Took the Plunge

Okay, guys, I did it. What so many of you have been urging me to do:

I BOUGHT A STEP!!!! :-jumpy

It hasn't come yet. I don't know what possessed me. (I know Connie was very convincing. Thanks Connie ;-) ) It's the regular club step in black and grey. I also ordered a Keli Roberts step video. Some of you told me that it's all low impact and still an intense workout and that the footwork isn't fancy. Lord knows when I'll be ready for a Cathe step video. (For those of you who don't know me, I have most of Cathe's strength training workouts.)

I was so bored of the treadmill at the gym I haven't been able to get myself to go lately, so I had to do something!!

Tomorrow, Christmas, I'll be ruthlessly cleaning and throwing things away to make room for my new addition!!

I had never even done step before jumping in & trying Cathe. I say if you like her, you'll figure out her choreography. Take it one step (no pun intended) at a time.

Enjoy your step! You won't be sorry!

By the way, I added another post to your "weird workout" thread on the video board.

I'm ready to take the next step! http://www.smilies-world.de/Smilies/Smilies_klein_1/a_smil09.gif

An original club step is one of the simplest and best investments you can make. Good for you!

I too would get bored with the gym treadmill, after about 10 minutes! Welcome to the Step Gang!

Now, of course, you'll have to buy all of Cathe's step workouts, and CTX, and Rhythmic Step, and Circuit Max, and The Intensity Series . . . the genie's out of the bottle!

OOOh Nancy...very cool..

My sis only runs, usually on a gym treadmill, and she has had severe burnout lately. I had her over to do IMAX once, thinking she would really like this type of workout, and she was kinda lost. But, I can think back WAY to the begginning when I did not know they moves and Cathe wasn't as much fun. BUT...

Not only did I get her an Original Club Step, (that includes Cathe's All Step) but also some RYKA Stylus aerobic shoes cuz she does not have any and I know she would never go buy any. That was alot of $$ in and of itself, but still I was going to give her one of my Cathe tapes to start her off. She is very thin and I am trying to encourage her more on the weights side of things, so I wanted to give her S&H. But, I am really embarrassed to say that I CANNOT PART WITH ANY OF MY CATHE TAPES!!!
Last year, I gave her four Firm tapes, a whole set of dumbells, and a tall box. She lost 40 lbs from this!! So now she thinks that it is the only thing that works and I am trying to get her to see that Cathe's world is so much funner! I think I will start having her over on Sat. or something to start doing the workouts with her and see which one she likes. Hopefully she will agree.

I don't ask people what they want for X-mas..I just give them what I want...YOU will LOVE your step. I would never settle for less..

Hi Nancy!

You won't be sorry!!! I love doing step more than any other cardio. I ran for 10 years straight with DH and one day I just didn't feel like it anymore. Then I bought some Cathe step tapes (which DH never wanted to attempt) and I bought a step and I haven't stopped yet! Actually, my step is a shorter one, but I asked my son for the Original Step for Christmas, so I'll find out tonight if I got it!!!!

As far as the livingroom......I used to try and hide the weights and mats, etc, but when the step came, I just decided to convert my livingroom to a workout room. I realized that I will be doing this for the rest of my life, so why try to make it look temporary? Luckily, I have a little more room or I would be adding on an addition!

Have fun with it!

You won't be sorry!!!! I just got my new step yesterday - the exact same one you got and I love it. I'd been doing Cathe's workouts on another step, but this one is wonderful!!! I did Imax today and Thurs. will be Rhythmic Step. Order the workouts - you're going to have a great time getting more fit.

Nancy,
RIGHT ON!!!!! Excellent investment! Can't wait to chat about Cathe's step tapes with you!

Janice-
What a good sister you are. You are lovely for trying to help your sister in such a positive way!

LAST EDITED ON Dec-24-02 AT 02:41PM (Est)[p]Hello Everyone in Step Land,
Just wanted to add my 2 cents and also try to get rid of some of my frustration.
My step came yesterday and yes I love it, BUT I can only use it as a weight bench for now.
I had been working out with Dennis Austin and Kathy Smith tapes for 3 months--six days a week. Then I came across CATHE tapes on the Web! I ordered 5 step tapes and continued my 6 days a week schedule. I love her tapes. They are so much fun and I love to sweat. It feels like I am really doing something. I am 41, have 6 kids, and had been pretty inactive for awhile--at least exercise wise. I am not overweight 5'5" and 128lbs, just out of shape--no muscles and no cardio strength.
Well--as we all know Cathe is in a different league than the other tapes I was doing. After 4 weeks of doing her tapes 6 days a week, my feet gave out on me. So now I have a terrific new step and can't even use it to do the step tapes.
I am doing the last 30 minutes of Bodymax--upper body strength work--3 times a week. But my feet will probably take several weeks of rest to start stepping again. And then I will only be doing step tapes every other day so I don't stress my feet again.
Okay--I will stop complaining now.
You will love your new step Nancy. It is so much better than my old little step. I do have a suggestion for you. You might want to first try learning the new step tape routines without the step. Just do them on the floor. Then when you have the routine down and are used to Cathe's moves and cuing you can add the the step--just the top at first and then the risers as you build up your endurance and strength. I plan on doing it this way when my feet recover. Happy Stepping!
Heather

Hey, you'll never be the same! I did my first Cathe step tape three years ago, and I still can't get enough of them. My first step experience was Intense Moves, then Imax, if you can imagine. I didn't know any better, and I was stubborn.

Just Do It! :)

Nancy:

I am so glad you succumbed! I have been willing you to buy a step for a little while yet, but you made the decision yourself at the right time for you. You go girl!!!!!!

Something tells me that you might like the new Cardio with weights and Boot Camp from the new Intensity Series when they arrive. They could be just what you need to throw a spanner in the works of your body and jump start it to start building power and honing those muscles. (Plus you strike me as an athletic rather than dancy person... sorry if I'm wrong and these two look like they will not be space hoggers).

So, you can keep the solid base of strength you have built with PS series, and now start mixing things up a little. And it will certainly be more interesting for you!

Maybe in the New year you might consider getting the CTX series. It has these nifty 25-28 minute cardio sections that are perfect to slot in right before a PH session or one of the PS series videos. It could be that short sharp cardio burn sessions could shift your body up a gear, and lean the body to show all that muscle you have been building. (So this is in part my response to your earlier post of "WWP" ). Of these, All STep, Power Circuit and 10 10 10 are the most inspirational, boredom-busting workouts in the set.

Keep us (me) posted on your progress, I'd love to know how you do and how you change things up for you in the New year. Best wishes and I'm rooting for ya!

Clare

Nancy,
I am so glad for you. I think you will enjoy stepping.

Don't forget to do other forms of cardio too. I enjoy stepping so much that I have to force myself to do hi-lo and kickboxing sometimes. But they are good variants. If you are in a video groove, cross-training with those three can be enough for a year.

I am so glad I helped you decide. This forum helped me decide to start stepping 25 pounds ago. Cheers!
-Connie
