OK, I love my Top Chef! But for some reason this season has really been disappointing!:-( I do not know whether its the cast members...I really do not like the mix of people they have this season. They all seem so angry and yes, Jerry, you are right! The swearing is just plain stupid now, they are constantly bleeping the contestants...plus is it me, or are they not showing enough of Chef Tom? It seems the judges aren't having as much fun or something? They booted off one of the cool personalites--the guy who made the soggy corndogs, he was cool. And I don't have anything against lesbians at all, but that one with the shark fin hair has such a bad personality, they should have kept her girlfriend on the show to add a little interest at least! Spike is kinda cool, but wow, I am soo disappointed in this season.

I think last season was awesome with the San Diego chef, Brian, Hung, Casey and the rest. It was so much fun to watch, but this season just seems "angry" or something. Anyone else think so too?

ITA! I love Top Chef - one of the 3 shows I watch - but lately I've just been DVRing it and using it as one of my "on the elliptical" shows. Too much drama and cussing. And what is up with that guy Dale acting like he's from the 'hood? It seems like an act to me.

Top Chef is on Bravo...and yeah, Dale? Whatta fool. The whole show this season seems phony to me.:-(

Yeah, tneah, that's exactly how I'd describe it- phony! I'm bored with it... What a bummer! It's been so good in the past. *sigh*

I typically love Top Chef too, but this season is really just blah for me. I don't really like any of the contestants and I could really care less who wins as of right now. Also, I know that this is the fourth season and the writers/producers might have a hard time coming up with challenges, but these challenges are just horrible. All of these group activities and lame challenges. For some reason that challenge where they had to run around the neighborhood and raid people's pantry and then make food for a block party was just wrong. I would hate to be the one that went home during that challenge because really how does that show your ability as a chef? Blech! I'm over it but I will continue to watch in the hopes that it gets better.

Like any "reality show," a successful season is largely due to the casting. I also think that this season is flat. However, I watched an episode of "Hell's Kitchen" and it gave me a reality check. Even a so-so season of Top Chef is better than that hideous show.

I've been really disappointed with the challenges this year. It seems that most of the challenges involve some sort of catering and traveling with food to various destinations. Tailgate parties, block parties, museum events. These chefs aren't caterers, they're chefs. Remember last season when the chefs got to cook those wonderful meals for world-class chefs? Remember the one where they were at the Culinary Institute? That was so great. I say, bring back the great challenges!

Hear, hear! Those challenges were awesome! I agree, the chefs are not caterers, they are chefs for heavens sake. I daresay, the cool guy with the earrings and the soggy dogs would not have been eliminated had the challenge not required them to transport the food like that!
Having said that, I did sort of find the zoo challenge pretty neat, but probably because I love animals!:)

I still enjoy the show--I'm not much for reality TV but I really do enjoy watching very talented people, & Top Chef is one of the few reality contests that isn't 90% talk, 10% talent.

But I do agree re. the personalities. I'm trying to find someone to root for but they're all so unlikable! I did like the better half of the lesbian couple & might have rooted for her, but ITA about Shark Fin girl, she's just too obnoxious.

Oh well. It's still relatively early & maybe one of the contestants will grow on me. In the meantime I'll keep drooling over all that fabulous looking & sounding food! ;-)
