice job on the workouts Autumn, that's great! I do the same thing with rotations. Usually rest on a week day as I can get more done on the weekends too!

Melanie - I agree with Lisa that the Basal Body thermometers are the most accurate, but the other is a good start! Just don't let the temping get obsessive! }( I think my problem was that I was trying to interpret too much in the 2WW. I suppose I could temp up until 3 days after ovulation and then stop and it wouldn't be a problem! Checking the cervix opening is o.k., but be sure to do that around the same time each day as they say the position shifts throughout the day. You can check the CM anytime during the day and they say to do it a few times and write down the most fertile of the two. I've learned a lot being on FF.

Lisa - Yup, you can give a sample naturally. My RE has special condoms that they give you to use, but we haven't tried it that way yet. I guess I never mentioned that option to DH yet. Wasn't sure how well it would work since he hates those things to begin with.

Well, got some Step intervals in today and High step training to make up for the time off I'll have on Friday and Saturday. Here's the rest of my week!

Cycle 50 min/Coremax 1
Legs & Glutes
Kick Max
BodyMax
Maybe get some Yogalaties in...

Anne, what's FF? I"ve always thought of myself as a good CM analyzer. It'll be interesting to see if the temps agree. ;) Ha Ha. I was most amazed at the authors view that LP is consistent amongst women and 18 days of higher temps post ovulation usually indicates pg. Fascinating.

Do they make a digital basal thermometer? I didn't realize they read to hundredths.

I"m sure I will rely on you experts within the next month to help me decipher my graphs. Ha Ha. It will be good experience for contraceptive means in the future as I don't handle artifical hormones well (and we've tried almost every barrier method out there).

Anne, I am the same way. I am so much more productive with my workouts with this schedule. I think it is because this is all I really have on my "to do" list on the weekends.... well, there is a lot less than during the week. Ok, so I am not the only one. :)

Yay, your RE has the special condoms. That is refreshing.... hmmmm, that sounds odd huh?.... so many docs are opposed to this way of collecting. I suspect there are men who would prefer to use the condom and some who wouldn't.

Isn't is all amazing Melanie? This is why I love reproductive health.

My digital, by BD, reads to the tenths. This is the brand recommended by a few of the NFP methods.

Is the BD thermometer a "basal" thermometer then? How long does it take to get a reading? I sound so lazy, don't I? Ha Ha

Melanie - FF is FertilityFriend.com. That's where I chart all my stuff and keep in contact with another group of ladies TTC their first child. A lot of us there have fertility issues, so it's nice to have the support and see what everyone is doing to increase their chances. It's free to chart stuff there and if you want to do more with it, then you pay something monthly for that service. I do like the way they track your charts and stuff, but that's when I got a bit obsessive!

The basal thermometer seems to take longer than a normal one. Maybe it's b/c I'm so tired in the morning, but seems to take 5 minutes! I lay it on my pillow while it's in my mouth b/c I'm not quite awake. Now that's lazy! ;)

Yes. Here is the one I have:
http://www.amazon.com/BD-Digital-Basal-Thermometer/dp/B0000533AY

It is quick..... 1 minute.

Maggie, I have a copy of TCOYF if you'd like it. I went ahead and purchased the 10th Anniversary Edition when I was taking the Marquette Model Teacher training course. This is the 2002 Revised Edition. I haven't compared the 2002 with the 2006 but I'm betting the info hasn't changed much. You are welcome to it. I found a pretty good online ebook that I can give you too.

Autumn, that's so sweet of you to loan your book out! Our friend, shopaholic, borrowed hers to me. I hope she doesn't mind that I've used my pink highlighter in it!!!!!!!!!! It's the 2002 edition

what a busy group of conceivers it is. and it is only monday!!! i am sending lots of pregnancy wishes everyones way. i have a good feeling about this month.

well, it is a snowy monday here and i am at work, about to go into an emergency. sick kitty. this will be short but i wanted to say hello. sounds like maggie is the only one who preordered yet? anyone else interested or not? i leaning more and more to not. it is a struggle to do what i try to do now most of the time.

dh was here and is now gone for 2 days. he will be back, then gone for a week. sighhhhh. could be worse i guess.

last weeks workouts went great - lots of running, kb, and hi lo. also, did week 2 of gym stykes. this week will be more of the same hopefully. i had a great 9 mile run this am - it felt so good, even though i am quite a bit slower now. my eating is going well, but i need to add in more veggies. for some reason i am not eating as many, even though i love them. this baby does not like them too much i think:) anyone have tips to get more in?

gotta run, but i will bbl!

<<Autumn, that's so sweet of you to loan your book out!>>

Oh- Maggie can have it. When/if she gets it and doesn't want it, she can gift it to someone else.

Morris, glad to see you are doing better.

Morris - I did pre-order. Just because I don't go to a gym and my basement IS my gym, so I like to have a variety of things to do. This new set from Cathe, sounds a bit like a P90X type thing where you do 3 months at a time, but hers sound like all weights and no cardio or other stuff. Anyone agree? I haven't even mastered the last set of dvd's I got from Cathe, so I suppose I should take those out, but I'm not sure I like them so much.

Glad you're feeling better these days, but be sure you take it easy too!

Autumn - I went ahead and ordered the TCOYF book too...I know a lot, but I wonder if there's anything that I'm missing!

Hi Lisa, Melanie!

I had my second acupuncture appointment for this cycle. Not temping is actually going pretty well too. DH is 'approaching' me a bit more, since there's not so much stress and pressure to perform 'on command', so that's nice. I may just take a few temps here and there in the 2WW, we'll have to see. I should be O on Saturday, so I'll be in WI :( , but we'll have to get some BD in Thursday and Friday morning before I leave!

Mom is in the hospital again for her trach tube. Seems now she's spitting up blood, so they need to figure out where that's coming from. They're trying to say she has Asthma and it's causing the blood, but I just don't think that sounds right. So anyway, I'll be visiting her and watching my nieces play basketball this weekend. It'll be a nice break from things.

I'll let you know how DH appointment comes out on Friday!

Chat later,

Melanie--I'm 39 and will be 40 when this baby is born. I'm feeling my age:p .

Lisa--Our kids are 13 1/2 (ds), 11 (dd), 8 1/2 (dd), 6 (ds), 4(ds) and 2 (dd). The family will just have to deal with it. They worry that I'm overwhelmed, but I've been overwhelmed for about since I was born. I'm a drama queen. It's my personality.}( }( }( .

Ann--If I were a man and had to get the sperm in a cup, I'd find it hard too. I hope all goes well with his procedures. That sounds worrisome with your mom. I hope that the doctors diagnose her correctly and treat her accordingly and that she heals up well. I'm glad you can be with her.

Autumn--I'm definitely interested in the book. NFP is the only form of BC I feel okay with--not judging anyone at all, just a personal thing.

Morris--I'm amazed at your workouts, but I remember being amazed the last time we were pregnant together too. You must be in phenomenal shape. How far along are you?

take care all
Maggie:)
