Tried Kettlebell Way DVD

Well, today I did the Kettlebell Way DVD for the first time--I'm definitely going to be sore tomorrow! I enjoy the newness of of it and I love how it works the core, glutes and shoulders. It's a great change of pace.

That being said, watching the DVD reinforced to me how high Cathe sets the bar in the production of her workouts. Lightyears above anything I've seen! The audio and picture, set, and even the coaching of the instuctors don't even compare. There are no premixes or anything on the Kettlebell DVD, which I knew when I bought it, and I knew the price was high for what I was getting--I just wanted something new.

So, my review is that it's a great workout, but Cathe has spoiled us!

Kelly

Oooooohhhhh! I just got this in the mail yesterday and bought my first kettlebell yesterday too! I can't wait to try it! Thanks for the review.

I agree that Cathe's production quality has completely spoiled me. Nothing else seems to be as good! I am just looking for something new to give me killer doms! }(

I previewed it. It looks good but I am going to start with my Iron Core work outs first. I am putting 1 KB work out a week into my current rotation in place of regular f/b weight work out. Ofcourse you will probably never find another instructor who produces such great quality as Cathe but that doesn't mean the work outs aren't goodies. Gotta take the good with the bad. I'd go nuts if I didn't have about a gazillion different options to choose from. I have exercise ADD, you know. :p

I just got my DVD in the mail and my kettlebell from Target yesterday, so I'll be using it for the first time on Saturday. I'm so excited! Like Wendy, I'll be using it once a week at first to see how it goes. I was warned about being really sore the next day!}( And, yes, Cathe really does spoil us!

Kell,

I did this DVD yesterday and was thinking the same thing about the production value!! Although I do have to say, it's light years from the production value of the Iron Core DVD's.

It's a solid workout, though, so I keep doing it. I just love how it gets my heart rate up and works those muscles!

And just a warning: if you're anything like me, you'll be sore for a good week ;).

Wow, oh wow! I just got done doing The KB Way for the first time, and it was a fantastic workout! Even though everyone had mentioned it, I was still surprised at how it got my heart rate up. I can tell that I'm going to be feeling this one tomorrow for sure.

I ended up subbing regular swings in the bonus round for the cleans since I was pretty tired by that point. I was also disappointed that there was no cool-down or stretch, so I just pulled out Muscle Max and did the stretch from that. Thanks for the recommendation, everyone!:)

Leanne, don't tell me it's a fantastic workout! I'm trying to resist investing in MORE equipment. Okay, so tell me, what weight kettlebell did you buy? Do you use just one KB during the workout?

Sarah ;-)

Hi,

I tried to see the preview from that link but couldn't find it...:-(

Leanne:

What weight did you start with? did it seem hard or easy?

Deb

Oops! Sorry, Sarah!;-) I forgot that I'm not supposed to be enabling anyone!}(

For this workout, you only need to get one KB. I ended up getting a 15-pound Go Fit KB from Target that cost around $40. The actress who is in The KB Way workout says on their website that she's been using a 12-pound one for all her training, but I was worried that that might be too light. The 15-pound one seemed perfect for me! The only exercises that were hard for me were the windmills, where you hold the KB up straight with one arm, while going into a triangle-like pose.

I generally lift a bit lighter than Cathe with arm work, so if you can keep up with Cathe, then maybe try an 18-pound KB. I'm a weakling, though, so the 15 seems like it'll hold me for awhile!;-)

Deb, try this link and see if it gets you to the sample clip:

OK, I'll stop my enabling for the day! The workout was just so much darn fun, though!}(

I'm like you Leanne, I generally lift a bit lighter than Cathe with arm work. I justify this by telling myself that at 5' 8", my leavers are longer than hers, so my energy output is greater ;-) LOL

I think that 15-pound would be the heaviest I would go at this point. They happen to have kettlebells at our base PX; they are calling to me.

Thanks for the info, Leanne, you enabler, you }(

Sarah

Yes, I think that 15-pound one is calling to you, Sarah! It's got your name all over it since it knows you would give it a good home!;-)

A less-advanced modification for this is to put the KB in the bottom arm (at first, it's usually difficult to use the same weight for this move, or for the Turkish Get-up, as for other moves).
