Tough Strength-Training DVD Recommendations?

I LOVE Muscle Max and recently picked-up a used copy of Supersets/Push Pull for a little variety. I did Supersets today, but didn't find it to be nearly as challenging as MM. Can anyone recommend Cathe workouts that would be on-par with MM? I generally only do weight workouts 2-3 days/week, since most of my workouts are running-oriented, so I like to make the most of the days I do my strength-training.

Neither SS or PP are very tough on their own, but there are some premixes that will make you cry for mercy. Try the PP Upper Only or PP Lower Only x 3 - I did the PP Lower x 3 and thought I saw stars a few times. WOW!!!

Judy JAFitMama put together an Upper Body Blast that you can also do - that is guaranteed to produce DOMs - It's a little over an hour. So while the workouts as is are not exactly challenging there is a lot of variety on this one DVD and since you have it, you may as well enjoy it...

PP/SS UPPER BODY BLAST: (Use the Mix and Match Menus)

CHEST:
PP warm up
PP Bench press x 3 20# DB
PP chest flies x 2 20# DB
SS chest flies x 1 15# ( could have used 20#)

BACK:
PP Dead rows x 2 45# BB
SS pull overs x 2 25# BB
PP one arm rows x 2 each side 25# DB
PP Fonz x 2 3# DB

SHOULDERS:
PP inverted shoulder press x1
PP front delt raise x 2 15# DB on SB
PP rear delt raise x 2 5# DB
SS seated overhead press x2 15# DB
SS rotator exercises x 1 5# DB
SS shoulder work on SB x 1 5# DB

TRICEPS:
SS lying tricep extension x 2 10# DB
PP dips then Kickbacks x 2 #8 DB
SS seasaw pushups on SB x 1 (this whole sequence got my triceps really tired.)

BICEPS:
PP hammer AND traditional curls x 2 12# DB
SS concentration curls x 1 12# DB (by now the biceps are FRIED)

ABS:
SS all four ab exercises
PP abs on SB

PP stretch
 
Maximum Instensity Strength leaves me with DOMS like you wouldn't believe. It is an older workout and the clothes are....dated...but it is still a killer workout. Fitprime's Weights First is also one of the more challanging wieght workouts. I don't know if it is still for sale, but well worth the purchase.

Oh, that is a GREAT suggestion! I was wondering if that would give me a bit of a challenge--glad to hear it does!

And I have thought about purchasing MIS/PH/BM DVD in the past. I might just go ahead and do that soon. Looks like it would kick my butt HARD!

And yes - the MIS/PH/BM DVD is a fabulous DVD. Every single one of those workouts are stars. I in the middle of a love affair with PH - which is a muscle group per song (with 90 gazillion - or 126 give or take squats alone). MIS as already stated is a fabulous one, and Body Max is a wonder when you want a 90 minute fryer. So you can't go wrong.
 
I would also recommend MIS. It is an awesome total body workout that you will definitely feel the next day!

Guess what I just found for $20 used on eBay (they have several more copies)...?! I can't wait! I doubt I will use BM, since I have a really small living room and am super uncoordinated, so step workouts are not my thing, but I am super excited to try the other two. I think they will be great to rotate with MM and then use SS/PP for days when I want a somewhat easier workout.

I got noticable results from a 4 week Slow and Heavy rotation. It's the opposite of the other workouts. Instead of a bunch of reps you do heavier weights with less reps. And you perform each exercise very slowly so you really feel it. I think it's a good shock to the system and a nice change.

I've really considered getting this in the past and think it would be a nice contrast to the higher-rep/lower-weight DVDs. That will probably be my next purchase.

Just finished PH for the first time. Reminds me a lot of Muscle Max, but I think I prefer Muscle Max. With that said, I am feeling very shaky and I think PH is gonna make my triceps hurt a LOT more than MM does. So a good rotation. I hope to try MIS in a few days.

The only problem I have with Slow and Heavy is it is VERY slow. I don't have much patience, and the long rest periods are tough to get used to. It is a great workout for muscle gains. Finally gave me some cuts in my bird arms. :)
 
I find the rep count in Slow&Heavy to be too slow as well so I modify and instead of doing a 6-2 count, I just do everything in a 4-4 count...much better for me mentally. I'd also look into getting the Pyramid dvd, it's great!
 
If you like MM, then you should love the Gym Style strength training workouts also, which are from the same series and represent an appropriate level of difficulty for you. The music is great, the variety of exercises and tempos is excellent and the use of the band provides an extra challenge for both upper and lower body. Better than MIS in my opinion.

Muscle Endurance is similar to MM and you would probably like that one also. It's tough on the lower body, tougher than MM for lower body.
