Took my first ever spin class today!

I will be back for more!! I was soaked in sweat, and feel great, except of course a little saddle sore, but I will be taking this class once a week.

The instructor is Cathe-like intense, without going overboard, she took the time to help me set up my bike for maximum effectiveness.

Had a great time!

Glad you enjoyed it! Spinning is not for sisses! That's for sure! I used to take a class weekly myself but then I fell out it, got back into it and fell out of it again. I'm currently not into it but some day I am sure the mood will strike me...:D

The spin classes at my gym are always packed!

I've been toying with giving spin a try for a long time. Maybe your post will motivate me to finally do it!

Glad you liked it!!! I've thought about it, but the though of a class wierds me out. I'm more of a solo exerciser. bummer for me :(

Excellent rear view

Good on ya...I first started taking spinning just this past summer, Jerry, and for a while there got results really quickly - mostly in the hind area ;)

Good for you Jerry! As a cyclist I spend lots of time "in the saddle" and in the winter I have a bike set up on a trainer in my basement. Do you have padded bike shorts? Those sure help. You can get baggy ones - like for mountain biking - if you prefer not to have your cute hiney showing for all to see. ;) You will get used to it and it will hurt less and less.

Jerry- Good for you! I'm a bit envious. I've had the idea rolling around in my head for a while, just haven't done anything about it. I know a local gym around here charges $15 for a drop in- maybe I need to check it out! You inspired me. :)

I love spinning. Currently, I go 2 times per week but am going to start Fitness Freak's Leg Blast rotation tomorrow and it only calls for 2 days of cardio. I'd like to fit in some running at least once a week so I don't lose what little I've gained in that department. So I may spin on Tues and run on Friday. Just don't know yet. I guess I could also just not run for a month and pick it back up full speed (no pun here) when STS arrives and I have 3 cardio days. But anyway, this was about YOU :p

It's a great workout, but then I'm a bit biased since I teach seven cycle classes a week and have been doing it for awhile (since 1997).

It usually takes about three classes before you're comfortable in the saddle and it doesn't hurt to take it sort of easy for the first few. It's one of those classes where it's easy to work too hard and end up getting a little nauseus (sp?).

(Bike shorts..and bike shoes are a good investment if you plan on doing it very often).

Great job Jerry. Isn't spinning awesome? I've only been into it now for about 2 mos, but I like it more all the time. My trainer told me not to be surprised if I didn't love it right out of the gate, and I'm glad she did, because that initial saddle soreness it tough. But I stuck with it and after about 3 weeks I was loving it. I also picked up a padded saddle cover which helps a lot. I was surprised at the number of men who are faithful to it - really cool to see.

But I do have a question for anyone who is more spinning advanced than I (sorry to hijack Jer) --- why do they always turn out the lights, or is that just in my area? Enjoy your rides Jer.

It's pretty common to dim the lights. It's supposed to help you get into your ride and focus on yourself because although it's a group fitness format, it's really you that does the work and if you can focus on your form, your intensity and your own percieved exertion level, your workout will be more effective.

I LOVE it when they turn the lights out. They have clear hanging lights on the wall and pump the music up!!! It's GREAT!!!

I have been spinning for about 4 months now (boy am I dizzy, ba da bamp), and I am up to three classes a week now. I have just fallen completely in love. I love the music, the focus, the sweat, the dim lights, the lack of impact, the whooping etc. I have even been thinking of getting certified, although I am much too shy to teach. DH has even been coming with me 1x a week and we just bought shoes. I even love my shoes!! Oh and did I mention that cycle socks are extremely cute. I want some with the little Margaritas on them. On a side note, I think spinning will be the perfect cardio to pair with STS.

SPINNING ROCKS!!!

It's great that you liked it the first time - I HATED it the first time, & swore I'd never do it again, mostly because of the seat. Now I'm addicted! It's one of those classes that lets you know that you're not in the great shape you thought you were - it's tough!

It's even better when you have an instructor (like ME!) who constantly challenges you with new routines (profiles) & entertains with cool music. I have enough routines for six weeks of classes 3X a week.
