Top Ten Classic Rock Songs

>All of these bands have many songs in their catalogs soooo
>much better than those on the list.

Agreed. I would also say, "Where's the Who? Where's Rush?" I love to air-drum to those two bands.

:)

Seems like I can think of 10 different Pink Floyd tunes that should have made it in place of comfortably numb

Definitely seems like a van halen tune should have been in there

Sorry Robin, I don't think Canada likes Jimmy Buffet!

They must not like the red hot chili peppers either!;(

I can't believe Loverboy beat out rhcp and the clash

I would place Run DMC/Aerosmith's "Walk this way" on the list. The song rekindled Aerosmith's careers as well as putting Rap music on the mainstream. I actually think it was one of the more influential musical moves of the years.

Led Zeppelin had a few other songs that were much better than "stairway" but heck that was the "prom song" for a couple of years

I would have replaced Sgt Peppers... with Helter Skelter but then again I've always had an ear for hard rock, metal rock, acid rock, punk rock rap and hip-hop. Mellow classic rock just doesn't do it for me. The local classic rock station should change their mantra to "It doesn't have to be good, it just has to be old" Thank God for satelite radio

The saddest thing is Eric Clapton and his acoustical work lately, give it up Eric! You don't have it to rock anymore!

I think that's probably because neither of those bands are really considered 'classic rock'... the Chilis are alternative rock and the Clash are a punk band, so the listeners perhaps didn't think they qualified as classic rock.

ETA - Loverboy are probably higher on the list than they should be because they're Canadian.

Really hard to find too much fault with this list. One of my favorite Aerosmith songs is "Back in the Saddle".

Jerry

I definitely agree with Layla, Sympathy for the Devil, and I can see Hotel California being there too, and Bohemian Rhapsody. Okay, Whole Lotta Love probably needs to be there too. But the others just don't belong in the top 10, IMHO. I know people used to go nuts for Stairway, but I never understood it.

I would add the Janis Joplin song "Take Another Piece of My Heart" or whatever it's called, and "Purple Haze" by Hendrix, "Sunshine of Your Love" by Cream, "Whiter Shade of Pale" by Procol Harum. Am I showing my age?

ETA: Oh my goodness! Tracey is right! I forgot the Doors!
ETAA: and the Who! Can't we have the top 25? Or 50?

I'm adding Soft Parade, Won't Get Fooled Again, Maggie Mae and LA Woman to my list. And My Generation. I think I surpassed 10.

I love "Whiter Shade of Pale". Great tune, I agree with the poster who wanted a woman who rocks it. How about Heart's "Magic Man?" Wow, great song, so is Barracuda. Oh, and Sabbath too. They were awesome back in the day. I guess we could all go on and on, I love music.

Ok Robin, you can put Hotel California on the top ten-I actually love the songwriting:7 It just brings back weird memories to me each and everytime I hear it, so I have an "association" problem with it!;-)

Robin, I agree Good Vibrations was Brian Wilson at the height of his genius.

I actually don't like most of the songs I mentioned, just thought they were very classically classic.

My actual favorites would never make the top 10:
Favorite Beatle song: I've Got A Feeling
Favorite Stones song: Monkey Man
Favorite Clapton song: Bell Bottom Blues
Favorite Doors song: Break On Through

Dave, it can't be worse than my radio choices. Maybe I should look into satellite radio for me - I was going to get it for dh for his birthday, since he loves news/talk radio.

Our station says "the best of the new and classic rock" Yeah right, they only play stuff that is at least 25 years old. And that's the only stinkin' rock station in my area. All the rest are rap or COUNTRY ;( I would love to find some more new bands to listen to.

200 channels of non commercial stations. Music all genres, sports, talk, shock jocks. If you have broadband internet, you can listen through your computer for free.

Coming in 2008 Dodge caravans, Sirius satellite tv for backseat viewing, 6 channels of youth oriented programming.... sure beats license plate bingo or 100 bottles of beer on the wall.

sounds like a commercial, no I don't own an interest in the company. LOL
