Touch of the flu & rest

I know rest is underrated but it's been awhile since I've been sick. It feels like the flu but no vomitting or diarrhea thankfully. Right now I have the chills & I'm hunkered down in my bed moaning LOL! But later I will get hot. And achy the whole time. Cardio & weights are out...I have zero energy. Should I just keep on with passive rest or maybe try some light stretching?
I had some big rides planned this weekend so I am super bummed. At least Le Tour starts tomorrow, that is a bright spot!

Drink lots of fluids, nap, get rest. (It may feel 'passive,' but your immune system will be given the opportunity to actively fight off whatever is ailiing your). And don't get back into things too soon.

thanks, Kathryn. and you are not kidding...there is some fighting going on. i took a nap right after I wrote this and was freezing cold. when I woke up maybe an hour later I was soaking wet & I've been hot ever since. no fun, no fun.

ITA with Kathryn. Allow your body time to get well. A few days or so won't kill your workout progress. Rest, rest, rest, fluids, fluids, fluids.

I hope you feel better soon!

So guess what? I didn't have the flu. It was all from a spider bite! Crazy huh? I knew when it happened but thought I got stung. Had no idea it was a spider til this wknd so went to dr today & am on antibiotic.

I was going to say my husband's feeling exactly like you, but I think he has the flu vs a spider bite. Did you have any sort of visible wound or red mark or anything?

oh yes, I noticed it right away, but dismissed it because I thought I was stung by a bee or something. a spider bite not cross my mind. i mostly ride on trails, but this time I was riding my road bike so the setting didn't matter. by the time I went to the doc, the bite was too scabbed up for her to see bite marks, but if you catch it soon enough, docs can see the two teeth marks w/ their high-powered light. i was prescribed an antibiotic, Augmentin, and it is kicking in. mainly in my stomach, hah! i still don't have my energy back but am going for a short mtn bike ride tonight, easy pace.
is your husband vomitting? fever/chills? diarrhea? if so, he probably has the flu. the bite I have is abt the size of a small pea and it is now red all the way around it and a bit tender to the touch, but not bad really. it was not like that right away. hope he feels better!

I hope you feel better. You can ice a spider bite to help relieve the pain/itching. I used to get ant bites (no kidding!) when I lived in FL that left huge red welts that took 3 months to heal. Ice made it hurt less.

He had the fever and chills. What's weird is he feels fine today. I'm glad he feels better, of course, I just thought flus generally stuck around a bit longer. He seems to have been coming down with something off and on for a little while. I hope this is the last of it.

Ohhhh nooo! When I first started reading this I was thinking a flu at this time of the year? I have been bitten by spiders, especially riding through low tunnels or early in the morning before other riders (I call them cob-cleaners...haha) but it isn't funny and I've carried a few spiders in the vents of my helmet that subsequently bit me too and had the same reaction as you. Awful, achy, hot and feeling miserable. My husband's name on this forum is *spidertaxi* because that's what he calls me for real.

I hope you are all better, and I'm sorry you missed your rides... that is such a bummer.
