tracy anderson - what?!

NY25

I was watching a bit of the Tracy Anderson presentation on QVC the other day. The workouts look kind of odd, but she said the strangest thing during the presentation. She said, "why make your muscles stronger than they need to be?". What?!?! What the heck does that even mean and more importantly, why not? I don't get it.

Wha?????????? How do I know how strong they need to be? I might need to move something heavy one day. Or, I might want them to support my joints in my old age. That doesn't make a lick of sense.

weird. For myself, I am not into making my muscles huge like competition standards...but a nice strong muscle is terrific... She does not sound like someone I could follow fitness-wise.

I have been a Cathe fan for years and have done STS 2X and love it. I have been doing TA's Meta Omni and have seen really good results. I have dropped 2 jean sizes and lost maybe 6 lbs. But it is the way my clothes fit that impresses me the most. People have been commenting on how I look. TA says some weird things granted but her method works. I have not really changed what I eat--I eat well to begin with so not really an issue. While I have not been lifting heavy I notice that I have not lost any strength gains. Her workouts take a little getting used to but now I love them.

I may have an idea of why she said that. I watched her once on QVC and she made a point to say that you need to do everthing you can to prevent stretching of the skin on the upper arms as that would lead to "bat wings" or whatever your term is. Frankly I want my muscles as strong as possible since as much as we try to control it we will lose some muscle mass as we age. I did buy her system and tried it a couple of times, hmmm, weird. Some people have had extraordinary luck with it. I think I am going to try starting it again today.

Phyllis, I am curious, do you prefer the asthetic of the way your body is looking now as compared to when you were doing STS? How far are you into the Omni System, is it a few weeks or months?

Yes I feel I look better-- slimmer and more toned. I don't think I have lost strength as I am still moving heavy furniture (we have an antiques and interior design business so I move and carry a lot of heavy items). You do cardio every day with the Meta program for half an hour and while I don't always do Tracy's dance I will walk with Leslie for 2 or 3 miles daily. Also for some reason and I have no idea why I am just not as hungry. I am not following Tracy's diet suggestions at all. Clothes I had not been able to wear for the past couple of years are now too big. I have to admit it seems wacky but I am enjoying the result.
I am at the end of Transform 2 Day 50. It goes thru Transform 3 Day 90. Then she has a continuity program that I have not signed on to. Yet.
I am doing Omni.

Wow!!! I am impressed, I know her videos usually take a while to do, are they very long? I am tempted to start doing her workouts.

The meta series has 30 minutes of muscular structure work and 30 minutes of dance cardio. Her other series (post pregnancy, Perfect Design Series, Mat, and other dance cardios come in at just under an hour. HTH

I agree!
I have a few TA workouts, and she has talked about muscles stretching the skin creating a space for sag later. I just shake my head and wish she would shut up!:D She is way out there!
I like to use her workouts to mix things up, but I personally will not give up traditional weight training now as I approach menopause.
There are too many health benefits to weight lifting.
