I was getting very down on myself because I was working out 6 days a week at high intensity, eating pretty clean and not seeing any changes. I was also exhausted and stressed because of our impending move (waiting, waiting, waiting to find out WHEN!) So a couple weeks ago I decided to take my son and spend a week in the States w/ family while DH was doing business in South Africa. I didn't workout for 2 weeks, ate OK but not stellar (but not bingeing either) and just relaxed the week I was with family. When we got back I had a friend in London for business so spent the weekend and first part of the week with her. I didn't stress about not working out. Got back into my workouts this week and feel pretty good. Most importantly I see changes in my body, and so do other people! My weight hasn't changed much, but my belly is flatter, I am slimmer through my mid-section and upper body and face. I am so pleased!
I think I was pushing too hard, beating myself up, and not allowing myself proper rest and recovery. I also think that lowering my stress level and relaxing made a big difference. So now my plan is to workout 5 days a week: 2 days weights/3 days cardio/2 days rest (one day might be active rest like yoga or stretching, one day total rest.) I'm going to keep my workouts to no more than 1 hour. And I'm going to relax about how much I'm working out and just enjoy the process more.
I feel like I had one of Oprah's "lightbulb" moments!
